To reduce the space Genshin Impact uses, remove voice-over language packs you do not use. On mobile, you can also remove downloaded resources for completed quests, according to a community guide. These steps can reduce the game’s installed files; deleting other files or adding a drive only changes how much storage your device has available.
Remove unused voice-over language packs
HoYoverse officially supports removing installed voice packs. On a phone, its help page gives this path: Phone Settings > Language > Settings > Voice > Voice Pack Resource Management. The exact labels or route may differ by platform, so check the current in-game settings if you do not see these options. HoYoverse’s voice-pack instructions recommend using Wi-Fi when downloading large files.
Choose the language packs you do not need and remove them. A selected voice pack may download automatically for new content, so removing it does not prevent it from returning if it remains selected.
On mobile, remove past-quest resources
A November 2024 HoYoLAB community guide describes another option for mobile: Settings > Resources > Past Quest Resource Management > Past Quest Resources > Uninstall. Check the current in-game interface, since this is community guidance rather than an official help-page procedure. The guide says removed resources can be added back from the same screen.

The reviewed guide documents this option for mobile; it does not establish that the same cleanup feature is available on PC or consoles. Neither option has a verified, guaranteed amount of storage savings: the space recovered depends on the resources installed on your device.
Know what the storage figures mean
HoYoverse’s system-requirements article, updated November 11, 2025, lists the following amounts of available storage. These figures are not exact measurements of the installed game’s size, and HoYoverse warns that requirements may increase with future updates.

These are the available-space figures in HoYoverse’s system requirements. The free space an update needs can differ from the space the installed game occupies.

First check how much free space is available on the drive or device where the game is installed. For the specific PC insufficient-disk-space update error covered by its FAQ, HoYoverse advises ensuring enough free space and recommends deleting files if the remaining space does not exceed 30 GB before reopening the launcher. That older, error-specific guidance is not a universal minimum for every platform or update. See HoYoverse’s PC update-error guidance.

If the update still fails, HoYoverse’s update troubleshooting steps are to select Repair Now in HoYoPlay, restart, and reinstall from an official source if the problem persists. Reinstalling is a troubleshooting measure, not a guaranteed way to make the installed game smaller. HoYoverse update troubleshooting.

What will—and will not—make the game smaller
- Remove unused voice packs: an official way to remove installed resources; removed packs can return if selected again.
- Remove past-quest resources: described by a community guide for mobile; the resources can be added back, and availability on PC or consoles is not established here.
- Delete unrelated files or add a drive: increases available capacity on your device but does not reduce Genshin Impact’s installed files.
- Install PC games on an SSD: HoYoverse recommends an SSD for a smoother gaming experience, not to reduce the game’s storage footprint.
