Roblox hair codes are usually numeric Marketplace Asset IDs, not secret promo codes. They identify hair accessories, help you open an item’s page, and can be entered in Roblox’s browser Avatar Editor under Advanced. An ID does not give you ownership, make a paid item free, or guarantee that a Roblox experience will load the hair.
This guide explains how to find, check, equip, and troubleshoot Roblox hair IDs, including the important differences between the global Avatar Editor and custom avatar systems inside individual games.
What a Roblox hair code really is
A Roblox “hair code” normally means the numeric Asset ID of a Marketplace item. For example, in a URL such as https://www.roblox.com/catalog/62234425/Brown-Hair, 62234425 is the item’s identifier.
Roblox’s official asset type for hair is HairAccessory. However, not every number copied from a Roblox URL is a hair ID. A catalog number can identify clothing, a bundle, a body part, a head, or another asset type, so always check the item page before describing it as hair.

An Asset ID can help you:
- Open the item’s Marketplace page directly.
- Find the item in Roblox’s catalog.
- Add an owned accessory through the browser Avatar Editor’s Advanced field.
- Use an experience’s custom avatar editor, if that particular game supports asset IDs.
It cannot, by itself:
- Grant an item to your account.
- Make a paid item free.
- Bypass an off-sale, deleted, moderated, age-restricted, or otherwise unavailable item.
- Guarantee that the hair will load in a specific experience.

How to open a Roblox hair ID
Use the direct Marketplace URL
Replace <ITEM_ID> with the number:
https://www.roblox.com/catalog/<ITEM_ID>For example:
https://www.roblox.com/catalog/451221329You can also enter the number in the Marketplace search field. Roblox’s Marketplace supports keyword and title searches, category filters, creator filters, price and sale-type filters, sorting, and unavailable-item results. Check the item before trying to wear it
On the item page, verify:
- Type and category: it should be a hair accessory, not a bundle, head, clothing item, or unrelated asset.
- Availability: determine whether it is purchasable, free, Limited, Limited U, or unavailable.
- Price: a numeric ID does not change the listed Robux price.
- Account restrictions: age restrictions or regional and account-specific limitations may prevent access.
- Ownership: if you want to equip the item, make sure it is actually in your inventory.
Roblox may still show an item page even when the item cannot currently be purchased. A visible page or working URL does not mean that the item is available. The official item-details guide explains how Roblox displays purchasing availability.
How to equip hair in Roblox’s Avatar Editor
For the normal website avatar editor:
- Open Roblox in a browser and sign in to the intended account.
- Select Avatar from the navigation menu.
- Open the relevant category, such as Hair.
- Select the hair item from your inventory.
- If the preview does not update correctly, select Redraw beneath the avatar.
The ID is primarily useful for locating or referencing the item. You do not normally paste a number into the regular Hair list to claim an item. If the item is not owned, the Avatar Editor cannot turn the ID into free ownership.

How to wear multiple hairs
Roblox’s browser Avatar Editor includes an Advanced option for adding more accessories than the normal category limit. Roblox Support says this method supports up to 10 items by entering their numeric Asset IDs.
- Open Avatar in a browser.
- Open the relevant accessory category.
- Select Advanced in the lower-right corner.
- Enter the numeric Asset ID from the item’s link.
- Add the item and check the avatar preview.
This is an equipment feature, not a purchasing shortcut. The item must still be available to your account and compatible with the avatar. Use the ID from the official item URL rather than a number copied from an unverified list.
Finding hair on the Roblox mobile app
On a phone, the documented Marketplace path is:
- Tap More (…) at the bottom right.
- Tap Marketplace.
- Choose a category.
- Search for the item or browse the results.
On tablets, tap Marketplace in the bottom navigation. Guides that tell phone users to tap Avatar Shop may be using an older interface label. Roblox’s mobile Marketplace instructions are at Roblox Support.
The avatar area itself may appear as either Avatar or Me. Roblox has been rolling out the Me label by region. If Me is not visible, use Avatar; they refer to the same general area. Depending on the account and rollout, the path may look like:

Hair Asset IDs are not promo codes
These two systems are often confused:

To redeem a genuine promo code, sign in to the intended account, open Roblox’s code-redemption page, enter the code, select Redeem, and check your inventory if the code awards a virtual item. Roblox’s official instructions are at Roblox Support.
Do not describe a numeric Marketplace ID as a “free hair promo code.”
Do hair IDs work inside Roblox games?
There is no universal Roblox hair-code command or input box. Support depends on the individual experience.

A game may provide its own avatar editor, catalog browser, morph system, or accessory loader. Its field might be called Hair ID, Asset ID, Accessory ID, Item ID, or Catalog ID. The game developer controls the field name, validation rules, ownership requirements, and button used to apply the item.
Roblox provides developers with Avatar Editor Service, which can support Marketplace searches, inventory access, avatar-item equipping, outfit saving, and purchase prompts. That does not mean every experience exposes all of those functions to players.
Before entering an ID in a game:
- Check the game’s own instructions or UI for an asset-ID feature.
- Use only the field intended for catalog or accessory items.
- Confirm whether the experience requires you to own the item.
- Check whether it accepts hair accessories specifically or only game-created outfits.
- Allow for the possibility that the game previews the hair without saving it to your global Roblox avatar.
A list claiming that one command works across every Roblox experience is misleading unless it names the specific experience being discussed.

“The code does nothing”
Common explanations include:
- The experience does not support custom Asset IDs.
- The number was entered into the wrong field.
- The game accepts an outfit or community code rather than a catalog ID.
- The item is deleted, moderated, off-sale, restricted, or unavailable to the account.
- The item is incompatible with the experience’s avatar loader.
- The game permits only items the player owns.
- The number identifies a bundle, body, head, clothing item, or another non-hair asset.
“It works in Avatar Editor but not in a game”
The official Roblox avatar system and an individual experience may use different avatar-loading implementations. Experiences can configure avatar behavior, accessories, scaling, clothing, and body types through their own Avatar Settings. As a result, successfully wearing an item on your global Roblox avatar does not prove that a particular game will load it.

“The ID is valid, but the hair is not wearable”
A valid number only proves that it points to an asset or item reference. Reopen the Marketplace page and check its category and type. It may not be a wearable hair accessory, or it may be unavailable to your account.
“It used to be free”
Free availability is not permanent. An item can become off-sale, moderated, restricted, or removed from ordinary search results. The ID remains a reference to the original listing, but it does not preserve the item’s former price or availability.
“The hair clips through my head”
Roblox accessories are designed around particular head shapes. Hair can clip when the avatar uses a different head, body proportion, scaling setup, or body type from the one shown in the original preview. Try a different head or avatar configuration, but a perfect fit is not guaranteed for every combination.

An experience can temporarily assemble an avatar using its own editor. That visual combination may not transfer to the permanent Roblox Avatar Editor, particularly if the game uses a custom preview or loading system.
How to check a hair-code list before trusting it
For each item, use this checklist:
- Open the official Marketplace URL.
- Confirm that the number opens the intended item.
- Confirm that the category and type identify a hair accessory.
- Record whether it is free, paid, Limited, off-sale, or unavailable.
- If compatibility is claimed, test it in the specific named experience—not just in the global Avatar Editor.
- Do not call an item “working” merely because its URL still loads.
- Do not call a numeric Asset ID a promo code.
- Do not claim that the ID grants the item for free.
- Prefer publishing the direct Marketplace URL alongside the number.
The practical answer
Use a Roblox hair code as an Asset ID: open https://www.roblox.com/catalog/<ID>, verify that the page is actually a hair accessory and check its current availability. If you own it, equip it through Avatar > Hair, or use Advanced to add multiple accessories in the browser editor. In a game, use the ID only if that particular experience provides an asset or hair-ID feature. A number alone is not a free-item code and is never a guarantee of cross-game compatibility.
