After activation, check that account’s Library. If the game is missing, first check that you are using the right account, then clear Library filters and look in Hidden Games.
Redeem a game key in the Steam client
- Open the Steam client and sign in to the account where you want the game added.
- Open the Games menu.
- Select Activate a Product on Steam….
- Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the key and complete activation.
Steam also supports registering a product key through a browser. Its instructions do not establish a current browser URL, so use Steam’s official product activation help page rather than relying on an unverified link. The menu labels above are from Steam’s English instructions and may differ in another language or client version.

Check the account’s Library
With the same account still signed in, open Library and look for the game. If it is not visible, follow these checks in order.
Make sure you used the right account
Steam says games that were previously activated but have disappeared are most likely being viewed from the wrong account. If you have more than one account, sign into the one used during activation. Steam’s Help site can help find accounts associated with an email address or phone number and recover access. See Steam’s missing-games guidance.

Clear filters and check Hidden Games
If only some titles are missing, check the Library filters and make sure all games are set to display. Also check View > Hidden Games. To restore a hidden title, right-click it, choose Manage > Remove from Hidden. These checks are documented in Steam Support’s missing-library instructions.
Use purchase history only for a Steam purchase
If you bought the game directly through Steam, check the receipt and purchase history. No receipt can mean the transaction is still pending. If Steam shows the purchase as complete but the title is absent, Steam recommends logging out of the client and back in. This check applies to Steam purchases; it does not verify a key purchased from another seller. Steam’s guidance covers this distinction.

Understand “Pre-Load Complete”
Pre-Load Complete means the game’s files are installed on the computer, but the account does not own the game or no longer has access through Family Sharing. A different Steam account may explain why the installed game is not available to the account you are checking. This status is not confirmation that a key was redeemed. See Steam Support’s explanation.
A non-Steam Library shortcut is not an activated key
Adding a non-Steam game to your Library creates a shortcut to launch it; it does not establish that Steam owns the game, and Steam will not provide that game’s updates through the shortcut. A shortcut therefore cannot confirm successful key redemption. Steam explains the limits of non-Steam Library entries.

Retail keys and Steam-issued keys are different
A retail or digital product key is activated through Games > Activate a Product on Steam… to add a game to the account. A Steam-issued activation key is a separate key that some games provide after purchase or registration for use with a third-party client or service. It may be available in the Library by right-clicking the game and choosing Manage > CD keys. If that key fails on an external registration service, contact the game’s developer or publisher; Steam says it cannot resolve third-party registration issues.
