Play Hunting Horn as an attacking weapon that prepares songs through its combos, then performs those queued songs when you have a safe opening. Once a melody is active, get back to attacking. Echo Bubbles add a positional support tool: place one where allies can use its area effect and where the monster is likely to remain.

How Hunting Horn songs work

Hunting Horn uses blunt attacks and melodies that grant effects to you and nearby allies. Combos create the note sequences for different songs, but completing a sequence only queues it; you must perform the song to activate its effect. Echo Bubbles provide effects within their area, and note and song activity can resonate against a monster covered by the field. PlayStation’s game page describes the weapon’s blunt attacks, combo-triggered melodies, and Echo Bubbles.

That means your support and offense are part of the same loop: attack to prepare a melody, perform it when the monster gives you room, then resume attacking while the effect is active. A performance commits you to an action, so do not stand in danger just to activate a queued song.

A practical Hunting Horn combat loop

  1. Check your horn before the hunt. Read its song list and note set, and consider its Echo Bubble effect and Echo Wave type. Choose effects that suit the hunt and your party, and note how easily you can prepare their sequences during brief openings.
  2. Attack to prepare melodies. Link attacks to enter the note sequence for a song. A completed sequence goes into the queue; it does not grant the effect yet.
  3. Perform during a safe opening. Activate the queued song when the monster is not in a position to punish the committed action. Then return to attacking rather than letting support actions displace damage.
  4. Place an Echo Bubble near the fight. Its area effect helps allies who are inside it, while its resonance value depends on the monster being covered by the field. A bubble left behind after the monster moves is less useful.
  5. Use Offset Melody deliberately. The cited base-game guide describes preparing Offset Melody separately from ordinary queued songs, then releasing it to collide with an eligible attack. Check the move in Hunter’s Notes and practice its timing before relying on it in a hunt.

Where to aim and when to support

Hunting Horn’s attacks are blunt. When it is safe, focus attacks on the head: the guide recommends this because blunt hits can build stun on suitable parts. Do not force a head approach if the monster’s position makes it unsafe; staying on offense and choosing a good performance window matters more than completing a support action at any cost.

Think of Echo Bubble placement as part of your positioning decision. Put it where teammates can stand within its effect and where the monster is likely to be hit by the field’s resonance. If the fight shifts, move with it rather than continuing to act as though the old field still covers the action.
