To persuade someone in Oblivion Remastered, talk to the NPC, choose Persuade, then use Admire, Boast, Joke and Coerce once each. Larger wheel wedges have stronger effects, so line them up with behaviors the NPC likes; give disliked behaviors the smallest wedges. The wheel advances clockwise after every choice, making the order important.
How the persuasion wheel works
Persuasion is available for most NPCs you can talk to. Raising disposition can help with outcomes such as merchant prices or getting information, depending on the character. The Remastered guide describes disposition as a score from 0 (worst) to 100 (best). Your starting score can reflect earlier actions, race, Personality, reputation and faction affiliation.
Each attempt uses all four behaviors exactly once: Admire, Boast, Joke and Coerce. Each behavior is assigned a wedge from one to four; a larger wedge means a stronger effect, whether positive or negative. After each selection, the wheel advances clockwise.
How to choose actions and wedge sizes
- Open the conversation with the NPC and select Persuade.
- Hover over each behavior to check the reaction cue. Reactions range from Love and Like to Dislike and Hate.
- Plan the sequence around the clockwise movement. Put a large wedge on a behavior the NPC loves or likes, and reserve a small wedge for the behavior they dislike most.
- Select each of the four behaviors once. Since you cannot skip a negative reaction, the aim is to reduce its impact while maximizing the positive effects.
Keep moving through choices: disposition falls while you wait, particularly when your Speechcraft is low.

What Remastered changes visually
After you have attempted persuasion with an NPC, Remastered can show that character’s reactions in color: green for Love, yellow for Like, orange for Dislike and red for Hate. These cues help you plan a later attempt; do not assume they will reveal an NPC’s preferences before you have tried persuading them. PC Gamer also notes that wedge sizes are easier to read in the remaster because they appear as concentric bars. The original PC manual documents the basic persuasion interface but not the Remastered color cues.
How Speechcraft affects persuasion
Bethesda describes Speechcraft as the skill that “Governs the ability to persuade and influence others.” Bethesda also says Personality affects how NPCs react and your character’s ability to persuade them. When to use a bribe instead
You can pay a bribe instead of playing the wheel, or use one to supplement persuasion. The game displays the gold cost and expected disposition increase before you confirm, so compare that cost with the challenge of the minigame. Persuasion may be unavailable when the NPC is already at maximum disposition. Bribery uses gold; the wheel is a skill-based route whose timing and penalties improve with Speechcraft.
