Minecraft has a native PS5 version, released on October 22, 2024. To play, find Minecraft in the PlayStation Store on your PS5, claim or purchase the version offered to your account, install it, then launch the regular game and start a world. Mojang said existing PS4 owners could claim the native PS5 version at no cost; check your local Store listing and account eligibility, especially if you own a disc copy, before relying on that upgrade.
Get Minecraft on PS5
- Sign in to PlayStation Network on your PS5 and open the PlayStation Store.
- Search for Minecraft and open its listing. Claim or purchase the version available to your account; availability and upgrade eligibility can vary, so use the local listing to confirm the terms.
- Download and install the game, then launch Minecraft from your games library.
Mojang also said new PlayStation players could buy the game through the PlayStation Store or a video game retailer. The native PS5 release was announced with a target of 4K resolution at 60 frames per second; that is Mojang’s announced specification, not an independent performance test. Start a world and use the controls
Choose the regular Minecraft game, then create a new world or open an existing one. The main PlayStation controller inputs listed by Mojang are:

Play multiplayer with friends
Check that everyone is using a compatible edition
The PS5 release is Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. It supports cross-play with other supported Bedrock platforms, including Windows, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile. Java Edition players cannot join Bedrock sessions, so check the edition before troubleshooting invitations. Mojang’s cross-play guide explains platform compatibility.
Link a Microsoft account for cross-play or Realms
- From Minecraft’s title screen, select “Sign in with a Microsoft account.”
- Scan the displayed QR code, or visit microsoft.com/link.
- Enter the code shown in Minecraft and follow the prompts to complete sign-in.
Mojang says one Microsoft account can be linked to a PSN account. If you need to change an account that is already linked, check Mojang’s current PlayStation account-linking help before proceeding.

Choose online or same-console play
Online multiplayer lets you join compatible friends or play through Realms, subject to the applicable platform and account requirements. Console split-screen supports up to four players on one screen, making it an option for playing together locally without separate devices. Online multiplayer may require a separately sold platform subscription; check PlayStation’s current terms for your region. Minecraft Preview is a separate, in-development Bedrock version, not the regular release game. Mojang’s PS4/PS5 instructions say you must own the digital Minecraft version to access it. To install Preview on PS5:
