Use YouTube’s Live Control Room to check a cloud-hosted stream’s status and live analytics. Your PC can be off because the cloud service—not your home computer—must be running the encoder and sending the feed to YouTube. A remote-control app for OBS is different: it can show or control OBS on a running computer, but it cannot keep that computer’s encoder working after the computer is shut down.
Check stream health in YouTube Live Control Room
Open YouTube Studio and go to the stream’s Live Control Room. During a livestream, YouTube displays stream status and analytics there. If YouTube reports an error, the status can include an error message and instructions to address it. Available real-time metrics include concurrent viewers, duration, likes, chat rate, views, and average view duration. YouTube’s live-streaming analytics guidance describes these checks.
Use stream status to see whether YouTube is reporting a problem with the incoming stream. Use analytics to understand activity and engagement; metrics such as concurrent viewers or chat rate are not, by themselves, proof that the encoder is healthy. The cited YouTube guidance describes dashboard information, not proactive phone alerts, so do not assume YouTube will notify your phone if the stream fails.
What has to keep running while your PC is off
A livestream needs an encoder somewhere to send video to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says to enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder, start the encoder, and manage the event through Live Control Room. If the encoder is running on your home PC, shutting that PC down stops it from sending the feed. For the broadcast to continue, the encoding workload must instead run on a cloud-hosted service or another machine that remains on. Distinguish cloud hosting from remote OBS control
Cloud-hosted encoder
With cloud hosting, the service runs the streaming workload on its own infrastructure and sends the feed to YouTube. You can then check YouTube’s Live Control Room from a separate device while your PC is off. Capabilities vary: confirm that a service supports your feed format, YouTube output, remote controls, and the status or notifications you need. A YouTube Help result identifies Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 livestreaming of prerecorded videos, but that listing does not establish its current plans, reliability, or availability. Remote control of local OBS
A phone app or dashboard that controls OBS remotely is useful only while the computer running OBS is on and connected. Control OBS documentation describes remote control and access to stream statistics such as bitrate and dropped frames; that is monitoring a running local setup, not moving its encoder to the cloud. Cloud-OBS services
Some providers describe browser-based scene editing and server-hosted OBS workflows. For example, FizzyPeak says its Cloud-OBS setup can run from its server while the user’s PC is off for its stated mobile-streaming use case. That is the provider’s description, not independent performance testing; check that the specific service supports your intended production and YouTube destination. FizzyPeak help.
Set up a reliable monitoring routine
- Confirm where the encoder runs. Check that the service is actually hosting and running the encoder, rather than merely providing a cloud-accessible control panel for OBS on your PC.
- Confirm the feed and destination. Verify support for your content type—such as prerecorded looping video or a live camera—and for output to YouTube.
- Open the event in Live Control Room. Check stream status for an error and follow any instructions YouTube provides. Review the live metrics relevant to your audience and stream.
- Check what happens after a failure. Before relying on a service, establish whether it provides failure notifications, remote restart controls, or automatic recovery. Do not infer those features from the fact that encoding is cloud-hosted.
- Check the service’s current terms. Confirm present-day pricing, availability, and suitability directly with the provider; capabilities and plans can change.
YouTube’s encoder instructions describe starting the encoder and managing the stream through Live Control Room, while its live analytics guidance documents the status and metrics available during a broadcast. They do not establish that every cloud provider offers phone alerts, a particular restart workflow, or a reliability guarantee.
