PS5 launch dates and what is confirmed
Playground Games announced the PS5 version on October 8, 2026. Standard and Deluxe editions are scheduled for January 26, 2027. Premium Edition owners are scheduled to begin playing on January 21, 2027, five days earlier. The announcement also confirms that a PS5 disc edition will be sold through supporting retailers, although retailer inventory was not identified.

The announced platform features are cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions. These dates and features are announcements for a future release. The first-run PS5 flow has not been independently tested, and the exact account-binding rules remain unpublished. Treat the practical checklist below as preparation based on the announced requirements, not as a promise that the launch screens will use a particular layout.

US editions and prices
The following are the US PlayStation Store listings accessed October 13, 2026. Prices, contents, taxes, currency conversion, and availability can differ by country and can change before launch, so check the live store for your region before paying.

The store listing is the source for the displayed US prices and bundle contents. The $20 difference between Standard and Deluxe buys the Welcome Pack and Car Pass in that listing. Premium is $20 above Deluxe and adds VIP Membership, both listed expansions, and the two named car packs, as well as the earlier access date.
Expansion 1 is described by the announcement as arriving on January 21, 2027. Expansion 2 is listed as coming later, without a date in the material available here. The store’s bundle description is not a guarantee that every expansion will be downloadable on launch day.
Which edition should you buy?
Choose Standard if you want the base game
Standard is the straightforward choice if you only want the full game and do not need the listed add-ons or early access. Its scheduled access date is January 26, 2027. It does not include the Welcome Pack, Car Pass, VIP Membership, expansions, or the named car packs shown in the higher tiers.
Choose Deluxe for the two listed extras
Deluxe keeps the January 26 release date while adding the Welcome Pack and Car Pass. It is the middle option for a player who wants those items but does not want Premium’s VIP Membership, expansions, car packs, or five-day head start.
Choose Premium for early access and the largest bundle
Premium is the only listed edition with access scheduled for January 21. It also includes every item named in the table: Welcome Pack, Car Pass, VIP Membership, Expansion 1, Expansion 2, Time Attack Car Pack, and Italian Passion Car Pack. Buy it for the earlier start or because you value that complete bundle; do not buy it solely on the assumption that every expansion is available immediately, since Expansion 2 has no announced release date.

What you need before installing
Prepare the accounts and connection first. This avoids discovering a requirement after the game has downloaded.
- Use the correct PlayStation account. The account that purchases the game is the one you will use for the PS5 installation and PlayStation online features. The store listing says online features require a PlayStation account.
- Have a Microsoft account ready. The PlayStation listing says Microsoft-account registration is required to play. The same account requirement applies when you want the announced cross-platform play feature.
- Keep the PS5 online. The listing specifies a persistent internet connection. Plan for the console to remain connected during startup and normal play rather than treating internet access as needed only for patches.
- Arrange PlayStation Plus if you will play online on console. The store says PlayStation Plus is required for online console multiplayer and is sold separately from the game.
- For an existing save, identify the Microsoft account used on the other platform. Cross-save is announced between PS5, Xbox, and Steam, so access to the account associated with your existing progress is prudent. Do not create a replacement account just because the PS5 version is new.
- If pre-ordering digitally, review automatic-download settings. The store notes that automatic download requires Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In to be enabled on the PS5. Pre-order payment is described as immediate. Those are store instructions and may vary by region or account settings.
Microsoft account linking: what is known and what is not
Confirmed requirements
A Microsoft account is not optional for the PS5 release: the store says registration is required to play, and it explicitly calls for a Microsoft account for cross-platform play. PlayStation account access is also required for the console’s purchase and online features. The two accounts therefore serve different platform roles, even though the final launch flow may ask you to connect them.
Playground Games’ announcement states: “Forza Horizon 6 on PS5® will support cross-platform play and cross-save with the XBOX and Steam versions of the game.” That is a platform capability statement; it does not specify which account can be connected, how many times it can be changed, or whether a single PS5 profile can be moved between Microsoft accounts.
Do not rely on an assumed QR-code or browser sequence
The exact PS5 linking sequence has not been verified. Current public material does not establish whether the console will show a QR code, an alphanumeric code, an in-game browser, or a direct sign-in form. It also does not confirm whether accounts can be unlinked, swapped, or recovered through a particular menu.

Never disconnect an account merely to test another one unless the launch documentation explicitly explains the consequences.
Safe preparation for a transferred save
- On Xbox or Steam, determine which Microsoft account currently owns or accesses the Forza Horizon 6 progress you want to continue.
- Confirm that you can sign in to that Microsoft account independently before January 21 or January 26.
- Keep the account’s recovery methods available. This is preparation for authentication, not a claim that a particular recovery screen will appear on PS5.
- When the PS5 version launches, read every account prompt before accepting it. If the displayed account is not the one associated with your progress, stop and consult the current official instructions rather than creating a second link.
An older Forza FAQ dated January 22, 2026 used an earlier, “later this year” PS5 timing. The October 8, 2026 announcement is the applicable source for the January 2027 date; recheck the official FAQ and the live store page near launch for updated linking guidance.
How cross-save and cross-play affect your setup
Cross-save
Cross-save is officially announced among PS5, Xbox, and Steam. In practical terms, the feature is intended to let progress associated with the relevant Microsoft account continue across those platforms. The announcement does not publish the detailed rules for simultaneous use, account changes, regional entitlements, or what happens when editions contain different downloadable content.
Do not assume that purchasing a PS5 edition automatically merges two unrelated Microsoft accounts. The safest approach is to use the account tied to the progress you want and wait for the released account instructions before attempting any change.
Cross-platform play
Cross-platform play is also announced for PS5, Xbox, and Steam. For PS5 online console multiplayer, PlayStation Plus remains a separate requirement even when the other players are on Xbox or Steam. A Microsoft account is required for the cross-platform feature, while the PlayStation account and subscription govern the console’s online access.

Community-created content
The announcement says EventLab races, Prefabs, Garages, Estates, liveries, and tuning setups are cross-platform. This describes the availability of those community-created categories across platforms; it does not promise that every individual item will be visible immediately or that content tied to an unavailable expansion will work without the required entitlement.
Digital and disc setup on PS5
Digital purchase
For a digital purchase, select the edition in the PlayStation Store for the country on your account. Verify the edition name, access date, and included content before confirming because the prices above are specifically the US listing. The store says pre-order payment is immediate. If you want the game to download automatically, enable Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In as specified by the store.
Physical purchase
Playground Games says a PS5 disc will be available at supporting retailers. The announcement does not establish stock at any particular retailer. A disc purchase still requires the account and connection requirements listed above: the game is not presented as an offline-only product, and the store identifies a persistent internet connection requirement.
Premium early access
If your account owns Premium, the announced early-access window begins January 21, 2027. Standard and Deluxe are dated January 26. If the console does not show access at the expected time, first verify the edition shown in your PlayStation transaction history and that you are signed into the purchasing PlayStation account. Do not infer a regional date from another country’s store.
First launch: a cautious, evidence-based sequence
The exact first-run screens are not published, so the sequence below separates actions established by the listing from steps that depend on the launch build.
- Install the game. Use the digital download or insert the PS5 disc from a supporting retailer.
- Start the game while connected. The PlayStation listing specifies a persistent internet connection.
- Sign in with the PlayStation account used for the purchase and online features. The store identifies that account as required for online features.
- Complete the Microsoft-account registration or sign-in prompt shown by the game. Microsoft-account registration is required to play. The exact screen type is not confirmed in advance.
- If continuing progress, choose the Microsoft account associated with that save. Cross-save is announced, but the binding and switching rules are not yet documented.
- Finish the game’s opening prologue. The announced PlayStation pre-order incentive, a pre-tuned Ferrari J50, is added to the garage after starting the game and completing the prologue.
- For online console multiplayer, verify PlayStation Plus separately. The subscription is sold separately and is required for that mode.
The Ferrari J50 incentive is described for PlayStation pre-orders. The announcement does not state that the car appears before the prologue or that it is granted to every account regardless of purchase timing.

Persistent internet
The PlayStation Store listing specifies a persistent internet connection. This is stronger than a one-time activation requirement: plan to keep the PS5 connected during ordinary use. Connection interruptions can prevent online services or account authentication even if the game is installed.
PlayStation Plus
PlayStation Plus is required for online console multiplayer and is sold separately. Buying Standard, Deluxe, or Premium does not, according to the store listing, include that subscription. The requirement concerns online console multiplayer; it does not change which edition’s single-player game content you own.
Microsoft account versus PlayStation Plus
These are separate requirements. The Microsoft account provides the registration and cross-platform identity required by the game. PlayStation Plus is the Sony console subscription identified for online multiplayer. Having one does not replace the other.
Troubleshooting before and after launch
The game says a Microsoft account is required
That message is consistent with the store requirement. Confirm that you can access a Microsoft account, then follow the released game’s sign-in prompt. If you are trying to recover an existing save, use the account associated with that progress instead of registering a new one.
Your existing Xbox or Steam progress is missing
Check that the PS5 prompt used the same Microsoft account connected to the Xbox or Steam save. Cross-save is announced, but the detailed account-binding behavior has not been published. If the game offers no documented way to change the link, do not repeatedly create or disconnect accounts; consult the current official support instructions.

- Confirm the PS5 is connected to the internet, since the listing specifies a persistent connection.
- Confirm that PlayStation Plus is active on the PlayStation account being used; the subscription is required separately for online console multiplayer.
- Confirm that the game is signed into the intended Microsoft account if cross-platform play is involved.
Premium early access is not appearing
Verify that the transaction is for Premium rather than Standard or Deluxe, that the purchasing PlayStation account is signed in, and that you are using the regional store associated with the purchase. Premium early access is announced for January 21, 2027; the other two editions are dated January 26.
The Ferrari J50 is not in the garage
The pre-order announcement says the pre-tuned Ferrari J50 is added after you start the game and complete the prologue. Finish that opening sequence first. If it remains absent, retain your purchase information and check current official support guidance; do not assume the car should appear on the title screen.
Automatic download did not start
The store notes that Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In must be enabled for automatic download. Check those PS5 settings and confirm the pre-order is on the intended PlayStation account. Automatic-download behavior can vary by regional store and account configuration.
Launch-day checklist
- Confirm whether your edition is Standard, Deluxe, or Premium.
- Use the announced date for that edition: January 26 for Standard and Deluxe, January 21 early access for Premium.
- Sign into the PlayStation account that owns the purchase.
- Have the correct Microsoft account credentials available.
- Keep the PS5 connected to the internet.
- Have PlayStation Plus if you intend to use online console multiplayer.
