Mario 35 Revamped documents a beta server and a redirect patch for the original game. It is community-run, not an official Nintendo service, and its dashboard’s online label does not guarantee that players or matches are available. Nintendo ended the official service on March 31, 2021; it says the game is no longer playable and cannot be downloaded or redownloaded from the eShop.
What happened to the official Super Mario Bros. 35 service?
Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. 35 on October 1, 2020, as a limited-time game for Nintendo Switch Online members. It offered online matches for 2–35 players and was developed by Arika and published by Nintendo, according to Nintendo’s UK product page.

Nintendo announced that the service would end on March 31, 2021. The game stopped being playable on that date, even if it remained installed on a console. Nintendo Support now states: “As of March 31, 2021, Super Mario Bros. 35 is no longer playable and cannot be downloaded or redownloaded from Nintendo eShop.” See Nintendo Support’s current notice and Nintendo Australia’s March 3, 2021 announcement.
Can you still download the game?
Nintendo’s current support page says the game cannot be downloaded or redownloaded from the eShop. A community guide says an account that downloaded it before may still be able to redownload it, but that is not guaranteed and conflicts with Nintendo’s wording. Check your own Nintendo Account and console rather than relying on a general promise of access. A fan server does not supply the original game.

What is Mario 35 Revamped?
Mario 35 Revamped is a community project that says it has a beta server for Super Mario Bros. 35, with additional modes and a dashboard. Its dashboard provides a redirect patch and separate setup instructions for emulation and modded Switch hardware. The patch redirects the game away from Nintendo’s discontinued servers and toward the community service. These are project-provided instructions, not Nintendo instructions or an official Nintendo service. See the Revamped dashboard and the team’s beta announcement.
The dashboard showed “ONLINE” when checked, but also showed zero connected players, zero active sessions, and no recent matches. That is a momentary status-page reading, not proof of continuous uptime, successful matchmaking, or populated games. Check the dashboard close to the time you plan to play.
How to connect to the Revamped fan server
Revamped documents three routes. All assume you already have a legally acquired copy of Super Mario Bros. 35; its emulator instructions also require console keys. The project says it does not provide the game or keys. Switch installation assumes a modded console running Atmosphère and an existing copy at version 1.0.2.
Rank #2
- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
- Use a PC emulator: Follow the emulator setup guide linked from the Revamped dashboard. You need the game and console keys; the guide does not provide them.
- Patch a modded Switch manually: Follow the dashboard’s manual Switch instructions for a console running Atmosphère. This route presumes the game is installed at version 1.0.2.
- Use a Switch mod manager: Follow Revamped’s separate mod-manager instructions, also linked from the dashboard. This route likewise assumes a modded Switch and the specified game version.
Follow the project’s current steps for the route you choose and confirm its status before troubleshooting your setup. The redirect patch is what points the original client to Revamped; simply having the game installed does not restore Nintendo’s service.
Do you need extra Switch hardware?
Not for every route. Revamped also documents an emulator setup, and its own setup paths do not call for an RCM jig. A separate community guide for the Continued Interest Server names a Nintendo Switch RCM jig for that guide’s Switch hacking route, recommends a 64 GB microSD card with more than 32 GB free, and mentions a USB-A-to-USB-C cable for computer users. Those are recommendations tied to that guide, not universal Revamped requirements; you may already have a suitable cable. The guide itself flags some instructions as outdated, so consult its setup page only for the particular route it describes.
How Revamped differs from other fan projects
Several community projects involve Super Mario Bros. 35, but they are not interchangeable. Their published status and evidence differ:
Quick Recap
| Project | What its published material establishes | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Mario 35 Revamped | A beta dashboard, redirect patch, and instructions for emulator and modded-Switch routes; the project describes additional modes. | The dashboard’s status and player counts are snapshots. “Online” alone does not establish playable, populated matches. Project dashboard |
| kinnay custom server | An earlier open-source fan-server project. | Its repository says it is archived, unmaintained, and no longer hosted by its author. Repository |
| Nextendo Network | A separate implementation of an SMB35 NEX service, with matchmaking handing gameplay to an Eagle relay. | Its authors say real-client end-to-end verification and multi-client testing are still needed; it should not be treated as confirmed working with the game. Repository |
