For other text-entry tasks, the Xbox mobile app can provide a phone or tablet keyboard, but Microsoft does not document a console-wide paste function that works in every game, app, or system field.
How to paste text in Xbox Edge
Microsoft says the controller can be used to copy and paste URLs, game titles, and other text while browsing in Edge on Xbox Series S and Series X. The guidance does not give a specific button sequence, so the exact controls should not be assumed. Use the copy and paste options presented by Edge for the selected text or field.
Microsoft’s Edge guide, published March 12, 2024, also describes Edge as included on Series S and X consoles.
How to enter text from your phone or tablet
- Open the Xbox mobile app on your phone or tablet and connect it to your console as needed.
- When prompted to enter text for a supported task, use the app’s onscreen keyboard.
- Enter the message, game search, or code. These are the text-entry uses described on the Xbox mobile app page.
This is a way to type from a mobile device, not a promise that the phone’s clipboard can paste into any Xbox game or system field.

Can you use a USB keyboard?
Microsoft documents connecting a keyboard and mouse to an Xbox USB port for browsing. A keyboard can be more convenient for frequent typing in Edge, but that guidance does not establish that every game or app accepts keyboard input. Check the particular game or app if you need to type outside the browser.
Why paste may not work everywhere
The documented options depend on where the text is going. Microsoft describes controller copy and paste in Edge and mobile-app keyboard entry for selected tasks; it does not establish a single clipboard feature that works across every Xbox game, app, and system dialog.

- In Edge: Use its controller copy-and-paste feature.
- For a message, game search, or code: Use the Xbox mobile app’s onscreen keyboard when prompted.
- For frequent browsing: A USB keyboard is an optional typing aid.
- In a game or another app: Use the text-entry method that app provides. A game-specific companion feature may help if its developer documents one.
