Nintendo Music lets you download music in its mobile app for offline listening, but Nintendo’s published support instructions do not explain how to remove downloads or show how much space they use. The web version does not offer downloads or offline playback. Nintendo Switch microSD storage is for console software, not phone app downloads.
How downloads and offline listening work
| Access method | Download music | Listen offline |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Music mobile app | Yes; download music in advance | Yes, using music downloaded in advance |
| Nintendo Music web version | No | No |
Nintendo confirms this distinction in its offline listening FAQ, updated June 2, 2026. The guidance reviewed does not state how much phone storage downloads use.
How to remove downloads or free space
Nintendo’s reviewed support articles do not provide a verified sequence for deleting downloaded tracks or reclaiming their space. They also do not identify deleting app data as the intended solution, so avoid assuming that clearing data is equivalent to removing downloads.
- For Nintendo’s current instructions, contact Nintendo Music Support.
- To check how much space the app uses, consult your phone’s current app-storage settings. Those settings can report app storage, but Nintendo’s documentation does not establish them as a download-management workflow.
Why a Nintendo Switch microSD card will not manage phone downloads
Nintendo documents microSD storage for downloadable software on Nintendo Switch. That documentation concerns console software, not Nintendo Music downloads on a mobile device; it does not show that a Switch card can expand phone storage or manage the app’s downloads. See Nintendo’s guide to managing or deleting downloadable software on Nintendo Switch.

If downloaded music stops playing offline
Nintendo says tracks can expire after an extended time offline. For support codes 9009-2201 or 9010-2101, Nintendo recommends reconnecting to the internet and leaving the app running for about 30 minutes. On iOS, keep the app in the foreground during that time. The guidance is in Nintendo’s support-code troubleshooting article, dated September 2, 2026.
Nintendo also reports a possible Android issue after app version 1.7 in which downloaded tracks may fail to play offline, including for users who reconnect regularly. The support article does not establish a fix beyond its reconnection advice for the listed error codes.
