To set up a feeder rod in Fishing Planet, equip a feeder rod and reel, add line, then fit the sinker or feeder, leader, hook, and bait for the rig you are building. Feeders fish bait on the bottom without a float. The tutorial’s level 3 sinker rig and level 6 feeder rig are useful examples, not universal best builds.
Assemble the rod and reel
- Open rod setup. From the Global Map or a location where setup is available, open the equipment or rod setup interface and select an available rod slot. The tutorial’s assembly tasks begin on the Global Map and call for a rod case and keepnet or stringer.
- Choose a feeder rod and reel. In the level 3 tutorial example, equip a CreekPro 7’10" (240) Feeder Rod with a MiniSpin 1200 Reel.
- Add line. That level 3 example uses Mono .007" (0.18 mm) line, with at least 50 yd (m) for the task. Fit the line through the setup interface before adding terminal tackle.
Choose the sinker rig or feeder rig
The tutorial gives two progression-specific configurations. Use the one that matches your task and available tackle; their parts and bait are not interchangeable instructions for every target or location.

A feeder rod is intended for bottom fishing without a float, and the official Wiki identifies feeder rods as useful for carp fishing. For a different build, compare the rod’s casting-weight range and line rating with the combined load and the fish you are targeting. Also consider whether you are fishing still water or current and how far you need to cast: feeder rods vary, with some suited to heavier feeders and others designed for shorter casts and slower water.
Load groundbait into the feeder
- Have the required groundbait mix in your backpack. The level 6 tutorial task calls for Crimson Cold Water Groundbait.
- Load the mix into a compatible feeder using the equipment interface.
- Cast the loaded feeder to the spot you want to feed. Fishing Planet’s developer diary, “Feeding: Part 1,” explains: “To start Feeding the fish, you must place the chum into a feeder and cast it to the desired spot.”
Once in the water, chum disperses according to the mix, feeder type, and current. The developer diary recommends accounting for bottom terrain, time, weather, temperature, fish activity, and how much chum you distribute. Feeding creates an area rather than guaranteeing a bite; cast accurately, watch for the in-game bite indication, and respond when it appears.

Do you need the Sport Feeder Pack?
No. The tutorial starter setup uses in-game equipment and does not require DLC. Steam lists the Sport Feeder Pack as optional downloadable content for the base game; it includes a Big Alli Sport feeder rod, BigRiver Sport reel, tackle, feeder bait, chum, attractants, and a keepnet. Its price and availability can vary by region and change over time.
