Roblox is a free Xbox app: install it from the Microsoft Store, sign in or create a Roblox account, then choose an experience from Home or Experiences. You’ll need an internet connection. Xbox menus and features differ from Roblox on PC, Mac, and mobile, and some account tasks—such as adding Roblox friends—must be done on one of those devices.
Install Roblox on your Xbox
- Open the Microsoft Store on your Xbox and search for Roblox.
- Select the Roblox app and download it. Roblox describes the Xbox app as free in its Xbox gameplay instructions.
- Launch Roblox once installation finishes. An internet connection is required to play.
Roblox’s gameplay page also mentions Xbox Live Gold, but that subscription wording may be outdated. The available information does not establish which Xbox online multiplayer subscription, if any, is currently required, so check Xbox’s current official guidance before relying on that statement.
Sign in or create an account
At launch, Roblox offers account and Xbox-profile options. If the player is a child using an Xbox child account, a parent or guardian must grant permission through the Xbox Family account before Roblox can be launched.
- Create Account: Make a Roblox account and link it to the Xbox profile currently signed in.
- Sign In: Link an existing Roblox account to the signed-in Xbox profile.
- Choose an Xbox gamertag: Select the Xbox profile to use if you need to switch profiles.

Find and start an experience
Roblox calls its games “experiences.” Browse Home or Experiences to find one to play; recently played experiences also appear on Home. Select an experience to open it. Each one can have its own rules, controls, and mechanics, so instructions in one experience may not apply to another.
Learn the controls
While inside an experience, open the Roblox Menu, choose Settings, then open the Help tab to see the controller map. Roblox describes the general controls as consistent, but individual experiences may add their own mechanics. Use the experience’s instructions as well as the controller map when something works differently than expected.

Play with friends on Xbox and other devices
Roblox supports cross-platform play with friends using PC, Mac, or mobile devices, when the experience supports it. For an Xbox friend, use the Xbox Friends tab to join. For a friend on another platform, Roblox recommends this sequence:
- The Xbox player joins the experience first.
- The friend on PC, Mac, or mobile opens the Xbox player’s Roblox profile.
- The friend selects Join Experience.
Both players selecting Play on the same experience page at about the same time can also improve the chance of ending up in the same server, but Roblox describes joining the Xbox player after they are already in-game as the more reliable approach. Use text chat or voice chat
Text chat
During an experience, press the controller’s Menu button, select Chat, type with the on-screen keyboard, and press R2 to send. A USB or Bluetooth keyboard connected to the Xbox is an optional way to enter text. Roblox says filtered chat is the standard for other interactions; some party voice or chat options are limited to age-checked users and eligible friends.
Voice chat
Voice chat is available only in supported experiences. First-time access requires the user to be at least 13 and complete an age check using ID verification or facial age estimation. After that, turn voice chat on through the experience settings or the headphone icon. Roblox notes that verification methods and features may not be available for every account or in every region. Its Xbox voice chat guidance describes the requirements.

What works differently on Xbox?
The Xbox app does not include every Roblox account feature found on PC, Mac, or mobile. You can change your avatar on Xbox, but creating or joining groups and adding Roblox friends must be handled on PC/Mac or mobile. This is separate from Xbox friends, which you can view through Xbox’s Friends tab. Roblox lists these distinctions in its Xbox feature guide.
If Roblox does not appear in your Xbox Store
Roblox says its Xbox app is available in over 36 countries, and its country guidance gives examples including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The page does not show a clear update date, so availability may change. If search does not show Roblox, check your regional Xbox Store or Roblox’s country availability page.
