You can enter a Japanese display name in Roblox through Account Settings > Account Info > Change Display Name—but Japanese-character support is currently in beta and Roblox says it is not available to every user. If the option rejects your text or the feature is missing, your account may not have access yet.
Change your Roblox display name to Japanese
- Sign in to Roblox.
- Open Account Settings. On the website, select the gear icon. In the mobile app, open More using the three-dot icon.
- Select Account Info.
- Select Change Display Name, shown with a pencil-and-paper icon. Some accounts may see the field labeled Name.
- Enter the Japanese text you want and save. Refresh the page to check whether the change appears.
Roblox Support describes Japanese-character support as a beta feature that is not enabled for all users. The public guidance does not specify which Japanese characters are accepted or how access is being rolled out, so follow any validation message shown for your account. Roblox Support’s display-name instructions are also available in Japanese.
What to know before you change it
- It is different from your username. Your display name is the name shown across Roblox and associated experiences; changing your username is a separate account process. See Roblox’s username-change guidance.
- Changing a display name is free, but limited. Roblox allows one change every seven days.
- Your name does not have to be unique. Other players may have the same display name.
- Names are filtered and subject to platform rules. Roblox says display names are continuously filtered and must comply with its Community Standards and terms. A name that violates those rules may be reset to your username.
These display-name rules and the beta availability note are described by Roblox Support.
