There is no official native Android version of Grand Theft Auto V. You cannot legitimately install the full PC or console game as a normal Android APK. The safe way to play GTA V on an Android phone or tablet is to run it on a capable PC, PlayStation 4/5, or Xbox console and stream it using remote play.
You cannot officially install the full version of Grand Theft Auto V directly on an Android phone or tablet. As of August 12, 2026, Rockstar lists GTAV for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One—but not Android. Rockstar’s Google Play catalog includes several genuine mobile games, including Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, and Chinatown Wars, but not GTAV.

You can still play GTA V on Android legitimately by streaming it from a compatible host device. The game runs on a Windows PC, PlayStation console, or Xbox console, while your Android device receives the video and sends your controller input back to that host.

None of these methods copies GTA V to Android. They are remote-play solutions, so you must own or otherwise legitimately have access to the game and the required host hardware.

Method 1: Play GTA V on Android with Steam Link
Steam Link connects an Android phone, tablet, or TV to a computer running Steam. The computer renders GTA V, and Steam streams the picture and sound to Android while returning your input to the PC. Steam lists Remote Play on Phone and Remote Play on Tablet for GTA V Enhanced.
What you need
- A Windows PC capable of running the Steam version of GTA V.
- A legitimate Steam license for GTA V Enhanced or another supported GTA V edition.
- Steam installed, running, and signed in on the PC.
- The Steam Link app installed on your Android device.
- A stable Wi-Fi or broadband connection.
- Preferably, a Bluetooth or USB controller. Touch controls can be available through Steam Link, but a physical controller is much more practical for driving, aiming, and navigating GTA V’s menus.
For GTA V Enhanced, Rockstar’s listed PC requirements include Windows 10 build 1909 or newer, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1630- or Radeon RX 6400-class graphics card at minimum. The recommended configuration includes Windows 11, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 3060- or RX 6600 XT-class GPU. The Enhanced installation also requires 105 GB of SSD storage. Check the current requirements before buying or upgrading a PC, because the exact edition and system requirements matter.
Steam Link setup
- Install GTA V through Steam on the host PC.
- Open Steam and sign in to the account that owns the game.
- Install Steam Link from the official Android app store.
- Open Steam Link and follow its pairing process to connect it to the PC running Steam.
- Pair a compatible controller with the Android phone or tablet. You can also test Steam Link’s on-screen controls if you do not have a controller.
- Open the Steam Link library and start GTA V.
For the most reliable first test, put the Android device and PC on the same home network. Connect the PC to the router with Ethernet if possible, and use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band for the Android device. Once local streaming works, you can test playing over the internet.
Steam Link troubleshooting
- The PC is not found: Make sure the computer is awake, Steam is open, both devices are on the same network, and the correct Steam account is signed in.
- The stream is blurry or stutters: Move the phone closer to the router, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi, connect the PC by Ethernet, and lower Steam Link’s streaming resolution or bandwidth.
- Input feels delayed: Close downloads and other high-bandwidth applications, avoid a congested Wi-Fi connection, and test on the local network before using internet streaming.
- GTA V performs badly even before streaming: Check the PC’s GPU, RAM, Windows version, and available SSD space against the current requirements. Streaming cannot fix poor performance on the host computer.
Method 2: Play GTA V on Android with PS Remote Play
PS Remote Play streams compatible games from a PS4 or PS5 to an Android smartphone or tablet. The official PlayStation listing for GTA V supports Remote Play, but the game remains installed and running on the PlayStation console.
What you need
- A PS4, PS4 Pro, or PS5 console.
- GTA V installed on the console or otherwise legitimately available to the PlayStation account.
- The same PlayStation account signed in on the console and in the PS Remote Play app.
- The PS Remote Play app on a compatible Android device.
- A broadband connection. Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum connection speed and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better experience.
- A DUALSHOCK 4 or DualSense controller, unless your device and game setup support the on-screen controls you want to use.
Android smartphones and tablets running Android 9 or later can use PS Remote Play, according to Sony’s compatibility guidance. Controller support can vary by Android version and device, so check compatibility if you plan to use a controller rather than the on-screen controls.

PS Remote Play setup
- Install GTA V on the PS4 or PS5.
- Enable Remote Play in the console’s settings.
- Keep the console connected to the internet. If you want to wake it remotely, configure the console’s Rest Mode settings for Remote Play.
- Install PS Remote Play on Android.
- Sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console.
- Select the PS4 or PS5 in the app and follow the pairing instructions.
- After the console interface appears on Android, launch GTA V.
Sony recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi where possible. Distance from the router, carrier conditions, network congestion, NAT type, and the upload and download quality of the connection can all affect latency. A connection that meets the speed minimum can still feel poor if its latency or stability is bad.
PS Remote Play troubleshooting
- Confirm Remote Play is enabled on the console and the console is online.
- Check that the app and console use the same PlayStation account.
- Update the console and PS Remote Play app.
- Check connection speed and NAT configuration if the app cannot connect from outside your home.
- Use a compatible controller if touch controls make driving or aiming difficult.
- Test locally first. If local Remote Play works but internet Remote Play does not, the problem is more likely the router, NAT, carrier, or broadband connection than GTA V itself.
Method 3: Play GTA V on Android with Xbox remote play
Xbox remote play lets Android users stream games installed on an Xbox console through Microsoft’s mobile remote-play service at xbox.com/remoteplay. Microsoft identifies Android 8.0 or later as compatible with the Xbox mobile experience and supports touch controls, Xbox controllers, and some other compatible controllers.

- A compatible Xbox console connected to the internet.
- An Xbox edition of GTA V installed on that console.
- An Xbox account with the necessary game entitlement.
- A compatible Android device and a stable network connection.
- An Xbox controller or other supported controller for more precise play.
Xbox remote-play setup
- Install GTA V on the Xbox console.
- Configure the console’s remote features and ensure it remains connected to the internet.
- Update the Xbox console and mobile software.
- Open Xbox remote play on Android and sign in to the account associated with the console and game.
- Connect to the console, then launch GTA V from the console interface.
Xbox game entitlement, console-generation support, region, account status, and service configuration can affect whether this method works for a particular setup. Verify the current Xbox listing and your console’s compatibility before buying GTA V specifically to use remote play.
Xbox remote-play troubleshooting
- Confirm the console is configured for remote features and has not lost its internet connection.
- Make sure GTA V is installed on the console and available to the signed-in account.
- Update both the console and Xbox mobile software.
- Use stable Wi-Fi and a compatible controller.
- If the console connects but GTA V is unavailable, check the game edition and account entitlement rather than downloading an Android APK.
Why “GTA V Android APK” downloads are unsafe
A normal Android APK cannot legitimately turn the console or PC version of GTA V into an official native Android release. Rockstar’s official Google Play developer catalog does not list the full game. Files advertised as “GTA V APK,” “OBB,” or “mobile data” are therefore unofficial claims, regardless of how professional the download page looks.
Google warns that apps installed outside Google Play are sideloaded and can present security risks. Google Play Protect checks apps from Google Play and other sources and may warn about, disable, or remove harmful software. A supposed GTA V installer that requests unusual permissions, asks you to disable Play Protect, installs additional executable files, demands repeated surveys, or redirects you through multiple download pages should be treated as dangerous.

The risks are not limited to malware. Counterfeit installers may contain spyware, credential theft, bundled unwanted software, or deceptive behavior. They may also redistribute unauthorized game files or attempt to obtain Rockstar, Google, Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox login details. Do not disable Android security protections to install one, and do not enter account credentials into a download page claiming to unlock GTA V Mobile.

Official Rockstar games you can play natively on Android
If your priority is a genuine, locally installed Rockstar game rather than GTA V specifically, Rockstar’s Google Play catalog includes mobile versions of:
- Grand Theft Auto III
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
- Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
- Other Rockstar mobile releases, including Bully and Max Payne Mobile
These are separate games. They do not provide GTA V’s Los Santos map, characters, story, graphics, or GTA Online ecosystem. Rockstar’s Android availability announcements for Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars also apply to those titles only; they are not evidence of a GTA V Android port.

- Choose Steam Link if you already own GTA V on a capable Windows PC and want the broadest control over local streaming settings.
- Choose PS Remote Play if GTA V is on your PS4 or PS5 and you want to use that existing console.
- Choose Xbox remote play if you own the Xbox edition, have a compatible Xbox console, and your account is entitled to play it.
- Choose an official Rockstar Android game if you need a game that is actually installed and rendered on the phone.
- Choose none of the APK sites if you do not own a host PC or console. A controller, faster Wi-Fi, or an OBB file cannot replace the required host hardware and legitimate game license.
Before you start: a quick checklist
- Identify whether your copy of GTA V is on Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox.
- Confirm you own or legitimately access the game on that platform.
- Make sure the PC or console is powered, online, updated, and configured for remote play.
- Install only the official remote-play app from the relevant app store or platform website.
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi for Android and Ethernet for the host where possible.
- Pair a physical controller for better driving, shooting, and menu navigation.
- Never disable Play Protect or provide account credentials to an unofficial APK site.
A controller is an optional quality-of-life upgrade for all three streaming methods. It is not a requirement for every device, and it does not make GTA V a native Android game. Check Android, console, and app compatibility before purchasing an accessory.

Is the GTA V Android APK real?
