Keep the Institute researching, build only toward the next meaningful unlock, gather for a named upcoming cost, use alliance help, and time major completions against the event board shown in your current client. These habits improve efficiency without promising a fixed base level, a guaranteed competitive position, or parity with spenders.
The official Google Play listing describes the game as combining city construction, facility upgrades, research and development, survivor and warrior training, hero recruitment, and alliance warfare. It was marked updated on September 9, 2026, and lists Android and Windows availability. Menus, rewards, requirements, and event rules can change, so treat the numbers and labels displayed in your game as authoritative.

What “faster” means for a free-to-play account
Progress is more than increasing your headquarters (HQ) level. A useful upgrade should open the next HQ requirement, improve a bottleneck such as construction or research, strengthen the marches you actually use, or produce an event reward without delaying a more important prerequisite. An action that merely makes a timer disappear can leave the account poorer and no closer to its next unlock.
No reliable public statistic establishes an average free-to-play time to reach a particular HQ level, a universal resource-per-hour rate, or a percentage advantage from any one strategy. The practical target is therefore more valuable progress per action and per speed-up, not a promised schedule.

The core loop: choose, prepare, complete
- Choose the next useful unlock. Open the HQ or system you want and inspect the requirements currently shown by the game. Write down the building, research, troop, resource, and time gates rather than upgrading every available structure.
- Prepare the bottleneck. Start the research that supports the next construction or your chosen play style. Send marches for the resources that upgrade actually consumes. Queue training or hero work only when it serves the same near-term objective.
- Complete at the best moment. Check the live event board before using speed-ups or collecting a finished queue. If the completion can score a displayed event objective without missing a more important deadline, one action can advance the account and earn an additional reward.
Repeat this loop whenever you log in. The order matters: deciding the destination first prevents resource, stamina, and speed-up waste.
Keep the Institute researching
What the Institute does
A community Institute page states that the Institute becomes available at Base Level 4 and that upgrading it can improve research speed. This is community documentation rather than an official guarantee; confirm the unlock and every displayed bonus in your client. The important habit is to avoid an idle research queue once the building is available.
How to select research
There is no verified, universally optimal research order for every server, base level, or hero roster. Use the tooltip for each node and score it against your next decision:
Recommended Free Tools
- Near-term unlock: Does it satisfy or open a requirement for your next HQ, facility, troop, or system step?
- Time saved: Does its bonus directly shorten construction, research, training, or gathering that you will perform repeatedly?
- Resource flow: Will the improvement help produce or collect the resource currently blocking your plan?
- Play-style fit: Does it support combat, gathering, development, or another role your account actually uses?
- Opportunity cost: Will its cost postpone a prerequisite with a larger immediate payoff?
When two nodes are close, prefer the one that affects an action you can start immediately. A small bonus applied many times can beat a larger bonus that remains unused, but the game’s current tooltip—not an old tier list—must supply the numbers.
A safe research queue
- Open the Institute and note the current research time, resource cost, and displayed effect.
- Compare the node with the next HQ or facility requirement and with the resource you expect to lack.
- Start the highest-value eligible node before leaving the game, even if you have only a short session.
- Recheck the queue after claiming rewards or changing alliances, because new prerequisites and bonuses can alter the best choice.
Build toward prerequisites instead of upgrading everything
Use the requirement chain
Community beginner guidance warns that some buildings are primarily prerequisites. That does not make them useless; it means their value is the unlock they enable, not necessarily their standalone production. Select a target such as the next HQ level, then follow the requirements the current game displays. Requirements vary with version and account state, so do not copy a fixed build order from an old guide.
| Decision question | What to check in the current client | Good reason to proceed |
|---|---|---|
| Does this building unlock the next step? | HQ, facility, troop, or system requirement shown on the target screen | It removes a gate you would otherwise hit later |
| Does it improve a bottleneck? | Displayed production, capacity, speed, or training effect | The bonus applies to an action you will repeat soon |
| Can the account afford it? | Resource cost, queue time, and resources reserved for higher-priority prerequisites | It does not strand the next required upgrade |
| Can it score an event objective? | Current event board and its qualifying action | The same completion advances the account and earns a listed reward |
When an upgrade should wait
Delay an available upgrade if it consumes the exact resource needed for a nearer HQ gate, leaves the Institute idle, or would force you to spend a rare speed-up for no meaningful unlock. “Available” is not the same as “efficient.” Keep a written next-step list so a reward chest or sudden surplus does not change your plan impulsively.
Join an active alliance that fits your server
Why alliance activity affects speed
Community alliance documentation describes technologies and help functions connected with construction, research, gathering, and assistance. One of the pages is marked as in progress, so treat its bonus table as unverified and use the values shown in your alliance interface. Regular help can reduce waiting, while alliance technology can improve repeated account actions.

How to evaluate an alliance
- Recent activity: Members should be present on your server, not merely listed in a large but inactive roster.
- Help response: Check whether construction and research requests receive timely assistance.
- Technology participation: Inspect which technologies are being funded and whether the contribution rules are clear.
- Event participation: Ask whether the group coordinates the current server events and state-versus-state activities.
- Expectations: Choose requirements—chat, schedules, combat participation, or donations—you can actually meet.
Use alliance systems every session
- Request help immediately after starting a construction, research, or other eligible queue.
- Answer other members’ help requests when the interface allows it; a responsive alliance benefits from reciprocal activity.
- Contribute to alliance technology only after reserving resources for your next critical personal prerequisite.
- Read alliance announcements before committing marches or speed-ups to a coordinated event.
Make gathering serve a specific bill
Send available marches toward the resource your next planned research or construction actually requires. A full march returning with the wrong resource can still be useful, but it may not shorten the next gate. Before dispatching, compare the target cost with your inventory, production, and the travel time shown by the game.
- Reserve enough capacity for the next prerequisite rather than spending every surplus on optional upgrades.
- Prefer gathering bonuses that affect the march you are using and verify their current values in tooltips.
- Collect returns when you can immediately start the planned action, unless the event board rewards a different completion time.
- Recalculate after an upgrade, alliance change, or reward because production and capacity may have changed.
Older event guidance recommends coordinating gathering returns with event scoring. That principle remains useful, but the historical guide is about 7.7 years old; its weekday mapping and exact bonuses should not be treated as current.
Use the live event board, not an old calendar
Why timing matters
Construction completions, research finishes, gathering returns, and hero development may qualify for different event objectives. Finishing an action during a qualifying window can earn rewards for work you needed to do anyway. Conversely, holding an action can be wasteful if it delays a valuable unlock or causes a queue to sit idle.
A pre-speed-up check
- Open the current event board and identify the event, phase, objective, and end time.
- Read the scoring text for the exact action. Do not assume that every construction, research node, or hero activity qualifies.
- Check whether the queue will finish inside the scoring window and whether claiming, starting, or completing is the event trigger.
- Compare the listed reward with the value of the speed-up and the resource cost of the underlying action.
- Use the speed-up only when it completes a useful unlock or reaches a reward you have deliberately chosen.
A Steam Community State versus State guide from roughly 7.7 years ago discusses coordinating event days, gathering, construction, research, and hero development. It is historical context, not a current schedule. The client’s board takes precedence over any weekday chart copied from that guide.

Suppose a research queue is required for your next progression step and a current event rewards research completion. Starting it now and finishing it in the event window may serve both goals. Do not start a lower-value research node merely because an event exists; event points are useful only when the underlying action advances your account.
Speed-ups and rare items: a decision framework
Use a speed-up for value, not impatience
The sources do not establish a universal “best” speed-up threshold. Decide from the action’s result:
- High value: It opens the next HQ or system step, unlocks a repeatedly used capability, or completes a clearly worthwhile event objective.
- Medium value: It frees a queue that would otherwise sit idle and the next action is ready to start.
- Low value: It only removes a short timer while resources, prerequisites, or research planning remain unfinished.
Keep the speed-up decision attached to the specific completion. “I have enough speed-ups” is not a reason; “this completion removes the next gate and earns the displayed milestone” is.

Protect your decision flexibility
Do not consume a rare item merely to clear inventory space or follow an old checklist. Read its current description, note what it can accelerate, and reserve it for a bottleneck you can identify. If an item’s effect or eligibility is unclear, the in-game description is safer than community advice written for another version.
Free activity loops: zombies, recruitment, and routine rewards
Zombie activities
Community tips describe zombie activities as a possible source of rewards. Reward tables can change, so open the activity panel and confirm the current stamina cost, limits, and displayed drops before committing. Choose targets whose rewards support your next resource, hero, or development need; do not assume every zombie action has the same efficiency.
Free recruitment
A community beginner guide discusses free recruitment attempts and hero development, but its exact number of daily attempts is not reliable for every current version. Claim the free opportunities the client explicitly shows, read their reset timer, and spend resulting hero materials on the roster you actually use. Avoid building a universal hero tier list from an old guide: server age, available heroes, duplicates, and your chosen formation all change the decision.
Offline planning
Community tips also suggest starting a useful construction before going offline. Apply that idea only after checking the finish time, alliance-help availability, and your next login window. An overnight queue should be long enough to avoid idle time but not so long that it blocks a prerequisite you could have started first.
A practical session checklist
At login
- Inspect HQ and facility requirements for the next chosen unlock.
- Collect completed queues only after checking whether the event board rewards a particular completion timing.
- Start or renew Institute research.
- Request alliance help and answer available requests.
- Send marches for the resource named in your next planned bill.
- Review eligible zombie activities and free recruitment opportunities.
Before logging out
- Ensure construction and research queues are running.
- Start a training or hero action only when its cost and duration fit the next objective.
- Set gathering marches toward a resource you will need, not merely the nearest node.
- Check the next event phase before deciding whether to hold or accelerate a completion.
- Record the next prerequisite so the next session begins with a decision rather than idle browsing.
How to compare competing upgrades
When several actions are affordable, score each one on the same five axes:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
| Axis | Question | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock value | Does it open the next HQ, troop, facility, or system step? | Usually outranks a detached convenience upgrade |
| Time saved | What construction, research, gathering, or training bonus does the tooltip show? | Prefer effects you will use repeatedly soon |
| Resource opportunity cost | Which more important prerequisite loses those resources? | Delay optional spending when it blocks a nearer gate |
| Event fit | Can the completion earn a currently displayed reward? | Time it only when the event objective is real and worthwhile |
| Alliance fit | Will alliance help or technology improve the action? | Coordinate when the alliance’s current bonuses apply |
Apply the framework to your account’s age, base level, hero roster, and server environment. A recommendation that is efficient on a new server can be wrong for an established account with different requirements.

Fix: Read the live event board every time you plan a speed-up, collection, or gathering return.
Upgrading every available building
Problem: Resources are spread across structures that do not remove the next gate.
Fix: Follow the requirements displayed for one chosen progression target and postpone unrelated upgrades.
Letting the Institute sit idle
Problem: Research time is lost while construction continues.
Fix: Start a supportable node before leaving and reassess its value when the queue ends.
Joining an inactive alliance
Problem: You miss help, technology activity, and coordinated events.
Fix: Evaluate response times, technology participation, and server activity; move if the alliance’s expectations or activity do not fit.

Spending speed-ups on arbitrary timers
Problem: Rare acceleration is gone, but the account still lacks a prerequisite or useful event target.
Fix: Spend only for a meaningful unlock, a ready next queue, or a clearly displayed reward.
Assuming free-to-play parity
Problem: Efficiency advice is mistaken for a guarantee of catching spenders.

What changes with account and server context
New and established servers can differ in population, alliance strength, event activity, available heroes, and the practical value of combat versus development research. Base level also changes which nodes and facilities are eligible. Use the current requirements and tooltips for your account instead of importing advice from another server state.
Your formation matters as well. Without a verified current hero tier list, the defensible approach is to invest in heroes that are available to you, fit the marches you can field, and support the activities you perform. A nominally strong hero who lacks required skills, duplicates, or compatible troops may provide less immediate value than a developed roster you can deploy now.
A repeatable free-to-play progression plan
Every session
- Choose one next unlock from the current HQ or system requirements.
- Start Institute research that supports that unlock or your active bottleneck.
- Request and provide alliance help.
- Gather the resources named in the planned cost.
- Run eligible activities whose displayed rewards serve the same plan.
- Check the event board before collecting or accelerating anything significant.
Every event decision
- Identify the exact qualifying action and deadline.
- Confirm that your underlying construction, research, gathering, or hero work is worthwhile without the event.
- Calculate the opportunity cost in resources, queue time, and speed-ups.
- Complete during the event only if the timing does not delay a more valuable gate.
Every alliance decision
- Verify current help and technology activity on your server.
- Match the alliance’s participation expectations to the time you can give.
- Coordinate major completions with group events when the in-game objectives support it.
What the evidence does—and does not—support
The official store description confirms the game’s construction, research, training, hero, and alliance systems. Community documentation supports checking the Institute from Base Level 4 onward, using alliance help and technologies, planning around prerequisites, and looking for rewards from activities such as zombies and free recruitment. Those community mechanics should be verified in-game, especially where a page is marked in progress or has uncertain currency.
None of the available sources establishes a guaranteed HQ timeline, a universal research order, a fixed daily free-recruitment count, a percentage bonus that applies to every account, or a promise that a free-to-play player will catch spenders. A good plan is therefore adaptive: use the live client for requirements, costs, bonuses, rewards, and event timing, then apply the priority framework above.
