How do I refund a PC game that won’t run?
Open the purchase record on the storefront that charged you and follow its refund route. If you bought a game key from a reseller or another third-party seller, request the refund from that seller. A game launching through Steam or Epic does not make those stores responsible for a payment they did not process. Steam counts online, offline, and shared-library playtime toward its two-hour threshold. Valve says approved refunds are generally issued within a week, to the original payment method where possible or to Steam Wallet if that method cannot be used.

Steam: request through Steam Support
Valve’s standard eligibility is a request within 14 days of purchase and less than two hours of playtime. Its examples include a PC that does not meet hardware requirements, buying by mistake, and simply not liking a game. As Valve puts it, “Maybe your PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn’t like it.” Submit through Steam Support’s refund page. If you are outside the standard window or playtime limit, Valve invites you to ask anyway; that means a request may be reviewed, not that it will be approved.
Epic Games Store: check the refund label
Epic’s policy applies to purchases made through Epic checkout. A PC or Mac product generally must be requested within 14 days of purchase, or within 14 days after release if pre-purchased, have less than two hours of runtime, and be marked “refundable” or “self-refundable.” For eligible self-refundable purchases, sign in to your Epic account, open Transactions, select the purchase, and choose Refund. GOG: contact support within 30 days for a technical problem
GOG describes its 30-day refund offer as a voluntary policy. If the game has a technical problem, contact GOG Support within that period and give support a chance to help. GOG says that if it cannot resolve the issue, it will offer a full refund. This is the stated support process for technical trouble, not an unconditional guarantee that every request based on dissatisfaction will be accepted.
Microsoft Store or Xbox PC: use the order record
For a game bought through Microsoft Store or Xbox on PC, start with the official Xbox refund page and check your Microsoft order history. The precise eligibility window and conditions are not stated here, so rely on the current instructions shown for your purchase rather than applying Steam’s or Epic’s rules.

Can I get a refund if I just don’t like the game?
It depends on the storefront and whether the purchase meets its conditions. Steam expressly lists disliking a game as a possible reason to request a refund, subject to its standard timing and playtime limits. Epic’s stated eligibility conditions still apply, including the refundable label. GOG’s published process gives a 30-day request window, but its technical-issue resolution language should not be read as a blanket promise to refund any game a customer dislikes.
What if I played for more than two hours?

Keep the explanation concise and factual. Include the details that let support identify the purchase and understand what went wrong:
- Order or transaction reference, purchase date, and game name.
- A short description of the failure or how the game differed from what you expected.
- The exact error text, if one appeared.
- Relevant PC information, such as your Windows version and graphics hardware.
- Troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

Are these refund rules legal rights?
