You generally do not need to transfer Overwatch progress from Battle.net to Steam. Blizzard says PC progress carried forward automatically into Overwatch 2, and a Battle.net account is still required to play. Install or start the game through Steam, then make sure you use the Battle.net account associated with your progress.
Does Overwatch progress transfer from Battle.net to Steam?
Blizzard describes PC progress as carrying forward automatically into Overwatch 2; it does not describe a separate process for migrating PC progress between launchers. Steam changes how you install and start the PC game, not which Battle.net account holds your progress. Blizzard’s launch checklist says, “A Battle.net account is required to play Overwatch 2 on every platform.”

What to do to play Overwatch through Steam
- Install and start Overwatch 2 through Steam.
- When the game asks you to authenticate with Battle.net, use the account associated with your Overwatch progress.
- Check that the expected progress and cosmetics appear in-game.
The official Blizzard material cited here does not establish the exact current Steam first-launch prompts, so screen labels and steps may differ. Follow the prompts shown in your current game rather than relying on an assumed button sequence.
Will your skins and other progress appear?
For PC progress carried into Overwatch 2, Blizzard says the carryover happened automatically. Your progress is tied to the Battle.net account you use, so signing in with a different account can make the game appear to have the wrong progress. Blizzard’s account-merge FAQ discusses combining Overwatch accounts and cosmetics, particularly across platforms; that is a separate process, not a required PC launcher transfer.

If Steam opens the wrong Overwatch account
- Check which Battle.net account is currently signed in.
- Review the account’s linked services on Blizzard’s account connections page.
- If the account or progress still looks wrong, use Blizzard Support for account-specific help. The available official information does not guarantee a particular recovery outcome.
Do you need to merge accounts?
Not just to play the PC game through Steam. Account merging addresses combining Overwatch accounts and cosmetics, including accounts on different platforms. Changing the PC launcher is not itself an account merge or a progress-migration request.
