To reduce glasses glare on stream, watch your camera preview and move the key light off the camera’s direct line, then adjust its height and downward angle until the reflection leaves the lenses. If the reflection persists, soften or bounce the light, and check your monitor as a separate source. The right setup depends on your camera, light, glasses, and posture, so make small changes and judge them in the preview.
Why lights and screens show up in glasses
Glare is a reflection reaching the camera from a light source or bright display reflected in your lenses. A light placed close to the camera can reflect toward the camera; changing the relative positions of the light, camera, and wearer can redirect that reflection. There is no single placement that works for every desk and pair of glasses.
A ring light can cause visible glare when its reflection falls within the camera’s view through the lenses. It is not automatically a problem: what matters is whether the reflection appears in your actual camera preview. Check each lens rather than relying on how the setup looks to you in the room.
Adjust your lighting in the camera preview
- Set your normal streaming position. Turn on the camera preview, sit as you will on stream, and look toward the lens. Check both lenses for reflections.
- Move the key light to one side. Shift it away from the camera’s direct axis, watching the preview as you move it. Small changes can redirect the reflection without requiring new equipment.
- Adjust height and aim. Raise or lower the light, then angle it downward in small increments. Stop when the reflection moves out of the lenses while your face remains adequately lit.
- Check the whole face. If moving the key light leaves harsh shadows or uneven lighting, rebalance with your existing fill light if you have one. Keep checking the preview rather than optimizing only for the reflection.
- Change one thing at a time. That makes it easier to tell which adjustment helped. Recheck after changing your posture, camera position, or lighting.
If moving the light is not enough
Diffuse the source
A diffused source spreads the light rather than presenting a small, direct source to the lenses. This can make a sharp reflection less noticeable while keeping your face illuminated. A diffuser, softbox, or diffused LED panel is an optional purchase; try repositioning what you already own first.

Bounce the light
Instead of aiming the light directly at yourself, bounce it off a nearby pale wall or reflector. The reflected light can soften the look on your face. Check for new shadows and adjust your fill light if needed.
Inspect screens and other bright sources
Your monitor may be a separate cause of glare, even after the key light is repositioned. Look at the preview while changing the screen’s angle or brightness. Check secondary displays and other bright sources separately so you can identify which one is reflected.

Consider anti-reflective coating when replacing lenses
Anti-reflective coating may help reduce reflections, but it does not guarantee that studio lights will disappear from your glasses. If you are buying new prescription lenses, ask your optician about it as one possible aid rather than treating it as a guaranteed fix.
Choose the least disruptive fix
| Option | Cost and setup change | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Reposition existing light | Usually no new gear; requires moving the light and checking the preview. | Whether the reflection leaves both lenses without making facial lighting uneven. |
| Diffuse or bounce light | May use existing materials or require a diffuser, softbox, or reflector. | Whether softer light reduces the visible reflection and still gives the face enough light. |
| Adjust screen or camera geometry | May require changing the monitor angle or camera position. | Whether the screen remains usable and the reflection stays out of the preview. |
| Anti-reflective lens coating | Consider when replacing prescription lenses. | It may reduce reflections, but does not eliminate every possible light reflection. |
There is no established universally optimal angle or distance for a streaming light, and no specific brand or model is required. Use the preview to decide whether a change works for your setup.
