What order should you play the Metro games in?
- Metro 2033 Redux — the opening of Artyom’s story, set in 2033.
- Metro: Last Light Redux — the direct continuation, set in 2034.
- Metro Exodus — the next main entry, set in 2036.
Deep Silver’s official Metro story guide presents Metro 2033 as the beginning, Last Light as its continuation and Exodus as the journey beyond the Metro. The order is the same whether you play the original releases or the Redux editions of the first two games.

Where do The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story fit?
Both are expansions for Metro Exodus. Play them after the main campaign so they do not interrupt the main journey.
Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels
This expansion follows Colonel Khlebnikov in Novosibirsk as Colonel Miller retraces his final days. The official description does not specify an exact chapter break within Exodus, so the clearest story-focused placement is after the campaign.

Metro Exodus: Sam’s Story
Play this expansion after Exodus. Deep Silver describes Sam’s story as taking place “after the events of Metro Exodus.”
Does Metro Redux include every game in the series?
No. Metro Redux is a collection of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light in their Redux editions. It is a convenient way to get the first two games together, but it does not include Metro Exodus or its expansions.

What about Metro Awakening?
Metro Awakening is a 2024 VR entry listed by PLAION for SteamVR, Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2. The official support catalogue does not establish its exact place in the timeline, so a precise chronological position cannot be given here. If your priority is Artyom’s main-game arc, play the trilogy first and treat Awakening as optional.

- Confirm that the edition is compatible with your platform.

- If you want the Exodus expansions, confirm that both The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story are included.
