To play multiplayer in Gears of War: Reloaded, install the game on a supported platform, connect to the internet, then choose Campaign for a two-player co-op story session or Versus for competitive matches of up to eight players. Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Steam players can cross-play. For cross-platform invitations, sign in to a Microsoft account; console players also need the applicable online subscription.
Choose Campaign co-op or Versus
Campaign is the option for playing the story online with one friend: co-op supports two players. Campaign split-screen is also advertised, but it is not available on PC or handhelds. PlayStation’s game page and the Xbox Store listing describe Campaign split-screen.

Gears of War: Reloaded is available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Cross-play connects Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam players, so friends do not all need to use the same platform. The game launched on August 26, 2025, according to Xbox Wire.

Steam lists broadband internet as a PC requirement. For PC play, mouse and keyboard are supported, and controller remapping is available; neither input method is mandatory. Steam states multiplayer can reach up to 144 FPS on PC with capable hardware and a suitable display. Xbox Wire separately states up to 120 FPS in multiplayer. These are platform-specific maximum capability claims, not guaranteed frame rates on every system.
Set up a cross-platform session
Microsoft account guidance has an important distinction. The Coalition’s May 2025 announcement said a Microsoft account was not required just to play cross-platform. The August 2025 Xbox Wire launch article says signing in enables cross-platform invitations and cross-progression, and specifies that all players must be signed in for an eight-player Versus cross-platform party. If you are organizing a cross-platform invite session, have everyone sign in rather than relying on account-free invitations.

- Install and launch the game on a supported platform, and make sure you have an internet connection.
- Sign in to a Microsoft account if you plan to use cross-platform invitations or carry progress between devices.
- Choose Campaign for a two-player story co-op session, or Versus for competitive play with up to eight players.
- Use the game’s current prompts and your platform’s friend-invitation flow to invite or join your friends.
The official sources confirm the modes and cross-platform party support but do not document current menu names or button-by-button instructions for hosting, joining, or matchmaking. Follow the prompts shown in your installed version rather than relying on instructions for an older Gears game.

Online console multiplayer requires the relevant paid platform subscription: PlayStation Plus on PS5 and an Xbox Game Pass subscription on Xbox. Both are sold separately. The reviewed sources establish broadband internet as a Steam PC requirement but do not establish a separate PC multiplayer subscription requirement.
