For your first runs, focus on learning the raid loop—not filling every inventory slot. Deploy with gear you can afford to risk, move deliberately, take only worthwhile fights, and leave when your haul is worth protecting.
What to expect in an ARC Raiders raid
The official ARC Raiders site describes a multiplayer extraction adventure set on a surface threatened by machines and other Raiders. The key distinction from a simple scavenging mission is that loot is not secure just because you picked it up: you need to survive long enough to extract. The game is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, with solo and squad play.
A useful mental model is four linked decisions: deploy, search, stay alert, and extract. Every extra stop may improve your haul, but it also gives threats more time to find you and increases what you stand to lose.
How to approach your first raid
1. Deploy with a manageable loadout
If the live game offers a Free Loadout, it can be a lower-stakes way to practice routes and extraction timing before risking gear from your stash. A beginner guide updated June 17, 2026 describes it as including a main weapon and ammunition, bandages, a shield recharger, and utility items. Loadout contents can change with patches, so check the current in-game description rather than assuming those items are guaranteed.

- Plus: Character Cosmetic, Finger Gun Rapid Fire Emote, Cowboy Scrappy Body Type and Skin, 2 400 Raider Tokens.
2. Search with a purpose
Look for items that matter to your current goals instead of looting every container you pass. The beginner guide puts quest items and rare components ahead of common crafting materials, and recommends using the Safe Pocket for valuable finds before risky encounters. Inventory and Safe Pocket rules can change, so confirm what the current game allows.
3. Stay alert to machines and Raiders
Listen and watch for signs of nearby activity before crossing exposed ground or committing to a fight. You are managing both ARC threats and other players; either can make a route or a loot stop dangerous.

4. Extract before the risk outweighs the haul
Once you have something worth keeping, consider heading toward an extraction rather than making one more stop by default. Scout the approach and avoid treating a full backpack as a success until you have made it out.
Move efficiently without exhausting yourself
Movement choices affect how quickly you travel and how much stamina you have when you need it. The June 17, 2026 beginner guide advises holstering while traveling to move faster, walking briefly to recover stamina rather than sprinting continuously, and keeping carried weight in mind because a heavier load can slow movement and drain stamina faster. Controls and tuning may vary by game build, so use the live control settings and descriptions as the authority.
Rank #3
- Save sprinting for moments when speed matters; continuous sprinting can leave you with less stamina when you need to reposition.
- Give yourself a moment to recover stamina during safer stretches instead of arriving at a dangerous crossing already depleted.
- Be selective about what you carry, especially if you expect a long route back to extraction.
Use sound as information
Audio can provide clues about what other players are doing nearby. The beginner guide identifies footsteps, gunfire, container looting, shield recharging, and abilities as sounds that may reveal activity; sprinting and looting can also give away your position. Pause to listen before entering a contested area, and avoid making noise when you do not need to.
Headphones or good stereo speakers may help you distinguish those cues, but they are optional. Use equipment you already have that lets you hear the game clearly; the available source does not establish a particular headset as necessary or superior.

- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
Choose fights instead of accepting them
A fight costs more than ammunition. It can consume health and time, draw attention, and put whatever you are carrying at risk. If there is no meaningful reason to engage, avoid the encounter and keep moving.
- Use cover and favorable positions instead of challenging an opponent in open ground.
- Consider whether the likely reward justifies the ammunition, health, time, and attention the fight may cost.
- If a machine or player blocks your route, decide whether going around is safer than forcing the encounter.
Solo or squad: which is better for a beginner?
Neither option is universally best. Squads can provide backup, revive opportunities, and help covering an extraction, but require coordination. Solo play removes that coordination burden and gives you room to practice at your own pace, though you will not have teammates to help if a fight goes badly. The third-party beginner guide recommends squads for support and solo Free Loadout runs for learning maps; treat that as guidance rather than a rule.

Common first-raid mistakes to avoid
- Looting without a goal: Every extra stop can add risk. Prioritize items tied to quests or valuable components over routine materials.
- Sprinting everywhere: Pace movement so stamina is available when you need to react.
- Taking every fight: Disengage when the potential reward does not justify the exposure and resources.
- Waiting too long to extract: A modest haul that makes it out is more useful than a larger one lost before extraction.
- Assuming a tip or loadout is permanent: Check current in-game controls, loadout contents, and inventory descriptions because patches can change mechanics.
