Village is listed as supported, with six-degrees-of-freedom VR and game-specific motion controls. This is a community-made PC mod, not an official native PC VR mode from Capcom. The steps below cover the basic setup; optional add-ons such as a VR scope mod have separate requirements.
What you need
- The PC version of Resident Evil Village. The referenced VR scope add-on guide specifically tested its instructions with the Steam version; that does not establish the same test coverage for other storefronts.
- A PC VR headset and a compatible runtime: SteamVR, or OpenXR on a supported headset. REFramework’s README recommends SteamVR unless you are using OpenXR with a supported headset.
- The REFramework VR archive from the project’s official GitHub repository. The project is independent of Capcom and says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Capcom.
Install and launch Village in VR
- Get the current VR build. Open the REFramework repository and follow its Releases or Nightly Developer Builds links to obtain the VR archive. Check the current README and linked VR FAQ or troubleshooting information rather than relying on old forum instructions.
- Choose the runtime. Install SteamVR unless you are using OpenXR on a supported headset. The appropriate option depends on your headset and existing PC VR setup.
- Extract the complete VR archive into the game folder. Follow the README’s current installation instructions for the corresponding Resident Evil Village folder; do not extract only a selected file from the archive.
- Launch the game and verify VR works. Confirm that the headset and runtime enter VR before installing any other mods. If the game does not start in VR, consult the current REFramework README and its linked troubleshooting guidance.
What VR features REFramework supports
REFramework describes generic six-degrees-of-freedom VR for supported RE Engine games and lists Resident Evil Village as supported. Its project site also describes Village-specific motion controls, including hand-tracked weapon aiming and interaction. The project says it supports OpenVR and OpenXR runtimes. These are project capabilities, not a guarantee that every headset, game update, PC configuration, or combination of mods will work.

Keep optional mods separate
Basic VR does not require a scope mod or DLSS add-on. Install and troubleshoot REFramework first; add extras only afterward, and follow each add-on’s own requirements and installation steps.
Example: RE Village VR scope
The separate RE Village VR scope add-on depends on REFramework and has its own version-specific installation instructions. Its page, updated 2 October 2026, reports that a September 2026 DLSS build crashed on some setups when the headset became ready, while the earlier build used in that guide did not. That is the author’s observation about particular builds and setups, not a universal compatibility finding. Check the add-on’s current instructions for the exact files you choose, and keep the scope mod out of the initial VR test.

Choosing SteamVR or OpenXR
| Runtime path | When it fits | What the project documentation says |
|---|---|---|
| SteamVR | You are using SteamVR with your PC VR setup. | The README recommends installing SteamVR unless you are using OpenXR on a supported headset. |
| OpenXR | Your headset is supported and your setup uses OpenXR. | REFramework’s project site lists OpenXR support; the README frames it as the alternative to SteamVR for supported headsets. |
The documentation does not establish compatibility for every headset or runtime configuration. If you are unsure which path your headset supports, check its current setup documentation before choosing a runtime.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If VR will not start
- Recheck the current REFramework installation instructions and make sure you extracted the complete VR archive into the correct game folder.
- Confirm that SteamVR is installed unless your supported headset is set up to use OpenXR.
- Launch Village with REFramework alone before adding a scope mod, DLSS files, or other modifications.
- Use the current project README and linked VR troubleshooting or FAQ pages. An older post may describe a different build or installation method.
REFramework is a community project, and its stated support does not guarantee operation across every game update, storefront, headset, PC, or add-on combination.
