Counter-Strike 2 has no macOS version listed on Steam. Valve lists support for Windows and SteamOS + Linux, not macOS. The straightforward, officially listed way to play is on a computer running Windows or Linux that meets the game’s requirements. On a Mac, CrossOver is an unsupported experiment—not a verified way to run the current game or play online reliably.
Can you play Counter-Strike 2 on a Mac?
Not through a native macOS version listed by Valve. The Counter-Strike 2 Steam listing provides system requirements for Windows and SteamOS + Linux, but not macOS requirements. Steam Support explains that the message “Game is not available on your current platform” means the game does not support the operating system currently in use (Steam Support: Game is not available on your current platform).
That distinction matters: Steam’s lack of macOS requirements does not establish that every workaround fails, but it does mean Valve’s listed requirements do not describe a supported Mac setup. Valve has not supplied a Mac configuration or a reason for macOS’s absence in the cited listing.
What are Counter-Strike 2’s official requirements?
Valve’s Steam listing gives the following minimum requirements. They are baseline specifications, not a guarantee of smooth performance or a particular frame rate.

These figures come from Valve’s current Counter-Strike 2 Steam listing (accessed in 2026). They do not specify a tested Mac, compatibility-layer configuration, or expected performance on a particular PC.
What are the options for playing on a Mac?
Install it through Steam natively
The Steam listing does not include macOS among the game’s supported platforms. If Steam reports that CS2 is unavailable on your current platform, Steam Support says the operating system is not supported. A native Mac installation is therefore not an officially listed route.

Try CrossOver only if you accept uncertainty
CrossOver is software for running Windows applications on Mac, and its general documentation covers both Intel and Apple silicon Macs. That general support does not confirm that the current CS2 build works. The available CrossOver user guide is for version 23 (2023), and it does not establish current CS2 compatibility, online play, or performance on any specific Mac (CrossOver Mac User Guide).
Consider a compatibility layer only as an unsupported experiment. Results could depend on the Mac model, macOS version, translation software, game updates, and online-play or anti-cheat behavior. No current verified recipe or Mac performance benchmark is established here. Before spending money or time, look for recent, CS2-specific evidence for your exact setup; do not treat a general CrossOver feature or an older community guide as proof.

Use a Windows or Linux computer
For a route Valve lists, play on a Windows or Linux computer that meets the corresponding requirements. If you are choosing a Windows PC specifically for CS2, treat Valve’s minimums as a floor rather than a performance target. Check current requirements and independent tests for the exact computer if you need to know how it will perform; the minimum specifications alone cannot answer that.

The official evidence establishes a clear difference: Windows and SteamOS + Linux are listed; macOS is not. For a Mac workaround, the evidence does not settle current compatibility, confirmed online play, performance, cost, setup difficulty, or how much maintenance updates may require. Those details can vary by machine and software version, so verify them for the specific setup rather than assuming that a method which launches the game will also work reliably online.
