How to access The Signal and The Writer
- Open Alan Wake Remastered and choose Episodes from the main menu.
- Choose a difficulty.
- Select The Signal or The Writer from the episode list. Gamepur’s October 2021 guide says the two special episodes appear below the six main episodes (Gamepur’s access guide).
If you have just finished the main story and are looking for a separate “DLC” menu item, look under Episodes instead.

Which episode should you play first?
A sensible story sequence is to finish the main game, then play The Signal, followed by The Writer. Treat this as a recommended order, not a required unlock sequence: Remedy confirms both expansions are included but does not specify a required unlock condition or mandated order on its FAQ.
Are the episodes included with Alan Wake Remastered?
Yes. Remedy says the Remastered edition includes the original game and both expansions, The Signal and The Writer. Although they were originally sold separately, they are part of the Remastered package; you should not need to purchase either one separately for this edition. Which platforms have Alan Wake Remastered?
Remedy’s current product page lists Alan Wake Remastered for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The menu path above is reported for the Remastered release; menu presentation can vary slightly by platform. Remedy’s September 2021 launch announcement originally named PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series consoles; Switch was added later (Remedy’s launch announcement and current platform listing).
