Download it from Google, sign in with a personal Google Account, and install compatible games from its catalog. It is free to install, but it is not a general Android emulator: games are approved individually, and not every Google Play game is available.
This guide covers the requirements, installation steps, compatibility labels, controls, account syncing, troubleshooting, and the latest features available as of September 2026.
What you need
Google Play Games on PC is available in the United States and other supported regions. Your personal Google Account must use a supported Play country. Check Google’s availability and requirements page if the service is unavailable during setup.
Your Windows PC must meet these minimum requirements:

The 10 GB requirement is particularly important during installation: Google specifies that the C: drive needs at least 10 GB free. If you choose another installation drive, that drive also needs enough available space. See Google’s installation error guide for storage and other error codes.
Install Google Play Games on PC
- On your Windows PC, open play.google.com/googleplaygames.
- Click Download.
- Open the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Sign in with the Google Account you want to use for games.
- Search for a game and click Install.
Use the same Google Account on your Android phone or tablet if you want supported progress to synchronize between devices. Installation checks are mandatory: if the PC fails a minimum requirement, Google says setup will notify you and will not continue.
There is also a Windows-user limitation: only the first Windows user who installed Google Play Games on PC can open and play it.
Enable virtualization if setup asks
Google Play Games on PC uses virtualization, and two separate settings can matter:
- CPU virtualization in BIOS: enable the processor’s virtualization feature in your computer’s BIOS or UEFI settings. The setting may be named Intel VT-x, Intel Virtualization Technology, AMD-V, or SVM, depending on the manufacturer.
- Windows Hypervisor Platform: the installer may ask Windows to enable this feature. Restart the computer afterward so the change takes effect.
BIOS virtualization alone is not always sufficient. Many catalog games require it, while Windows Hypervisor Platform may be required separately by the client.

Enabling Windows Hypervisor Platform can stop other Android emulators from working. To disable the Windows virtualization platform later, open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features → Turn Windows features on or off. Under Hyper-V → Hyper-V Platform, deselect Hyper-V Hypervisor and restart. On Windows 10 Home, deselect Windows Hypervisor Platform instead. You may need to switch this setting back on to use Google Play Games on PC.
Check whether a game is supported
Google assigns compatibility on a game-by-game and PC-by-PC basis. The labels mean:
- Optimized: the developer optimized the game for Windows and the intended PC experience.
- Playable: Google tested it and found it stable, running at 30 FPS or higher, with mouse and/or keyboard support.
- Untested: Google has not tested it on PC. It may appear when you search for it in the PC client, but not while browsing the catalog or Google Play on the web.
- Unsupported: Google has identified technical problems. The game may launch, but crashes, sign-in failures, or poor performance are possible.
- Not available: the game is unavailable on Google Play Games on PC or is unavailable for your particular computer.
See Google’s explanation of PC game compatibility for the current status of individual titles. A game can also be unavailable because the installed client version is limited to Intel processors or because your graphics drivers are outdated.
Do not assume that an Android game listed as compatible will behave identically on every PC. The Syncs across devices label indicates that progress is supported between PC, Android phones, and tablets, but the label is based on one-time testing and may not reflect the newest game version or every hardware configuration.
Use keyboard, mouse, and remapped controls
Open the in-game Google Play Games menu with Shift + Tab. From there you can access options such as controls, fullscreen mode, input language, and exiting the game.

Games with optimized PC controls
For games that already have optimized PC controls, the Controls Editor is unavailable. Change key bindings through the game’s own Game Controls settings page instead.
Games without optimized controls
You can create a keyboard-and-mouse layout with the Controls Editor:
- Run the game in windowed mode.
- Click Game controls on the left side of the game window. In fullscreen, use Shift + Tab → Remap Controls.
- Click Edit, then choose Joystick or Tap.
- Assign a keyboard key and label.
- Drag the control over the matching on-screen button or area and resize it if necessary.
- Click the green checkmark, then click Close.
Joystick controls are pre-populated with WASD when those keys are not already being used. Click Control labels in the sidebar, or press F12, to show or hide labels you created or imported.
Recent updates added more options. The January 2026 update added Aim and shoot controls through Shift + Tab → Remap controls. The June 2026 update added a Zoom control that uses the mouse scroll wheel to simulate pinch-to-zoom in supported games. Add it from the left-side Controls menu, or from Shift + Tab in fullscreen mode. Availability still depends on the game.
Fullscreen and exit shortcuts
- Fullscreen: Shift + Tab → Full screen, or press F11 or Alt + Enter.
- Exit: Shift + Tab → Exit game, or press Alt + F4.
- Input language: Shift + Tab → Input Language, then select a language.
Keep the client updated
Google Play Games on PC no longer supports versions released before May 2022. That support ended on June 5, 2025, and the minimum supported client version is 22.5.464.0. If you are using an older installation, uninstall it and install the latest version from the official website.

To check for updates, right-click the Google Play Games icon in the Windows taskbar notification area. If it is hidden, click the notification-area up arrow first, then choose Check for updates.

If updating fails, uninstall the application, download the installer again from the official Google Play Games on PC website, and reinstall it.
Run multiple games or accounts
Google Play Games on PC can keep up to four game windows open simultaneously, although older devices may support fewer. With one Google Account, a second window can open a different game. To run the same game simultaneously, use multiple Google Accounts.
If multiple windows cause lag or input problems:
- Close unnecessary background applications.
- Lower graphics settings inside the affected game.
- Confirm that the PC still meets the minimum requirements.
- Restart the Google Play Games client.
- Click the window you want to control so it is active.
- Check the control settings for each game window.
An October 2025 update added an account chooser when launching games from desktop shortcuts, making it easier to select the intended account.

To find eligible games, open the Play Pass home page or go to the Explore tab and enable the Play Pass filter. Eligible games show the Play Pass icon; their detail pages may display Ads-free or Fully Unlocked ribbons.
To subscribe on PC, open an eligible game and click Get with Play Pass, or select the Play Pass promotional banner on the Google Play Games home screen. Review the available monthly or yearly plans before subscribing. Individual games, subscriptions, and in-game purchases can still cost money even though the PC client itself is free.
Since March 2026, selected games can be purchased once for access across phone, tablet, and PC. This is limited to participating titles, not all Android games. Since May 2026, supported in-app purchases can use identity verification through a prompt on another device instead of requiring the password to be entered again. For a general reinstall, remove Google Play Games through Windows Apps & features, restart the PC, and install again. To send installer diagnostics, run the installer, click Send feedback, select Send system information, enter #gpginstall in the message box, and click Send.

Official Android gaming on PC: what to expect
Google Play Games on PC is the right choice when you want Google’s official Windows client, supported keyboard-and-mouse controls, and—where the game supports it—shared progress with Android devices. Its main limitation is the catalog: this is not a way to install every Android app or game. Check the compatibility label, synchronization indicator, and account requirements for each title before assuming it will work on your computer.
