If paste puts an object in the wrong place, the fix depends on what you copied. Roblox Studio has separate workflows for Explorer objects, Script Editor text, terrain, and entire experiences; their shortcuts and destinations are not interchangeable.
Choose the paste workflow that matches what you copied

Paste objects in Explorer
Explorer is the hierarchical list of instances in an experience; Workspace holds visible 3D content such as Parts. The paste command you choose determines where the copied instances go. Roblox Creator Hub documents these Explorer shortcuts and options in its Explorer guide.

Paste to Workspace
Select the intended instance or instances in Explorer, then press Ctrl+V on Windows or ⌘V on Mac. This pastes the clipboard contents into the top-level Workspace branch.
Paste under a selected parent
To place the copied instance inside another selected object, select that parent in Explorer and press Ctrl+Shift+V on Windows or ⌘Shift+V on Mac. This is useful when nesting content; Creator Hub gives applying the same Texture to multiple Parts as an example.

Duplicate in the same branch
To make a copy beside the selected instance in its current branch, use Ctrl+D on Windows or ⌘D on Mac. This is different from pasting into a chosen parent.
Keep a 3D object at its original position
To preserve a copied 3D object’s original CFrame position, right-click the intended target parent in Explorer and choose Paste Options > Paste Into At Original Location. Ordinary paste destination and original-position paste are distinct choices.

Explorer copy and paste deep-copy selected objects and their children, according to Roblox Creator Hub. If the result appears in the wrong hierarchy branch, undo and repeat with the paste command that matches your intended parent.

Click in the Script Editor where the text should go, then press Ctrl+V on Windows or ⌘V on Mac. These are standard text-editing shortcuts, as listed in the Roblox Creator Hub Script Editor documentation. If focus is in Explorer or another Studio panel instead, the same shortcut may paste or act there rather than insert code in the editor.

Copy and paste terrain
- Open the Terrain Editor and activate its Select tool.
- Make sure no object is selected in Explorer, then select the terrain region you want to copy.
- Press Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+V on Windows, or ⌘C and then ⌘V on Mac.
- After pasting, use the Transform tool to move or adjust the new terrain region.
Terrain copy and paste requires the Select tool and no Explorer object selected; Roblox Creator Hub describes the workflow in its Terrain Editor guide.

Copying a project is not a clipboard operation. For an experience you own, open it in Studio and choose File > Save As to save a local backup, or File > Publish to Roblox As to upload a copy. Roblox Support documents these options in How to Copy an Experience.

For another creator’s experience, the About tab must show “This experience’s source can be copied.” Roblox Support advises asking the creator’s permission before publishing a copied experience. If that notice is absent, the documented copy option is not available for that experience.
