Canceling stops future subscription payments; benefits generally remain available until the end of the period you have already paid for. Payment methods and refund rules vary by country.
The key dates to distinguish are the next payment date and the date your current membership ends. The first helps you understand when another charge is scheduled; the second tells you how long benefits ordinarily remain after cancellation. Where to manage your PlayStation Plus subscription
PlayStation Plus is attached to a PlayStation account. Manage it while signed in to the account that holds the membership; changing payment details on a different account will not manage this subscription. You can use Account Management on the web or the subscription settings on a PS5 or PS4. Menu wording can differ by system software version and region.
- Web: Sign in to Account Management and open Subscription.
- PS5: Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions.
- PS4: Go to PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription. For plan management, the UK guide also lists Settings > Account Management > Account Information > PlayStation Subscriptions.
Once you select PlayStation Plus, use the available subscription controls to review the payment date, change the plan, or cancel. The account screen is also the right place to confirm what plan and payment frequency are currently active and what options are available to you.

If a membership does not appear, first check that you are signed in to the account that purchased or redeemed it. A payment method can be saved to an account without that account holding the subscription you want to change. Likewise, changing a card or adding wallet funds is not a way to manage a membership attached to another account.
Check your PlayStation Plus payment date
Look up the next payment date before changing a plan or deciding whether to cancel. It is the date associated with the next scheduled payment, not necessarily the date your current benefits end if you cancel. A payment date tells you when renewal is scheduled; a paid-through date tells you how long access is expected to continue after you stop renewal.
- On the web: Sign in to Account Management, open Subscription, and select PlayStation Plus. Review the payment date shown for the membership.
- On PS5: Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions, select PlayStation Plus, and review the subscription details.
- On PS4: Open PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription and review the details.
If a label or route does not match your console, check the equivalent subscription or account-management screen; the exact wording may vary with region and system version. Your account’s own subscription page is the place to confirm its date and available actions.
Before acting, note the date displayed and compare it with the status shown for the membership. If you are deciding whether to cancel, do not assume cancellation will immediately remove access: ordinarily, it prevents the next renewal while leaving benefits active through the period already paid for. If you are deciding whether to switch plans, review the amount and timing shown during the change flow as well as the next payment date.
Change your membership plan or payment frequency
Use the subscription’s Change Plan control to see the plans and payment frequencies currently offered to your account. Available options and the amount due depend on your market and membership details, so confirm the price and terms displayed in your account before accepting a change.
- Sign in to Account Management on the web, or open the subscription screen on your PS5 or PS4.
- Select PlayStation Plus and choose Change Plan or the equivalent plan-change option.
- Review the offered plan and payment frequency, along with any amount or timing shown for the change.
- Select the option you want and follow the confirmation steps on screen.
- Return to the subscription details to confirm the plan and payment frequency now associated with your membership.
Plan selection and payment frequency are related but distinct decisions: a plan describes the membership option, while frequency describes how often you agree to be charged for it. The choices displayed can depend on the country associated with the account and on the membership already in place. Do not rely on a price or offer seen in another region, on another account, or in an example when deciding what to accept.
PlayStation’s UK plan-change guidance explains an upgrade calculation using an illustrative example: a 12-month Essential subscription with six months remaining, and example prices of $79.99 and $159.99. Those figures illustrate proration on that page; they are not current prices to use for a purchase. The general practical point is to read the amount shown for your own account and the timing of the change before confirming it. The screen’s offer, not the illustrative example, is the relevant amount for your transaction.

Canceling the subscription is the control that stops future recurring subscription payments. Removing a saved payment method, changing wallet funding, or buying a wallet top-up is not a substitute for canceling. If your goal is to avoid a future renewal, use the cancellation option and verify that the membership status reflects the change.

PlayStation’s US PlayStation Plus Usage Terms describe the membership as an ongoing subscription, charged automatically at the then-current regular PlayStation Store price and at the frequency selected at purchase until canceled. The same US terms say that if the wallet does not have enough funds when payment is due, the default payment method on record may be charged to cover the subscription fee. A low wallet balance therefore should not be relied on to prevent renewal.
This matters if you are considering simply leaving the wallet empty: according to those US terms, a shortfall may be charged to the default payment method on file. The reliable control for stopping future subscription payments is cancellation, not removing a card, avoiding a wallet top-up, or waiting for the wallet balance to run out. This description of the shortfall rule is specific to the US terms; account and payment rules can differ in other markets.
If you change your mind before the next payment date, PlayStation says your account may offer Reactivate Subscription. Availability of that control depends on the membership’s status and account screen. If you see that option and want the membership to continue, review the displayed plan and payment information before selecting it. If you are unsure whether cancellation has taken effect, revisit the subscription screen rather than inferring status from whether a payment method is still saved.
What happens to benefits after cancellation
Cancellation generally prevents the next renewal rather than ending access immediately. Benefits continue through the period already purchased. Check the subscription page for the date through which your membership remains active. This is why cancelling and requesting a refund are different questions: cancellation ordinarily stops future renewal, while a refund request concerns a payment already made and is subject to the applicable local rules.
When the membership period ends, benefits that depend on an active PlayStation Plus membership are no longer available. That includes online multiplayer, online storage, and monthly games obtained through Plus. The distinction is between content whose access depends on the membership and content you own independently: redeemed Plus packs and avatars, and purchases made at a Plus discount, remain yours.
In practical terms, do not treat cancellation as an immediate deletion of every item associated with Plus. Benefits remain available during the paid period, but membership-dependent access changes when that period ends. Conversely, continuing to have a game or item in your library does not necessarily mean it remains playable or usable without an active membership: monthly games obtained through Plus are unavailable after the membership ends. Redeemed packs and avatars, and products bought at a Plus discount, are the exceptions identified in PlayStation’s cancellation guidance.
Payment methods and PlayStation Store wallet funds
Accepted payment methods, the ability to save them, and wallet-funding options depend on the country or region for your PlayStation account. PlayStation Store support describes adding funds online and saving supported methods; eligible payment information may also be saved when you add a payment method while shopping. Check local Store guidance and the options displayed in your account rather than assuming a payment method available in one country is available everywhere.

A PlayStation Store wallet top-up or gift card can be a way to add funds where regional redemption and payment rules allow it. Adding wallet funds does not turn off auto-renewal. If your goal is to avoid another subscription payment, cancel through the subscription control and verify the status in your account.
Funding and subscription management solve different problems. A top-up adds money to the wallet; it does not change the selected plan or payment frequency, and it does not cancel the recurring subscription. Similarly, having a saved payment method can support a payment but does not itself show whether a renewal is scheduled. For the amount, date, plan, and cancellation state, rely on the PlayStation Plus subscription page.
Refunds depend on your region and circumstances
Refund eligibility and process are governed by the rules for your market. The linked PlayStation refund guidance described in the account information is US-specific, so it should not be treated as a worldwide guarantee. Consult the PlayStation refund page for your region and the terms that apply to your purchase.

Under the US guidance, an eligible subscription refund may be reduced to account for use of the service. Examples include playing online, downloading monthly games, or using cloud storage. The guide also says a free-trial period counts toward the 14-day cancellation period in its example. These details are specific to that US guidance; do not assume the same eligibility or calculation applies in another country.
If you have already been charged and want to avoid another charge, consider the two steps separately: use the subscription cancellation control to stop future renewal, then consult the local refund instructions about the payment already taken. Cancelling alone is not a promise that a past charge will be refunded. Likewise, an eligible refund may be calculated with service use in mind under the US guidance; it is not necessarily the same as a full refund. The local PlayStation support page is the authority for the applicable request process and conditions.
Choose the right action for your goal
| Your goal | Where to go | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Find the next scheduled payment | Account Management > Subscription, or the console’s subscription settings | The payment date shown for PlayStation Plus |
| Switch plan or payment frequency | Select PlayStation Plus and choose Change Plan or its equivalent | The available offer, frequency, amount, and change timing for your account |
| Stop future renewal | Select Cancel Subscription in the subscription screen | The updated subscription status and the date benefits end |
| Ask about a charge or refund | Use the PlayStation support and refund guidance for your region | Local eligibility rules and whether service use affects the refund |
The route is similar across web, PS5, and PS4, but the labels differ. The task you need to complete determines the control: payment date to check timing, Change Plan to select another offer, Cancel Subscription to stop future renewals, and regional support instructions for refund questions. Do not substitute one action for another. For example, changing payment information does not cancel a subscription, and cancelling does not itself settle whether an earlier payment can be refunded.
Common questions and mistakes to avoid
Does cancelling PlayStation Plus end benefits right away? Ordinarily, no. PlayStation says benefits continue until the end of the period already paid for. Check the account’s subscription details for the relevant end date.

Will removing my card stop auto-renewal? Do not rely on it. Use Cancel Subscription to stop future recurring subscription payments. Payment and wallet rules vary by region, and the US terms say a default payment method may be charged if the wallet lacks funds.

Is the next payment date the same as the date benefits end? Not necessarily. The payment date identifies the next scheduled payment. If you cancel, benefits generally continue to the end of the already-purchased period; verify the date shown for your membership.
Can I change the plan or how often I pay? Open PlayStation Plus in Account Management or console subscription settings and select Change Plan. The available plan, frequency, amount, and timing are account- and region-dependent. Review the offer before confirming.
What if the wallet does not have enough money for renewal? A low balance is not a dependable way to stop renewal. PlayStation’s US terms say that when wallet funds are short, the default payment method on record may be charged to cover the subscription fee. Cancel the subscription if you want to stop future payments.
Will I keep every game or benefit after the membership ends? No. Monthly games obtained through Plus and other membership-dependent benefits, including online multiplayer and online storage, are unavailable once the membership ends. Redeemed Plus packs and avatars, and purchases made at a Plus discount, remain yours.
Can I get a refund after cancelling? Cancellation stops future renewal; it does not guarantee a refund of a payment already made. Refund eligibility and calculations depend on your region. The US PlayStation guidance says an eligible subscription refund may be reduced based on use, including online play, monthly-game downloads, or cloud-storage use.
Why can’t I see the subscription controls? Confirm that you are signed in to the PlayStation account holding the membership, then check the subscription or account-management screen for your device. Menus can vary by region and system version. If the subscription still is not listed, use PlayStation support for your region rather than changing a payment method on a possibly different account.
Can I reactivate after cancelling? PlayStation says the account may offer Reactivate Subscription before the next payment date. The option depends on membership status; check your account screen for whether it is available.

Generally, no. Cancellation stops future renewal, while benefits continue until the end of the period already paid for. Check your subscription details for the date your membership remains active through.
Will removing a payment method stop auto-renewal?
Do not rely on removing a saved method. Use Cancel Subscription in your account’s subscription settings to stop future subscription payments. Payment rules vary by region; the US terms say a default payment method may cover a wallet shortfall.
What happens to monthly games when my membership ends?

Can I get a refund if I cancel?
Cancellation stops future renewal but does not guarantee a refund for a payment already made. Check PlayStation’s refund guidance for your region. US guidance says an eligible subscription refund may be reduced to reflect use.
What if my PlayStation wallet does not have enough funds at renewal?
A low balance may not prevent a charge. PlayStation’s US terms say the default payment method on record may be charged to cover a subscription shortfall. Cancel the subscription if you want to stop future renewals.
The Bottom Line
Use the PlayStation account’s Subscription screen to check the next payment date, change the plan or payment frequency, or cancel. Cancellation—not removing a payment method or leaving the wallet empty—is the control for stopping future renewal. Benefits generally continue until the period already paid for ends, while payment options and refund rules depend on your region.
