Fortnite supports cross-play, so PC, console, and mobile players can join the same game. To get everyone together, use the right Epic Games account, add each other by Epic display name, and check cross-play and party settings. Mobile installation depends on your country, device, and storefront.
What you need before starting
- Each player needs access to Fortnite on a supported platform. Epic lists PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS/iPadOS platform families, but the list does not guarantee that every device or operating-system version is supported. Check the PC, Android, and iOS requirements for device-specific details. Epic’s platform list is the starting point.
- Each player should sign in with the Epic Games account that holds their Fortnite progress. Link console identities to that account rather than creating a second account without checking first.
- For mobile, choose a supported local download or cloud-play route. Availability varies by country, device, and service.
Install or access Fortnite on each device
PC and console
Install Fortnite through the relevant platform and sign in with the intended Epic Games account. Epic lists PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platform families; check its supported-platform information and device requirements if you are unsure whether a particular model will run the game.
Android and iPhone or iPad
Epic’s mobile installation instructions list Google Play and the Epic Games Store app for Android. For iPhone and iPad, the App Store route is listed worldwide except Australia; Epic also describes alternative Epic Games Store routes in supported territories. Because storefront access changes by region, check Epic’s current mobile installation guide for your country and device rather than relying on an old workaround.
Cloud gaming
If local installation is not available, Epic lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna as ways to play Fortnite through cloud gaming. Availability depends on the service and supported region, and you need a stable internet connection. Epic describes the mobile version as supporting cross-platform play and account progression, but a cloud session still depends on the service, region, and device you use.

Sign in with the right Epic account
Use the Epic Games account associated with the progress you want to keep. Link each console or platform identity to that same account so eligible content and progress can carry across linked Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch, and mobile accounts. V-Bucks are an exception, so do not assume that every balance or purchase transfers between platforms.
If a platform identity is already linked to a different Epic account, you may see a linking error. And if two accounts have different Fortnite progress histories, Epic says those histories cannot be combined: choose which history to keep before syncing or changing links. Add friends by Epic display name
- From Fortnite’s lobby, open the profile or social controls and choose Add Friends.
- Enter the other player’s Epic display name and send a friend request.
- Have them accept it. They should then appear in your friend list.
Use the Epic display name requested by Fortnite’s friend flow; a console gamertag may be different. Epic confirms that players can play with friends on any platform in its friend-adding instructions.
Check cross-play settings where they apply
Epic says cross-play must be enabled on platforms other than PC or Mac to play with friends on other platforms. The setting differs by platform; do not assume that every device has the same Fortnite toggle.

PlayStation
- Open Fortnite’s lobby menu and choose Settings.
- Go to Account And Privacy, then Gameplay Privacy.
- Set Allow Cross Platform Play to Yes.
Xbox
Epic directs Xbox players to Xbox’s cross-network multiplayer setting. Follow Epic’s current cross-play instructions; Xbox controls are separate from the PlayStation setting in Fortnite.
Switch, PC, and mobile
Epic says cross-play cannot be disabled from Fortnite on Switch, PC, or mobile. If a menu label or platform policy changes, use Epic’s linked instructions for the current steps rather than applying the PlayStation path to another device.

Where a cross-play-off option exists, disabling it can restrict some modes to Solo and may increase queue friction. Epic says cross-play helps lower queue times; it does not publish a queue-time guarantee or a specific wait-time figure.

Once everyone is friends, invite them to a Fortnite party from the lobby and join the same mode. If party members cannot hear or message each other, check Fortnite’s voice and text settings, platform-level permissions, and any parental controls. Party access can also be limited: Epic says Party Joinability defaults to Invite Only for accounts under 18 and cabined accounts, while under-18 players can change it to Friends. Parents can manage communication permissions through Epic parental controls.

For families, Epic also documents screen-time and payment controls across supported devices. Android’s built-in parental controls vary by device, so there is no single universal mobile settings path; see Epic’s parental-control overview and the device maker’s guidance.
Choose an input method that works on your device
Touch controls are an option on mobile, and Epic permits external devices such as controllers, keyboards, and microphones. Compatibility is not guaranteed: Epic says it cannot test every accessory, so check support for your exact device before buying or troubleshooting a peripheral. Epic also states that mouse and keyboard cannot be used with Fortnite on mobile, including through cloud streaming. See Epic’s device and accessory information.
