You can build a custom ship in No Man’s Sky in two different ways: use the Starship Fabricator to assemble a Fighter, Hauler, or Explorer from salvaged parts, or use the Corvette Workshop to build and furnish a larger Corvette from modules. Choose the system that matches the ship you want; their parts and assembly terminals are separate.
Choose which custom ship you want to build
| Build system | Ship types | What you use | Where you build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starship Fabricator | Fighter, Hauler, or Explorer | Salvaged starship components and a reactor | Starship Fabricator at a Space Station |
| Corvette Workshop | Corvette | Corvette modules, including structural pieces and interior furnishings | Corvette Workshop terminal aboard a Space Station |
Hello Games introduced the small-ship fabrication system in its Orbital Update and Corvettes in its Voyagers Update. The two processes are not interchangeable: small-ship parts come from dismantling starships, while Corvette construction uses Corvette modules.
Build a custom Fighter, Hauler, or Explorer
1. Salvage the ship components you want
At a Space Station, use the Starship Outfitting station to dismantle an unwanted starship. During salvage, you can target visual components such as wings or a thruster array. Keep the components you want to use in your new design.
2. Get a reactor for the ship
Starship reactors are sold by Space Station technology merchants. The reactor determines the fabricated ship’s class and stats, so choose one with the outcome you want. Prices and inventory requirements can vary; check the merchant’s current screen rather than relying on a fixed cost.

3. Assemble the ship at the Starship Fabricator
Use the Starship Fabricator at a Space Station, choose Fighter, Hauler, or Explorer, and assemble the ship from the components in your inventory. Hello Games describes the fabricator as a way to construct a custom ship from salvaged parts. The official instructions establish the broad process, but do not list every possible component combination or inventory requirement.
4. Choose the paint and finish
The fabricator lets you customize colors and paint styles. Hello Games says fabricated ships can use some tints and shades unavailable on galactic-standard ships, with matte and metallic finishes also available.

Fabricated ships differ from ships traditionally hunted or purchased in one trading detail: Hello Games says the latter carry an Authenticated Starship seal and receive a bonus to future trade-in value. The Orbital Update notes explain that distinction.
Build and furnish a Corvette
1. Collect Corvette modules
The Voyagers Update notes list several ways to find modules:

2. Open a Corvette Workshop
Visit the Corvette Workshop terminal aboard a Space Station. It combines collected modules into a pilotable, habitable Corvette. The terminal also has a shop for basic modules and a barter interface for advanced modules.
3. Shape the exterior
The catalogue includes structural and decorative parts such as hulls, wings, engines, windows, accessways, weapons, reactors, shield generators, connectors, and peripherals. Use the assembly camera to move freely while placing and painting hull pieces and connectors. Your exterior arrangement determines the Corvette’s silhouette and appearance.

- And now with added Cross-Save! No Man’s Sky now supports Cross-Play and Cross-Save between a huge number of platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox One and Series X/S, Game Pass, GOG, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, PlayStation VR 1 & 2 and PCVR.
4. Fit out the interior
Enter the Corvette to install furnishings and selected base decorations. Internal modules have no stated module-count limit, but construction requires resources. Adjacent habitation modules connect through doorways; stairways let you build across multiple levels. Some furnishings have practical functions, and technology upgrades linked to modules can improve stats.
The Voyagers notes describe examples including a Living Wall, Nutrition Unit, Refiner Unit, and Mission Radar. Corvettes support multiple passengers and multi-crew missions, so interior planning can serve both utility and crew space.

- Want a Fighter, Hauler, or Explorer assembled from ship parts? Salvage components with Starship Outfitting, get a reactor from a station technology merchant, and build at the Starship Fabricator.
- Want a larger ship with a custom interior? Gather Corvette modules and assemble the exterior and furnishings through a Corvette Workshop.
- Want to tune the small ship’s class and stats? Pay attention to the reactor, which determines both.
- Want a Corvette for function as well as appearance? Plan the exterior, room connections, furnishings, and any technology-linked upgrades together.
Neither official update provides a universal best-build ranking, a complete list of part combinations, or a single set of platform-specific button prompts. Exact costs and requirements should be checked in the relevant in-game terminal.
