How does Vex’s element mechanic work?
Vex’s action skills resonate with the element of the weapon she has equipped. The official gameplay showcase gives shock, incendiary, and cryo as examples. Carry weapons with different elements and switch to the one that best fits the enemy or situation; changing weapons also changes the element tied to her action skills.
The available official material establishes this elemental link, but does not specify every interaction or matchup. Use the in-game descriptions and combat feedback to decide which element to bring to a particular fight.

Which Vex action skill and skill tree should you choose?
Each Vault Hunter has three action skills and three skill trees. The useful starting point is the style you want to play, rather than chasing a supposed universally best Vex build: pick the action skill whose combat feel appeals to you, then invest in skills that support that approach.
- If you want phase abilities to define your fights, choose skills that reinforce the action-skill approach you enjoy.
- If you like having summoned allies involved, favor the options and upgrades that support that style.
- If you prefer to contribute more directly with your guns, build around the action skill you can use comfortably while continuing to shoot and reposition.
These are ways to frame your choice, not verified rankings of Vex’s action skills. Compare them by preferred combat range, how much you want to rely on summons, elemental flexibility, and how much of your damage you want to contribute with weapons.

How should you handle weapons and movement in a fight?
- Bring elemental variety. Keep weapons with different elements available so you can change the element linked to Vex’s action skills when the encounter calls for it.
- Use the action skill that fits your approach. Build around the ability you want to use, rather than spreading investment without a clear playstyle.
- Keep moving while you apply pressure. Borderlands 4’s movement toolkit includes gliding, dodging, fixed-point grappling, and double jumping. Use these to change position, avoid attacks, and find a useful angle for weapons and skills.
What is known about Vex balance?
Official 2K update notes dated October 2, 2025 reported increases to some Vex skill damage values, including a 16.6% increase to Incarnate phase-explosion damage and a 21.9% increase to Rabatzi damage. These are patch adjustments from that date, not measures of current performance.
Notes dated October 16, 2025 also included a pet critical-chance fix and a change to Vex bleed classification. Those dated notes do not establish the live balance state in 2026. For exact damage, cooldowns, or current build decisions, rely on the skill text in your current game and the latest official patch notes rather than treating older values as current.
