Her safety sustains the inn’s ward; if she falls, the protection ends and the residents face the shadow curse.
How to protect Isobel from Marcus
Speaking with Isobel at Last Light Inn triggers the Resolve the Abduction quest. Marcus, a Flaming Fist infiltrator serving the Absolute, reveals that he intends to take her to Moonrise Towers. Choose to oppose him and fight to defend Isobel.
- Speak with Isobel at Last Light Inn. This begins the abduction encounter.
- Reject Marcus’s plan. Do not help him capture Isobel.
- Defeat Marcus and the winged ghouls. Keep Isobel alive through the fight so she can continue sustaining the ward.
The encounter can turn quickly if Isobel is overwhelmed. Focus on stopping enemies from defeating or carrying her away; the goal is not simply to win the fight, but to have Isobel survive it.
What happens if Isobel survives
If Isobel remains safe after Marcus and the winged ghouls are defeated, the ward protecting Last Light Inn remains in place. The Harpers and other residents are not exposed to the consequences of losing that protection. If Jaheira also survives, she continues operating from the inn and can support the assault on Moonrise Towers.

What happens if Isobel is taken or defeated
If Isobel is defeated, she is abducted and the ward falters. The remaining residents are then exposed to shadow-cursed threats, and the party must deal with the fallout at the inn. Jaheira’s later course depends on whether she survives; if she does, she may leave to seek support in Baldur’s Gate. Subsequent events vary with the story state and the characters’ survival.
Can you side with Marcus?
Yes. Helping Marcus is a deliberate alternative branch, but it is not a way to save Last Light Inn. You fight Isobel and the Harpers; once Isobel is defeated, the ward falters. The quest journal and later story consequences differ depending on whether you oppose Marcus or aid his capture plan.

Does protecting Isobel guarantee Jaheira survives?
No. Keeping Isobel safe preserves the ward, but Jaheira’s survival still depends on what happens during the encounter and your other choices. If Isobel survives and Jaheira does too, Jaheira remains at the inn and supports the Moonrise assault.
