Yes—there is an unofficial way to run The Simpsons Game natively on a Windows PC. The Simpsons Game Recompiled project recompiles the Xbox 360 game code for x86-64 computers. You must supply your own Xbox 360 copy and an ISO image; the project does not include the game. Windows is documented as playable, though it has been tested less extensively than Linux.

Is there an official PC version of The Simpsons Game?

No official PC version is listed in Electronic Arts’ original 2007 release announcement, which names Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS. The current native PC route is a community project, not an EA or Microsoft port: The Simpsons Game Recompiled.

Microsoft announced an early-release Xbox backward-compatibility program for PC in July 2026, but The Simpsons Game was not among its four announced launch games. That announcement does not establish an official PC release for this title. Sources: EA’s 2007 platform announcement and Xbox Wire’s July 2026 announcement.

What you need before installing

  • Your own Xbox 360 copy and an ISO image. The project provides no game content. You need to create or obtain the ISO from a copy you own and follow the backup laws that apply where you live.
  • A 64-bit x86 PC. The standard Windows package requires AVX2. If your CPU supports SSE4.2 but not AVX2, the project offers a slower -NoAVX2 package.
  • A current Direct3D 12 driver for Windows.
  • About 5 GB of free space for the installed game data, according to the project’s README.

The project identifies the USA Xbox 360 release, title ID 45410809, as its source target. Its README says the European release also boots and plays, but has received less testing.

#1 Best Overall
The Simpsons: Hit and Run
  • Mission-based driving game featuring the cast of the Simpsons
  • New story and dialogue crafted by writers from The Simpsons television show
  • All character voices supplied by the cast of The Simpsons television show
  • Over 56 missions in 7 huge levels
  • For one or more players

Install and launch the game on Windows

  1. Check that your CPU, graphics driver, and available storage meet the project’s requirements. Choose the standard or -NoAVX2 build to match your processor.
  2. Download the Windows archive from the project’s releases page and extract it.
  3. Run simpsons-launcher.exe. The project describes the launcher as standalone; it does not require Python.
  4. Open the launcher’s Install tab and select the ISO image of your own Xbox 360 copy. The launcher extracts and installs the game data.
  5. Press Play. The launcher can also add the game to Steam.

The Xbox 360 disc itself does not simply run in Windows: this setup uses an ISO and the recompilation project’s launcher to install the game data.

Controls: controller or keyboard and mouse

A controller is recommended, but it is not required. The project supports remappable keyboard and mouse controls. Its default layout uses WASD to move, the mouse to control the camera, Space to jump or confirm, left-click to attack, and E to talk, use, or pick up items. Consult the launcher settings and in-game controls reference for the complete mapping.

Frame rate and known issues

The project sets gameplay to 60 FPS by default; menus, the title screen, and loading screens remain at 30 FPS. Some scripted sequences may behave incorrectly at 60 FPS. The README specifically warns that random deaths can occur in the dam section of “Lisa the Tree Hugger”; if that happens, switch gameplay to 30 FPS.

If videos display a black screen on Windows, the project advises trying its Vulkan graphics backend. Windows is described as playable but less tested than Linux, with most Windows testing performed on Steam Deck hardware, so results may vary across PCs. Check the project README and releases for current compatibility information before installing.
