To get more consistent in The First Berserker: Khazan, learn each boss’s patterns and weaknesses, then adapt your skills, gear, and difficulty to the encounter. The game lets you reset skills at any time and from anywhere, so a failed attempt can give you information to use in your next build—not just a reason to grind.
How to get better at boss fights
- Watch before you optimize. Bosses have distinct attack patterns, weaknesses, and abilities. Use early attempts to notice which attacks repeat and where the boss leaves openings. The official PlayStation game page frames success around timing, understanding the combat system, and adapting tactics; it does not prescribe one strategy for every opponent.
- Choose one thing to change. After a defeat, identify what caused the most trouble—missed damage opportunities, difficulty staying alive, or another encounter-specific problem. Adjust a skill or equipment choice to address that issue, then see whether the next attempt improves.
- Keep the goal modest. Learning an attack pattern or reaching a later phase is useful progress, even if you do not win that attempt. Avoid changing several parts of your build at once: if the result improves, you will have a clearer idea why.
Adapt your skills to the fight
Skills purchased with skill points can be reset and respecced at any time and from anywhere, according to the official PlayStation page. That flexibility makes experimentation practical: you can emphasize damage when you are finding reliable openings, or invest in survivability when staying in the fight long enough to learn is the priority.

There is no documented universally optimal skill setup. Treat a build as a response to a specific obstacle, not a permanent commitment. If a change does not help, respec again rather than assuming you need to grind for a different character.

Choose gear for its effects, not just its rarity
Complete gear sets provide their own attributes and skills, while mixing pieces lets you shape a personalized loadout. Compare what a set contributes with what the current boss is demanding: a full-set effect may suit your approach, while mixed pieces may better address a particular weakness. The official game page supports these gear options but does not establish one best set or a universal rarity rule.
#1 Best Overall
- YOU MUST PREVAIL Survive the relentless pursuit of imperial forces, navigate conspiracies aimed at killing Khazan, and overcome the harsh environments you encounter
- YOU MUST REMEMBER You were once a hero in the history of Arad, a once-in-a-lifetime figure. Recall the forgotten skills of battle learned through brutal torture and slay the enemies who defame and stand against you
- YOU MUST RECLAIM Find all potential enemies, reclaim everything that was taken from you, seek revenge, and regain the honor and glory that rightfully belong to you
- Pre order The First Berserker: Khazan and receive the Fallen Star Armor Set (While Supplies Last. Item is not guaranteed.)
Use difficulty as a learning aid
If the pressure of an encounter is stopping you from learning its patterns, a lower difficulty can give you more room to observe and practice. A developer note dated March 27, 2025, records Easy Mode changes that reduce incoming health and stamina damage and increase damage dealt. It also records a Greatsword Brutal Attack damage increase because players had found it difficult to capitalize on exhausted enemies early on. These are changes documented in that launch note, not a complete account of every later balance adjustment.
Difficulty design has evolved: creative director Junho Lee’s August 2024 interview described the pre-release intent to integrate difficulty into the content rather than rely simply on system options. That interview predates the launch balance note, so it should not be treated as a definitive description of the current menu or balance.
Recover progression after a defeat
After falling in battle, return to the defeat location to recover lost Lacrima and regain experience, as described on the official PlayStation page. The practical loop is to recover what was left behind, use what you learned about the encounter, and try again. This guidance does not establish every death or checkpoint rule, so do not assume it covers every possible failure state.

Practice in the post-game boss rushes
After beating the game and seeing the ending, the Ultimate Challenge update adds two ways to revisit boss combat. These are post-game modes, rather than a substitute for adapting to a first-time story encounter.
Great General’s Crucible
This mode groups bosses by theme and assigns designated character specs, including gear, level, and skills. It provides structured fights under a defined setup rather than asking you to bring any build you like. The May 2025 update announcement describes the format.
Berserker’s Bloodshed
This mode challenges you to fight all 16 bosses consecutively, with progression awarded across the run. It is a longer test of consistency than practicing one boss in isolation. The 16-boss figure is the format stated on the official PlayStation page.
Rank #3
- Reactive Turn-based Combat: Craft unique builds for your Expeditioners that fit your playstyle via gear, stats, skills, and &character synergies

- With only one year left to live, join Gustave, Maelle, & fellow Expeditioners as they embark on a desperate quest to break Paintress’ cycle of death
- Explore an enchanting realm populated by adversaries; Wander through breathtaking landscapes, from Island of Visages to the Forgotten Battlefield
- Experience the debut game from Sandfall Interactive, fully realized in Unreal Engine 5 with stunning graphics and a heartbreaking soundtrack
The May 2025 announcement says both modes unlock after the ending. For current details, see the Ultimate Challenge update announcement and the official PlayStation game page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The available official descriptions support a strategy built around studying distinct bosses, adapting skills and gear, and choosing difficulty to fit your learning goal. They do not establish exact button inputs, frame counts, stamina costs, parry windows, or a single best weapon or build. Weapon choice and defensive timing should therefore be learned from the game itself rather than from unsupported universal prescriptions.
For version-sensitive tips, check their date. The March 27, 2025 launch note documents balance changes after early access, including the Greatsword Brutal Attack adjustment and Easy Mode changes. An older guide may describe an earlier balance state.
