Install the game on PS5
The US PlayStation Store lists the PS4 game, released November 1, 2016, as playable on PS5. Its listing also carries a caveat that some PS4 features may be absent. Digital copy
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that owns the digital license.
- Open Game Library on the PS5 and find BlazBlue: Central Fiction.
- Select the game and choose Download if it is not already installed. Update the console if prompted.
PS4 disc
- Insert the PS4 disc into a PS5 model with a disc drive.
- Open the game hub and install or start the game as prompted.
- Keep the disc inserted whenever you play; the disc verifies access to the game.
PS4 discs cannot be used on PS5 Digital Edition. Sony’s support page covers both disc and digital installation requirements.

Sony lists DualSense and DUALSHOCK 4 controllers as usable with supported PS4 games on PS5. Officially licensed third-party gamepads and arcade sticks may also work, but compatibility is not guaranteed for every device or title. Check the maker’s compatibility details for your exact controller before relying on it. Sony controller and peripheral guidance.

A standard gamepad is sufficient to play; an arcade stick is an optional preference, not a requirement. Choose the control style that feels comfortable, and verify a stick’s compatibility before buying it for this game.
Start with the right game mode
The PS4 manual describes several modes that make a useful path from learning the controls to playing matches. The order below is a practical recommendation, not a required progression.

- Tutorial: Start here if you are new to 2D fighters or the BlazBlue series. The mode introduces the game’s fundamentals.
- Training: Practice character controls and combos without the pressure of a match.
- Challenge: Try character-specific missions and more practical control and combo tasks.
- Offline V.S. or Arcade: V.S. lets you fight the computer or another local player. Arcade pairs fights against computer-controlled characters with an arcade-style story.
Story is a separate option focused on the game’s narrative. These mode descriptions come from the official PS4 manual.
What to expect from online play
The manual documents PSN network play, including ranked matches, player matches, and lobbies, and says PSN sign-in is required. It also describes support for matches with PlayStation 3 players. These are features documented by the game’s manual, not confirmation of current service status or an active player base. PS5 compatibility caveat
The Store’s warning that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5 is specific to the platform’s compatibility listing. Sony also notes generally that some PS4 functions may be unavailable and some games may show errors or unexpected behavior when played on PS5. That general warning does not establish that a particular Central Fiction mode is broken; it means the PS4 version is supported with a compatibility caveat rather than a guarantee that every feature behaves exactly as it would on PS4.
