Undertaker is a strength-and-faith front-liner: keep up close-range pressure with her hammer, use Trance to build power through successive attacks, and send Loathsome Hex after a vulnerable target or to close a gap. Her Confluence passive can also let her use her Ultimate Art after a nearby ally activates theirs—or after she closely evades certain darkness-infused attacks.
What Undertaker’s kit is built to do
Bandai Namco describes Undertaker as an abbess with strength and faith in equal measure. That pairing supports a style that mixes physical hammer attacks with seal-based incantations. Her default cudgel-like hammer attacks faster than Raider’s great axe, while persistent attacks can bash through heavy armor and take down shields. Bandai Namco’s Undertaker feature describes her as a pressure-focused front-liner.

How Trance works
Trance is Undertaker’s character skill. Bloodletting triggers the loathsome hex, increases her agility, and raises attack power through repeated attacks. The official character description also says that exhausting her Ultimate Art gauge activates an additional hex. Bandai Namco’s feature adds that Trance increases toughness and makes movement more fluid; with a full Ultimate Art gauge, it can deepen into a trance that automatically evades incoming attacks. See Undertaker’s official character page for the ability description.
In practice, use the successive-hit benefit when it is safe to stay engaged, but do not treat it as a reason to keep attacking through a boss’s tell. Use movement to leave a dangerous pocket or make room to cast, then return when there is an opening. The official descriptions explain the skill’s benefits but do not provide exact combo timings or a damage-maximizing rotation.

How Confluence gives you more Ultimate Art opportunities
Confluence is Undertaker’s passive. When a nearby ally activates an Ultimate Art, Undertaker can quickly activate her own regardless of how full her gauge is. The official character feature also describes a second trigger: closely evading certain darkness-infused enemy grabs or attacks can accelerate her art. Not every enemy attack qualifies, so watch for the relevant tells rather than assuming any dodge will activate it.
In cooperative play, pay attention to teammates’ Ultimate Arts and coordinate when possible. In solo play, Undertaker is still usable, but the ally-triggered Confluence interaction is not available.
When to use Loathsome Hex
Loathsome Hex is Undertaker’s Ultimate Art. She draws out an uncanny bone, speeds toward a target, and strikes with fast attacks. The official feature says it can target a body part and track flying enemies within range. Use it to close distance or convert a clear opening into a hit; its description does not mean it will reach every airborne enemy.

Since Confluence can provide additional activation opportunities, Hex need not be reserved solely for moments when your own gauge is full. Still, choose a target and opening you can capitalize on rather than spending it blindly.
A practical approach for a new Undertaker
- Learn the hammer first. Get comfortable with its moves and attack rhythm before building a fight around Trance.
- Keep pressure when it is safe. Use successive attacks to benefit from Trance, but disengage when an enemy is about to punish you.
- Make space deliberately. Move out of an unsafe pocket or to a position where an incantation is useful, then return to melee when the opening appears.
- Watch for Confluence triggers. In a team, notice nearby allies’ Ultimate Arts; against relevant enemies, look for darkness-infused attack tells that can be closely evaded.
- Use Hex with purpose. Spend it to cross distance or strike a vulnerable target, including a flying one that is within range.
Undertaker build: what the official guidance supports
The clearest starting point is a strength-and-faith hybrid that supports both hammer pressure and seal-based incantations. When choosing weapons, compare their attack speed, their ability to pressure guard or stagger, and how well they complement the incantations you use. Her default hammer is described as relatively fast and capable of pressing armored or shielded enemies with persistence.
Bandai Namco’s pages do not name a best-in-slot weapon, relic set, spell loadout, or patch-specific build, nor do they publish Undertaker-specific damage, range, cooldown, or win-rate figures. Treat any precise “best build” claim as a separate community recommendation, not an official universal answer. Ability balance can change with patches, so check the current in-game descriptions.

Practice and expedition context
Use the Sparring Grounds to test weapons, equipment, and skill timing before an expedition. The Official Starter Guide describes adjustable character level and regeneration, as well as settings that remove limits on consumables, skills, and Ultimate Arts. It is a useful place to learn when Trance ends, how Hex targets, and how different weapons feel.
Undertaker’s kit is only one part of an expedition. The Official Gameplay Guide says Nightfarers enter Limveld at level 1, gain runes by defeating enemies, and level up at Sites of Grace. Expeditions span three days, with exploration and preparation between nighttime bosses and a final Nightlord encounter; route and upgrade decisions happen under a shrinking safe-area timer.
Recommended Free Tools
The Starter Guide describes solo play online or offline, with reduced enemy HP, and cooperative play requiring an internet connection. Undertaker can be played solo, but her nearby-ally Confluence trigger is specifically a team interaction.
