Updated August 2026: Yandere Simulator still has no native macOS version. You can, however, try the official Windows download through a Wine-based compatibility tool on some MacBooks—most practically, an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS Sonoma 14 or later.
The simplest free route is Whisky. It can run the Windows launcher or game executable without installing a complete copy of Windows, but Whisky is no longer actively maintained. That means a newer macOS release, Whisky component, or Yandere Simulator update can break a setup that previously worked.

Yes, it can run through compatibility software on some MacBooks, but it is not supported as a native Mac game. The official release is primarily for Windows, and compatibility depends on your Mac’s processor, macOS version, Whisky or CrossOver version, game build, graphics settings, and whether the launcher works correctly.

A successful installation does not guarantee that every future update, mod, graphical feature, or launcher function will work. For the least uncertainty, use a Windows PC or a supported Windows virtual machine.
Check your MacBook first
Open Apple menu → About This Mac and check the processor and macOS version.

Apple Silicon models include Macs with Apple M-series processors. The official Yandere Simulator macOS guide describes its Whisky workflow for Apple Silicon, particularly M1, M2, and M3 systems. It does not establish guaranteed compatibility for every Mac model or future chip.
Before downloading anything, also check that you have enough free storage for the download, extracted files, and Whisky bottle. The official full ZIP is approximately 2.82 GB, and the download page lists 8 GB of RAM for that archive. The game’s FAQ describes 8 GB as a minimum and 16 GB as preferable for stability on Windows; those figures are not guaranteed Mac performance requirements.
What you need to download
- Whisky, from its official site or official project page.
- The official Windows launcher or ZIP archive from yanderesimulator.org/download.
- A stable internet connection, especially if you choose the launcher.
Do not download a supposed “Mac version,” random DMG file, repacked archive, YouTube description link, pirated copy, modified build, or fake mobile version. The legitimate game files are Windows files and normally contain an .exe executable.
What Whisky does
Whisky is a graphical macOS wrapper around Wine. It creates a bottle—an isolated Windows-like environment—and uses Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit components to help run Windows software. It is not a native Yandere Simulator Mac release and should not be treated as a conventional emulator.
Apple describes Game Porting Toolkit as developer-oriented technology for evaluating and porting Windows games to Apple platforms. Apple does not officially support Yandere Simulator through it.

There is an additional risk in 2026: Whisky’s maintenance notice says the project is no longer actively maintained, will not receive general Wine upgrades, and may break after future macOS or application updates.

Method 1: Install Yandere Simulator with Whisky
Before starting
- Confirm that your Mac has Apple Silicon.
- Confirm that macOS is Sonoma 14 or later.
- Make sure Whisky will be installed in
/Applications. - Bookmark the official Yandere Simulator download page.
- Keep the original downloaded archive as a backup until the game launches successfully.
Step 1: Install Whisky
- Download Whisky from getwhisky.app or its official GitHub project.
- Open the downloaded ZIP.
- Move the Whisky application to
/Applications. - Open Whisky from Applications, not directly from Downloads or a mounted disk image.
- Allow any first-run prompts for components such as Rosetta or Game Porting Toolkit components, if Whisky displays them.
The official macOS guide specifically warns that running Whisky from Downloads or a mounted DMG can cause launch problems.
Step 2: Create a bottle
- Open Whisky and click the + button.
- Name the bottle something recognizable, such as
YanSim. - Choose an available Windows version, such as Windows 10.
- Keep the default bottle location unless you have a specific reason to change it.
- Select the new bottle in Whisky’s sidebar.
Use one bottle for the game. If troubleshooting becomes necessary, create a separate clean bottle rather than repeatedly changing the original one.
Step 3A: Recommended launcher method
- Open the official download page.
- Download the Windows launcher, listed for Windows 10/11 and approximately 15 MB.
- Double-click the downloaded ZIP in Finder to extract it.
- Confirm that the extracted folder contains
YandereSimLauncher.exe. - Open the Whisky bottle’s Windows-style
C:drive. - Copy the entire extracted Yandere Simulator folder into a location such as
drive_c/ordrive_c/Program Files/. - In Whisky, choose Pin Program or Run.
- Select
YandereSimLauncher.exe. - Launch it, then choose Download on the first run.
- When the download finishes, choose Play.
The launcher is the easier option for receiving later updates. Use its Update function when a new build is available.

Use the ZIP method if the launcher cannot download the game or you want a self-contained installation. The official ZIP is approximately 2.82 GB and does not update automatically.
- Download the official ZIP archive from the Yandere Simulator download page.
- Extract it in Finder.
- Confirm that the extracted folder contains
YandereSimulator.exe. - Open the Whisky bottle’s
drive_cfolder. - Copy the entire extracted game folder into the bottle.
- In Whisky, choose Pin Program or Run.
- Select
YandereSimulator.exe.
To update a ZIP installation, download and extract the newer official archive, then replace the old game folder. Do not mix individual files from different builds; that can create confusing launch and crash problems.
Launcher or ZIP: which should you choose?

First-launch settings and controls
Start with a low or medium graphics preset. If the game stutters, lower resolution, shadows, and visual effects before changing anything else. Close browser tabs and other demanding applications, keep the Mac plugged in, and use a hard surface rather than soft bedding for ventilation.
Test the unmodified game before adding mods. Keep a clean copy of the original game folder and change only one setting at a time so you can identify what caused a problem.

- On-screen prompts identify interaction, attack, conversation, and other actions.
- Hotkeys provide access to features such as the smartphone, Yandere Vision, and laughing.
Key bindings and prompts can change between builds, so use the game’s controls or settings menu rather than relying on an old keyboard chart. A USB or Bluetooth mouse may be more comfortable than a trackpad for camera movement and aiming; it is practical advice, not a game requirement.
Troubleshooting
Whisky will not open
- Confirm that Whisky is in
/Applications. - Confirm that the Mac is Apple Silicon.
- Check that macOS meets Whisky’s current requirements.
- Make sure the app was fully copied out of the downloaded ZIP.
- Respond to macOS privacy and security prompts.
- Allow Rosetta or other first-run components to install if requested.
If the Mac is Intel, stop treating this as a routine Whisky problem: the current Whisky requirements do not target Intel Macs.
The game does not appear in Whisky
The most common causes are selecting the ZIP instead of extracting it, leaving the executable in Downloads or on the desktop, failing to copy the game into the bottle, or selecting the wrong executable.
- Extract the archive in Finder.
- Copy the complete game folder into the bottle’s
drive_c. - Select
YandereSimLauncher.exefor the launcher orYandereSimulator.exefor the direct game. - Pin or run that executable again.
The launcher will not download the game
Network interruptions, a slow or unavailable download host, a path problem, or incompatibility with the current Whisky environment can all cause this.
- Close and reopen the launcher.
- Confirm that the Mac is online.
- Try the official full ZIP archive.
- Do not combine partially downloaded launcher files with a separate ZIP build.
The game crashes or shows a black screen
- Create a fresh Whisky bottle.
- Install the unmodified game into that bottle.
- Try the ZIP build if the launcher was used first.
- Lower graphics settings if the game reaches the menu.
- Check whether the issue started after a game or macOS update.
- If it continues, try CrossOver or Windows rather than repeatedly modifying the same bottle.
Do not assume that a community font package, registry edit, or terminal command is universally valid. Such workarounds can be version-specific and are not official installation instructions.
Missing text or graphical glitches
The official FAQ warns that Mac compatibility can involve graphical glitches and crashes compared with Windows. Try a clean bottle, the ZIP build, lower graphics settings, or another compatibility layer. If an official older archive is available, testing a known-working game build may help, but avoid unofficial “fix packs.”
Poor performance
- Lower resolution, shadows, and visual effects.
- Close background applications.
- Keep the Mac connected to power.
- Use a hard, ventilated surface.
- Test without mods.
- Try a mouse if camera movement is difficult with the trackpad.
There is no responsible universal FPS figure for this setup without specifying the Mac model, macOS version, wrapper version, graphics settings, and game build.

CrossOver is a paid commercial compatibility layer and a realistic alternative when Whisky is not suitable. CodeWeavers currently lists Yandere Simulator for macOS as Limited Functionality on its compatibility page. That is not a guarantee that every current game build will launch or play correctly.

CodeWeavers advertises a 14-day fully functional trial on the compatibility page. Try the game during the trial before buying. Do not purchase CrossOver on the assumption that a paid wrapper provides perfect compatibility; game-specific problems can remain.
The basic approach is similar: install CrossOver, create a bottle, use the official Windows download, and run the appropriate .exe. Follow CrossOver’s current interface and documentation because its labels and installation workflow can change independently of Whisky.
What about an Intel MacBook?
The current Whisky requirements specify Apple Silicon, and the official Yandere Simulator macOS guide describes its Whisky/Game Porting Toolkit workflow for Apple Silicon rather than Intel. That does not prove that every possible compatibility method fails on every Intel Mac, but it does mean you should not present Whisky as the normal Intel solution.
If an Intel Mac is your only option, investigate a compatibility layer that explicitly supports your macOS and hardware, or use a Windows PC or Windows installation. A Windows-based setup is usually the better choice when reliability matters more than avoiding Windows.

For an Apple Silicon Mac on Sonoma 14 or later, try Whisky first if you accept its maintenance risk. If it fails, CrossOver is worth testing during its trial, but its limited compatibility rating matters. If you need dependable access to every feature and update, use Windows instead.

- Calling Yandere Simulator a native Mac game.
- Calling Whisky an official Yandere Simulator application.
- Assuming every MacBook or every M-series model will work identically.
- Following a 2024 tutorial without checking current maintenance and compatibility status.

Why might the ZIP method work when the launcher does not?
The ZIP contains the game files directly, while the launcher must download them through its own network and compatibility-layer environment. The ZIP also avoids some launcher-specific path and download problems.
Do I need Windows?
Not necessarily for a first attempt on a compatible Apple Silicon Mac. You do need Windows, however, if wrappers remain unreliable and you want the strongest compatibility baseline.
Will mods work?
Base-game compatibility does not establish mod compatibility. Test the unmodified game first, keep a backup, and treat every mod as a separate version-specific risk.
Can a future update break this setup?
Yes. Whisky is no longer actively maintained, and either a macOS update or Yandere Simulator update can introduce a new incompatibility.
Is the mobile App Store version the official PC game?
