PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo record locally in Streamlabs Desktop, choose a save location in Settings > Output, check your capture sources and audio, then press the red Record button at the bottom right of the editor. Press it again to stop; Streamlabs says a notice confirms the recording was saved. [Streamlabs Support]
Set where Streamlabs saves the recording
- Open Settings and choose Output.
- In the Recording section, check the save path. Choose a folder your account can write to and that has enough free space.
- Review the filename behavior, recording quality and format options available there. Streamlabs notes these controls in its setup guidance; exact options can vary with software version and configuration. [Streamlabs Support]
Before a long capture, make a short test recording and open the resulting file from the selected folder. This checks both the path and whether the intended picture and sound are being captured.
Check the scene and audio you want to capture
Set up the game, screen or other scene sources in the editor before recording. If you want narration, check the microphone level in the audio mixer. Streamlabs says a connected microphone may appear there; to use another device, select it in audio settings. A separate microphone is optional, not a requirement for recording video. [Streamlabs Support]
Listen to a brief test for game or desktop audio and voice before recording a full session. If you intend to edit the voice separately later, use the multitrack setup below rather than relying on a single mixed track.

Start and stop the recording
- With the desired scene and audio sources ready, press the red Record button in the bottom-right corner of the main editor window.
- When finished, press Record again to stop.
- Look for Streamlabs’ confirmation notice that the recording was saved. The notice may offer more information or an option to open it in another Streamlabs application. [Streamlabs Support]
Choose resolution, frame rate and encoder for your PC
Higher output resolution and frame rate can preserve more detail and smoother motion, but they also demand more from the computer. Streamlabs recommends matching the base canvas to the monitor for gameplay, using a high output resolution when the system can handle it, and lowering output resolution if performance suffers. Its guidance suggests 60 FPS for action-heavy gameplay and says 30 FPS may suit more static content; treat those as starting points, not universal requirements or guaranteed results. [Streamlabs]
Streamlabs distinguishes x264, which encodes using the CPU, from NVENC, which uses a supported NVIDIA GPU; its guide recommends NVENC for users with an NVIDIA graphics card. It recommends CQP for the recording workflow it describes, or CRF when using x264, and advises adjusting quality if performance suffers. Available encoder names and controls depend on the hardware and software version. [Streamlabs Support] [Streamlabs]

Record microphone and game audio on separate tracks
Separate tracks let an editor adjust narration and desktop or game sound independently. Streamlabs documents recording up to six audio tracks; the feature requires assigning sources to tracks rather than simply enabling recording. [Streamlabs]
- Open Settings > Output and change the output mode from Simple to Advanced.
- Open Recording and select the number of audio tracks to record.
- Open the advanced audio mixer and assign each source—such as microphone and desktop audio—to the tracks you want.
- Choose MP4 or MKV for the multitrack recording. Streamlabs says its default FLV format does not support multiple audio tracks.
Streamlabs says one audio track is sent to a live stream. If you record and stream at the same time, verify that the stream track includes every sound intended for viewers. [Streamlabs]

Fix a recording that did not appear
Streamlabs’ troubleshooting article suggests these checks. They are support suggestions, not guaranteed fixes. [Streamlabs]
- Check free disk space. A full drive can prevent a recording from being saved.
- Check the save path and permissions. Confirm the folder exists and your account can write there; try another permitted location if needed.
- If Streamlabs shows an error, its support article suggests checking the graphics driver and installing or reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017.
- If recording and streaming together causes an error, try a recording encoder different from the stream encoder. Streamlabs also mentions “Same as Stream” quality as a possible setting.
- If no file appears and there is no error, Streamlabs suggests reinstalling current graphics drivers.
After a change, make a short test and confirm that a playable file appears in the configured folder before starting another long recording.
