Call of Duty Staff describes Collateral as a 5v5 mode built on the Search-and-Destroy format. One team attacks, the other defends, and the sides switch roles during the match. The attacker’s objective is tied to two bomb sites; defenders try to stop the plant or eliminate the attacking team. The announcements establish the structure, but they do not publish a complete round timer, score-to-win rule, economy chart or purchase limit.

Availability and what is confirmed
The August 21, 2026 multiplayer announcement lists Collateral in the launch lineup. A September 29, 2026 PC article gives the full game’s release date as October 23, 2026. Because October 13, 2026 is the latest date covered by the official information here, those are announced specifications rather than proof that the mode is already live.
- Announced player count: 5v5.
- Announced foundation: Search and Destroy.
- Objective: alternating attack and defense around two bomb sites.
- Launch date stated by the PC article: October 23, 2026.
- Still unconfirmed: playlist activation time, final platform-by-platform availability, prices, purchase limits, round timers and the complete scoring rules.
When the game releases, check the in-game multiplayer menu and the publisher’s current service notices for the actual playlist status. Do not assume that a launch-lineup announcement means the mode is accessible at a particular hour or in every playlist rotation.
The announced round loop
1. Enter with a pistol
Every player starts with a pistol. The opening weapon is therefore a shared baseline rather than a choice from a custom loadout. Your first-round plan should account for short-range fights, limited ammunition and the possibility that the opposing team is also saving its first cash for the next buying phase. The official material does not identify the default pistol model, its attachments or its ammunition count.
2. Attack or defend two sites
Rounds assign one side to attack and the other to defend. Attackers work around two bomb sites; defenders protect those sites and attempt to deny the plant or survive the round. Teams alternate roles as the match progresses. The announcements do not state whether the sites have identical layouts, whether a planted device can be defused under a special rule, or how a round is awarded after time expires, so those details should be learned from the live rules screen rather than assumed.
3. Earn cash during the round
Cash comes from kills and objective play. That wording makes both combat and site work economically relevant: a player can contribute through eliminations, but a team also needs people willing to take objective actions. The official articles do not publish dollar values, team bonuses, loss bonuses, assist rewards or a personal-versus-team wallet model. Treat the economy as an announced concept, not a solved spreadsheet.
4. Buy between rounds
Purchases happen between rounds. The shop offers a limited selection rather than every weapon and item in the normal multiplayer arsenal. Money earned in one round carries over, so spending is a persistent decision: buying now may improve the next attack or defense, while saving may make a later purchase possible. No official source cited here gives prices, purchase limits, refresh rules or whether teammates can share money.

5. Survive a single life
Collateral is single-life. Elimination removes you from the current round and costs the loadout you had equipped. Your cash survives into the next round, but the weapons and equipment bought for the lost life do not. That creates a sharp distinction between economic progress and inventory survival: saving money can help later, yet careless deaths can repeatedly erase expensive gear.

The September PC article names six purchase groupings. The examples below are the items specifically listed in that announcement; it does not establish their prices, availability in every round or relative strength.

The category names are more reliable than any assumed buy order. Because the announcement gives no costs or limits, it would be misleading to call one item the best purchase or to prescribe a fixed pistol-to-rifle progression. Read the live shop’s price, quantity and restriction text each round.
Rules that change how you play
No respawns
There is no return to the fight after elimination. A lost gunfighter cannot be replaced by a respawn, so a numerical advantage becomes strategically important even though the official material does not quantify a specific advantage. Avoid treating an early pick as permission to chase another fight; once you are out, your purchased loadout is gone and your team must finish the round without you.
No Killstreaks
Killstreaks are disabled. You cannot bank eliminations for an airstrike, reconnaissance run or another streak reward. Information and pressure must come from the weapons, equipment and team UAV that the shop actually offers, not from the ordinary streak menu.
No automatic health regeneration
Automatic health regeneration is disabled. Damage taken in one engagement is therefore not guaranteed to disappear while you wait behind cover. The listed Stim is an equipment option, but the announcement does not explain its healing amount, cooldown, purchase limit or whether it is the only recovery method. Use cover after a hit and confirm the live item’s behavior before building a routine around it.

No custom loadouts
Custom loadouts are disabled. You start with the announced pistol and construct your round’s kit through the limited shop. Familiar multiplayer classes, saved attachments and preferred perk packages should not be treated as available unless the live mode menu explicitly says otherwise.
A practical way to approach your first matches
The following is general tactical guidance for a single-life, cash-based Search-and-Destroy-style ruleset. It is not a confirmed Collateral meta, because official materials do not provide prices, maps, timers or tested weapon statistics.
Before the first round
- Read the mode briefing so you know which side attacks first, how the two sites are labeled and what the win condition says in the live client.
- Check the shop categories and note the displayed price of each item rather than relying on ordinary multiplayer costs.
- Agree on simple responsibilities: an entry player, a site player, a flank watcher and someone responsible for planting or defusing when the opportunity appears.
- Decide whether your team wants to contest early space or preserve the pistol round for a coordinated site hit. The correct choice depends on the map and live economy, not on a universal buy script.
During a pistol round
Use the pistol start to gather information without turning every doorway into a duel. Move with at least one teammate when possible, clear likely angles, and keep an escape route because there is no respawn. Attackers should make progress toward a site instead of spending the entire round hunting isolated kills; defenders should protect access routes to both sites and communicate if one becomes weak.
After a successful round
Open the shop and record what your team can actually afford. A weapon purchase is not automatically superior to equipment: a grenade that clears a site entrance, armor that changes the outcome of a pistol duel or a UAV that helps the whole team may have greater value in a particular round. Since prices and limits are unpublished, compare the displayed options with your team’s plan each time rather than copying a list from another mode.
After a death
Your money remains, but the loadout on the eliminated life does not. On the next buying phase, reassess what the team lost: if a key rifle or piece of utility disappeared, replacing it may matter more than upgrading a surviving teammate. If you died while carrying an expensive kit, identify the decision that exposed you—an isolated push, an unnecessary re-peek or a late rotation—and change that behavior before spending again.
When your team has a numbers advantage
Protect the advantage. Because there are no respawns and no automatic healing, forcing a final duel can trade away a winning position. Hold crossfires, cover the objective and make the opposing team move. The exact amount of time available and the rules for a draw are not published in the cited announcements, so follow the live round clock and objective indicators.

When your team is down players
Concentrate on a clear, shared objective rather than taking unrelated fights. Attackers may need to force a site before the defense can isolate them; defenders may need to delay a plant or preserve a defuse route. A team UAV, Smoke Wall or other listed utility could support that plan, but the announcement does not establish their costs or tactical effects in detail. Building a team economy without a published price list
Collateral’s economy rewards communication, but no official price table supports exact thresholds such as a “full buy,” “half buy” or “save round.” Instead, use a transparent process:
- At the start of the buying phase, say how much cash you have and what role you expect to play.
- Identify the round’s immediate requirement: a site entry, a hold, information, or objective utility.
- Compare the complete cost of that requirement with the cash that will remain afterward.
- Ask whether losing the kit would leave you unable to perform the next round’s basic role.
- Confirm the purchase before the phase closes; the official material does not say whether unspent cash can be refunded or whether purchases can be changed after the round begins.
This process avoids pretending that an unannounced economy has known breakpoints. Once launch notes publish actual prices and loss rewards, those figures can be added to the decision, but they should not be inferred from another Call of Duty mode.

Attackers
- Keep enough players alive to threaten both bomb sites.
- Use the two-site structure to create uncertainty, but do not split so far that neither group can trade a death.
- Assign one player to the objective and one to watch the most likely retake route.
- Spend utility to remove a defender’s angle or protect the plant rather than throwing it at random.
- After planting, play for the objective and your single life; do not give defenders isolated fights.
Defenders
- Cover both sites and the routes connecting them before committing to a chase.
- Communicate which site is threatened so the rotation does not abandon the other site for free.
- Use information tools or utility only when they support a specific hold or retake.
- Preserve a crossfire and avoid exposing the expensive weapon you bought to an unnecessary peek.
- If the attackers plant, coordinate the retake instead of entering one at a time.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Spending because cash feels temporary
Cash carries between rounds, so buying every available item can leave you unable to assemble a useful kit later. Check the next-round risk before purchasing and make sure the item serves a defined role.
Assuming a normal custom class works
Custom loadouts are disabled. Build your plan around the pistol start and the shop’s current selection; do not waste preparation time tuning a class that Collateral will not use.
Re-peeking after taking damage
With automatic regeneration disabled, a damaged player may remain vulnerable. Fall back, use cover and coordinate a re-engagement rather than relying on health to return on its own.

Chasing kills after gaining a lead
Elimination is permanent for the round. Once your team has more players alive, convert that advantage through the objective and crossfires instead of giving the opponents a trade.
Assuming a listed item has a familiar effect
The announcement names items such as Stim, Smoke Wall, Riot Shield and UAV but does not document their exact behavior in Collateral. Read the in-game descriptions and test their controls in a safe setting when the mode is available.

- The exact default pistol and statistics for the listed weapons.
- Map names, site layouts and the final playlist schedule.
- Platform-by-platform access at launch.
Until those points are documented in final game or service information, avoid guides that present a precise buy chart or guaranteed strategy as official Collateral knowledge.
