To play Microsoft Edge’s secret surfing game, open Edge, type edge://surf in the address bar, and press Enter. Choose Endless, Time Trial, or Zig Zag, then steer with a keyboard, mouse, touch controls, or a supported controller. Microsoft describes Surf as reminiscent of the classic SkiFree—not as a remake.
How to open the Edge Surf game
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click or tap the address bar, enter
edge://surf, and press Enter. Microsoft’s Edge Surf feature page gives this as the way to start; its game overview also directs players to type the address in the bar. Microsoft describes Surf as playable offline, and its access instructions do not call for a separate game download. - Select a mode from the game menu and begin playing.

Microsoft says each mode records a high score. Its overview of the game also describes an option to reduce the speed for a slower-paced run.

Controls and accessibility options
For keyboard play, Microsoft’s June 18, 2024 Edge Surf walkthrough lists the left and right arrow keys for steering, the up arrow to accelerate, and the down arrow to brake. Microsoft’s feature page lists keyboard and mouse, touch, and supported controllers, including Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, and Xbox Adaptive Controller devices.

Why the SkiFree comparison fits—and where it stops
Microsoft Edge Learning Center calls Surf “reminiscent of the classic SkiFree.” SkiFree is remembered for skiing down slopes, dodging trees, and trying to outrun an abominable snow monster. The comparison is about the throwback feel: Microsoft does not describe Edge Surf as a remake or an identical game.

If edge://surf does not open the game
- Check that you are using Microsoft Edge and that the address is entered exactly as
edge://surf. - Availability can vary by device, market, and browser version, according to Microsoft’s feature page.
- On a managed device, an administrator may have disabled Surf using the
AllowSurfGamepolicy. Microsoft’s policy documentation says that disabling it prevents play both offline and throughedge://surf.
