Choose a digital edition
Both storefronts currently list the original PC game. The evidence does not establish that either one works better on every modern PC, so choose based on where you keep your games and whether you want an offline installer.

Install and test before modifying the game
- Buy or open the game on your chosen storefront and follow its current download and installation instructions.
- Launch the game once with the default installation. Check that it starts and that you can reach gameplay before trying community fixes.
- If it does not launch or behaves unexpectedly, consult the storefront’s current support information and describe the symptom precisely. Avoid downloading arbitrary compatibility files.

Optional: add widescreen support with a community guide
The game’s original installation may need changes for a widescreen resolution. The Deadly Stream UniWS guide describes a multi-step community method for retail, Steam, and GOG versions. It involves editing swkotor.ini, modifying the game executable with UniWS, and installing interface files that match the selected resolution. This is not official support, and the procedure depends on the game version and resolution.
- Make a backup of the game folder and original executable before proceeding.
- Check the guide’s instructions for your specific edition and intended resolution; do not assume files or steps for one setup apply to another.
- Follow the guide’s current directions for the INI edit, executable patch, and matching interface files. The linked tools and files may change over time.
- If the result is broken or you want to return to the original setup, restore your backup rather than layering on additional unverified downloads.
What to expect on Windows 11
GOG’s listing includes Windows 11, while Steam’s game page retains XP/Vista requirements. These are useful storefront details, not controlled compatibility tests or promises that every system will behave identically. Players have reported different experiences and possible windowed-mode workarounds in a GOG community thread; those posts are anecdotal and specific to individual setups. Treat any user-described INI change as something to assess cautiously, not a guaranteed fix.
