Use the included PlayStation Link USB adapter for a PS5 or compatible Windows PC/Mac. Use Bluetooth pairing from your phone’s Bluetooth settings for mobile audio. The adapter is paired with the headset out of the box, while phone pairing requires holding the headset’s PS Link button for about eight seconds.
Choose the right connection method
PULSE Elite does not use one universal pairing procedure for every device. PlayStation’s instructions separate the connection paths by device type: PS5 and compatible computers use PlayStation Link through the supplied USB adapter, while compatible phones use Bluetooth.

| Device | Connection | What you need | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | PlayStation Link | Included PS Link USB adapter and an available USB-A port | Do not set it up as ordinary Bluetooth audio. |
| Compatible Windows PC or Mac | PlayStation Link | Included adapter, USB-A port and USB audio output | PlayStation’s computer instructions specify the adapter rather than Bluetooth. |
| Compatible phone | Bluetooth | A phone with Bluetooth enabled | Not every Bluetooth device is guaranteed to work with the headset. |
For the PS5 and computer procedures, use the PlayStation Accessories support instructions. Phone pairing, device switching and simultaneous-audio behavior are documented in PlayStation’s PULSE Elite connection guide.

Identify which wireless path you need before pressing buttons. A PS5 or supported computer needs the small PlayStation Link USB adapter physically connected to a USB-A port. A phone needs its Bluetooth settings open and ready to display a new device. The included adapter is already paired with the headset, so the first PS5 or computer setup is mainly a matter of inserting the adapter and turning on the headset.

Do not use the approximately eight-second button hold for every startup. A normal press turns the headset on and makes it search for its last connected device. The longer hold is specifically for entering Bluetooth pairing mode on a phone. A roughly two-second hold has a different purpose: it leaves the current connection and searches for another device that was paired previously.
Pair PULSE Elite with a PS5
The PS5 connection uses PlayStation Link, Sony’s wireless link between the console and the headset. The USB adapter supplied with the headset is already paired to it, so there is no separate pairing menu to complete on the console.
- Turn on the PS5 and wait for the console to finish starting.
- Insert the included PlayStation Link USB adapter into a USB-A port on the PS5.
- Press the PS Link button on the headset to turn it on.
- Wait while the headset searches for the adapter. The indicator slowly blinks blue during the search and becomes solid once a connection is established. PlayStation support pages in different regions describe the connected-state color differently, so treat the change from a slow blink to a solid indicator as the useful confirmation rather than relying on one exact color.
Once connected, the PS5 should route game and chat audio through the headset according to the console’s active audio settings. If the headset was previously used with another PS Link device, the headset searches for its last connected device when switched on; the switching procedure below explains how to direct it back to the PS5.
If the PS5 does not connect
- Confirm that the adapter is fully inserted in a USB-A port, not left loose or connected through a hub that is not providing a stable connection.
- Turn the headset off and press the PS Link button again after the adapter is in place.
- Watch the indicator: a slow blink means the headset is still searching, while a solid indicator means it has connected.
- If the headset was last used with a computer or another PS Link adapter, hold the PS Link button for about two seconds and release it to begin searching for a previously paired PS Link device.
Pair PULSE Elite with a Windows PC or Mac
For a compatible Windows PC or Mac, PlayStation specifies the PS Link USB adapter and a computer capable of USB audio output. The computer does not follow the phone-style Bluetooth procedure in the official setup instructions.
- Make sure the computer is running and supports USB audio output.
- Insert the included PS Link USB adapter into a USB-A port.
- Press the PS Link button on the headset.
- Wait for the headset and adapter to connect. The adapter is paired with the headset from the box, so a new pairing operation is normally unnecessary.
- In the computer’s sound controls, select the PULSE Elite/PlayStation Link audio device if the operating system does not select it automatically.
PlayStation’s published PC/Mac procedure is adapter-based. If you are asking whether PULSE Elite connects to a PC with Bluetooth, do not assume that the phone process applies: the cited computer instructions call for the PS Link adapter. Bluetooth support for a particular computer configuration is not established by those instructions.
Computer connection checks
- Use a direct USB-A port and verify that the operating system detects a USB audio device after the adapter is inserted.
- Check the selected output in the operating system and in the game or voice-chat application; a connection indicator alone does not guarantee that an application has switched its output.
- If the headset was last connected to a PS5, use the two-second PS Link-button switching action after inserting the adapter in the computer.
- For a laptop or desktop with only another connector type, use a setup that provides the USB-A connection required by the included adapter; the official steps specifically name a USB-A port.
Pair PULSE Elite with a phone over Bluetooth
Phone pairing is performed in the phone’s Bluetooth settings. The headset must be placed in Bluetooth pairing mode; simply turning it on is not enough.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the PS Link button on the headset to turn it on.
- Press and hold the PS Link button until the indicator quickly blinks blue. PlayStation specifies an approximately eight-second hold for this pairing mode.
- In the phone’s list of available Bluetooth devices, select PULSE Elite.
- Wait for the indicator to become solid, which signals that the Bluetooth connection has been made.
Pairing mode remains available for up to 30 seconds. If the phone does not complete the connection in that period, the headset turns off and you must start pairing mode again with another approximately eight-second hold.
When the phone cannot find “PULSE Elite”
- Return to the Bluetooth device list and make sure Bluetooth scanning is active.
- Start the headset’s pairing mode again by holding the PS Link button for about eight seconds, stopping when the indicator changes to a quick blue blink.
- Select PULSE Elite promptly; waiting beyond the roughly 30-second pairing window causes the headset to switch off.
- If another nearby phone is already connected, disconnect it or move it out of range before trying again.
- Remember that Sony cautions that not all Bluetooth devices are compatible with the headset.
Understand saved devices and automatic reconnection
After the first successful connections, the headset remembers devices. PlayStation says it automatically searches for the last connected device when you turn it on. This behavior explains why it may appear not to be responding to a different device: it is attempting the most recent connection first.
The last-device rule is separate from the number of devices that can be remembered. PULSE Elite can pair with up to ten Bluetooth devices, but remembering ten does not mean ten can stream at once. The headset still permits only one Bluetooth audio connection and one PS Link listening connection at a time.
Switch to another saved PS Link or Bluetooth device
- Turn on the device you want to use and make sure its adapter or Bluetooth settings are ready.
- On the headset, hold the PS Link button for about two seconds, then release it.
- The current connection is deactivated and the headset begins initiating a connection to a previously paired PS Link or Bluetooth device.
- Wait for the target device to complete the connection before starting audio.
For switching between a PS5 and a Windows PC/Mac, insert a PS Link adapter in the destination device first. When an on-screen connection prompt appears, follow it. Only one PS Link connection can be listened to at a time, so the headset cannot play audio from two PS Link adapters simultaneously.

Examples of switching
To move from a PS5 to a computer, plug the adapter into the computer before using the two-second hold. To move back, put the adapter in the PS5 and repeat the action. If the phone was the last device used, a normal power-on may look for that phone first; having the desired adapter inserted or the phone’s Bluetooth screen ready makes the next search easier to complete.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Switching is not the same as simultaneous audio. The two-second action changes which saved device the headset seeks. Simultaneous use requires an established Bluetooth connection and an established PS Link connection; it does not allow two PS Link sources to play together.
Use phone Bluetooth and PS Link audio together
Once a phone has been paired over Bluetooth, PULSE Elite can search for a paired PS Link device and play Bluetooth and PS Link audio simultaneously. This is useful when you want phone audio alongside a PS5 or computer connection, but the limits are specific:
- Only one Bluetooth device can be connected and playing at a time, even though the headset can be paired with up to ten Bluetooth devices.
- Only one PS Link connection can be active for listening at a time.
- When both sources are playing, the headset’s volume button controls PS Link audio.
- Adjust Bluetooth audio volume on the phone itself.
Pairing a phone does not replace the PS Link pairing stored for your console or computer. It adds a Bluetooth device that can be selected or used alongside the active PS Link connection.
Indicator behavior and button timing
| Action | How to perform it | Expected behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Turn on for a normal connection | Press the PS Link button. | The headset searches for its last connected device. |
| Enter Bluetooth pairing mode | With the headset on, hold the PS Link button for approximately eight seconds. | The indicator quickly blinks blue; select “PULSE Elite” on the phone. |
| Switch among saved devices | Hold the PS Link button for about two seconds, then release. | The current connection is dropped and a previously paired PS Link or Bluetooth device is sought. |
| Confirm a connection | Watch the indicator. | A slow blink indicates searching; a solid indicator indicates connection. Exact solid-state color descriptions vary by regional support page. |
These timings are easy to confuse: a quick press is startup, about two seconds is device switching, and about eight seconds is Bluetooth discovery. If the headset powers off while pairing a phone, the up-to-30-second discovery period has expired; repeat the eight-second hold rather than continuing to select an old entry.
Common problems and practical fixes
The headset connects, but there is no game sound
Check the active output device on the PS5 or computer. A successful wireless link only establishes the connection; the console, operating system or game can still be configured to send audio elsewhere. On a computer, confirm that USB audio output is enabled and that the PULSE Elite/PlayStation Link device is selected for playback.
The phone shows PULSE Elite but pairing fails
Restart Bluetooth pairing mode rather than repeatedly tapping an expired entry. Hold the PS Link button until the indicator quickly blinks blue, then choose PULSE Elite within the up-to-30-second window. If the headset powers off before selection, repeat the hold.
The headset keeps returning to the wrong device
This is consistent with the automatic last-device behavior. Turn on the desired PS5, computer or phone first, prepare its adapter or Bluetooth screen, and use the two-second hold to initiate a search for a previously paired device. For PS5-to-PC changes, put the adapter in the destination computer before switching.
Bluetooth volume seems inconsistent when both sources are active
In simultaneous Bluetooth and PS Link use, the headset volume button adjusts PS Link audio. Change the phone’s volume with the phone’s own controls to raise or lower its Bluetooth stream.

You are expecting two PS Link sources at once
PULSE Elite can remember multiple paired devices, but it can play from only one PS Link connection at a time. Use the two-second switching action to move between saved adapters instead of expecting both a PS5 and computer to remain active simultaneously.

The adapter is missing
The standard PS5 and compatible computer procedure depends on the included PS Link USB adapter. These instructions do not establish a replacement-adapter process, and the phone method is not a substitute for the adapter-based PS5 setup. If you do not have the included adapter, verify your hardware and consult PlayStation Support rather than treating the PS5 as a regular Bluetooth audio device.
Quick setup checklist
- For a PS5 or compatible Windows PC/Mac, locate the included PS Link USB adapter and use a USB-A port.
- For a phone, open Bluetooth settings and be prepared to select PULSE Elite.
- Use a normal press of the PS Link button to turn the headset on.
- Use an approximately eight-second hold only when entering phone Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Use an approximately two-second hold when moving to a previously paired PS Link or Bluetooth device.
- Interpret a slow indicator blink as searching and a solid indicator as connected, without relying on one universal solid-state color.
- Remember the limits: up to ten saved Bluetooth devices, one active Bluetooth audio connection, and one active PS Link listening connection.
Which procedure should you use?
Choose the PS Link adapter whenever the destination is a PS5 or the compatible Windows PC/Mac setup described by PlayStation. Choose Bluetooth from the phone’s settings for mobile use. Once both types of devices are saved, the headset’s normal startup preference is the last connected device, while the two-second button hold provides a controlled way to move among previously paired devices.
