The command depends on your Minecraft edition and what you want to create. In Java Edition, use /place structure for a configured world-generation structure and /place template for a saved template. In Bedrock Edition, use /place structure for supported jigsaw structures, or save and load a custom build with /structure save and /structure load. First check whether you’re playing Java or Bedrock, then choose the matching workflow.

These commands do different jobs: placing a structure is not the same as loading a saved build or searching for a naturally generated one. Before running a command
- Confirm your edition and use that edition’s syntax. When entering a command, use autocomplete to check the identifiers and options accepted by your installed release; available names can change.
- Make sure commands are permitted in your world. Microsoft’s Bedrock /place documentation lists cheats and Admin permission for /place. Its /structure documentation lists cheats and Game Directors permission for that command.
- Choose a destination deliberately. If a position can be omitted, placement generally uses the command’s execution position; an explicit coordinate gives you more control. Check the command’s autocomplete and documentation for the exact argument format in your version.
Java Edition: place a built-in structure or template
Place a configured structure
Use /place structure <structure> [pos] to attempt to place a configured world-generation structure. Add a position to specify where it should be placed, or omit it to use the execution position. The accepted structure identifier depends on the installed release, so use command autocomplete rather than relying on an assumed complete list.
Place a template
Use /place template <template> [pos] [rotation] [mirror] [integrity] [seed] when you want to place a named structure template, such as a saved or otherwise available build. The optional arguments allow placement settings such as rotation, mirroring, integrity and a seed. This is the Java command conceptually suited to loading a template; it is distinct from generating a configured world structure.

Generate from jigsaw pieces
Use /place jigsaw <pool> <target> <max_depth> [pos] to generate from a template pool and jigsaw target, up to the specified connection depth. Exact valid names and syntax should be checked in the game for your version.
Bedrock Edition: place a structure or load a saved build
Place a supported structure
Microsoft describes the Bedrock /place command as placing a jigsaw structure, feature or feature rule. For a supported structure, the documented form is /place structure <structure> [pos] [ignoreStartHeight] [keepJigsaws] [includeEntities] [liquidSettings]. The reference lists minecraft:trail_ruins and minecraft:trial_chambers among its jigsaw structure values; check autocomplete because the available set can vary by release.

Save a build, then load it
- Choose the two corner coordinates that bound the build you want to reuse.
- Save that region with
/structure save <name> <from: x y z> <to: x y z> .... Pick a name you can enter again; a load name must match a saved structure or one supplied by a pack. - Load it at the destination with
/structure load <name> <to: x y z> .... The command has options for rotation, mirroring, entity and block inclusion, waterlogging, integrity and animation; consult autocomplete for their exact order in your version.
Microsoft’s Structure Blocks and the Structure Command Tutorial demonstrates an animated load with /structure load statue ~ ~ ~ 0_degrees none block_by_block 10. That example uses a statue smaller than 64 × 384 × 64 blocks; treat the dimensions and argument order as tutorial details and verify what your release accepts.
Use jigsaw commands for connected structures
Jigsaw commands assemble pieces from a pool, rather than simply copying one saved region. In Bedrock, the syntax is /place jigsaw <pool> <jigsawTarget> <maxDepth> [pos] .... Microsoft’s Working with Jigsaw Structures tutorial demonstrates /place jigsaw mike:ns7x4 mike:nx7x4 10 ~ ~ ~ for a custom data-driven structure. Its workflow requires the Data-Driven Jigsaw Structures experiment. Use /place when you want direct placement control; the tutorial’s guidance for locating a generated custom structure is to use /locate.

Find a structure instead of creating one
If you want coordinates for a structure already generated in your Bedrock world, use /locate structure <structure> [useNewChunksOnly]. Microsoft says /locate searches for the nearest matching biome or structure in the current dimension and returns an error if it finds no match. It searches; it does not place a structure at your location. The documentation cited here does not establish whether a structure placed using /place will be registered for a later /locate search.

If the command does not work
- The game rejects the syntax: Check that you copied the form for Java or Bedrock, not the other edition. Use autocomplete to discover the argument sequence supported by your release.
- You cannot run the command: Check that cheats and the required permission are enabled for the command in your Bedrock world or server.
- A structure name is rejected: The identifier may not be valid in that version, or may not be available in your world. Select a suggested identifier in autocomplete.
- A saved build will not load: Confirm that you saved the region first and that the name passed to
/structure loadmatches the saved or pack-provided structure. - A custom jigsaw structure will not generate in Bedrock: Check that its data-driven content is installed and that the tutorial’s required Data-Driven Jigsaw Structures experiment is enabled.
/locatereturns no match: It searches the current dimension and can return an error when no matching structure is found; it is not a substitute for direct placement.
