In Fortnite Ballistic’s documented rules, attackers carry the Rift Point Device to either of two designated sites, plant it using the in-game prompt, then defend it for 45 seconds while it counts down. Epic’s store listing currently marks Ballistic as unavailable, so these steps explain the mode’s documented objective—not a promise that you can play it now.
How to plant the Rift Point Device
- Play as an attacker and take the device. Ballistic’s rounds pit attackers, who try to plant the Rift Point Device, against defenders, who try to stop them.
- Go to either designated site. Epic describes two sites. Its published rules do not specify exact planting boundaries, so there is no verified universal radius or precise landmark to use.
- Use the on-screen interaction prompt. Epic’s launch article does not name a single planting button for every platform. Follow the prompt shown in your game; if it does not appear, check your active control bindings.
- Protect the device after planting. The documented countdown is 45 seconds. Stay alive and prevent the opposing team from stopping the plant from detonating.
What happens after you plant?
Epic says the Rift Point Device detonates 45 seconds after it is planted. A round can also end if either team is fully eliminated, so planting and detonation are not the only possible route to a round win.

If the game will not let you plant
Check the three basics: you are on the attacking team, you have the Rift Point Device, and you are at one of the designated sites. Then look for the in-game interaction prompt and confirm your current bindings. Epic’s published launch rules do not explain every reason a plant might fail or give exact site boundaries.

The planting instructions above describe the documented rules and should not be taken as confirmation that the mode can currently be launched.

At launch, Epic described Ballistic as a no-build mode and said planting the Rift Point Device earned Credits; players started with 800 Credits. Those are launch-era details, not confirmed current rules if the experience returns. Epic also named South Korea and Russia as launch exceptions, a historical note that does not establish present-day regional availability.
