How to Request a PlayStation Store Game Refund

If you bought a PlayStation Store game by mistake, start a refund request through PlayStation’s refund support page and check the rules for the country linked to your account. PlayStation’s Ireland guidance says a game or add-on request generally must be made within 14 days of purchase, and the content must not have been downloaded or streamed. Faulty content is an exception to that restriction.

Check whether your game may qualify

Before submitting a request, check the purchase date, whether any download or stream has started, and whether the purchase is a game or a different type of content. The standard game and DLC criteria below come from PlayStation’s Ireland support page; they should not be treated as a universal policy for every account region.

Timing: PlayStation’s Ireland guidance says the refund request must be made within 14 days of purchase.
Download or streaming: The game or add-on must not have been downloaded or streamed. PlayStation’s UK cancellation policy likewise says games or add-ons whose download or stream has started are not eligible unless they are faulty.
Faulty content: PlayStation identifies faulty content as an exception. This does not guarantee a refund; submit the issue for PlayStation Support to assess.

Check whether a download or stream actually began, including any automatic activity, before assuming the purchase remains eligible. PlayStation’s warning about automatic downloads is specifically on its US pre-order guidance, so it should not be read as a separate general rule for every purchase.

Submit the refund request

Open PlayStation’s official refund support page. Use the page for the country associated with your PlayStation account, rather than assuming the Ireland page applies to you.
Follow the page’s eligibility check and request instructions for the purchase type. Have the purchase details available so you can identify the transaction.
If the self-service process does not resolve the issue, contact PlayStation Support through the support route linked from that page.

Different purchases have different refund rules

A game refund checklist does not automatically apply to in-game consumables, subscriptions, or pre-orders. PlayStation’s Ireland page sets out different conditions for these purchase types.

Purchase type	Relevant PlayStation guidance
Game or DLC	Ireland guidance: request within 14 days of purchase, and content not downloaded or streamed, with faulty content treated as an exception.
In-game consumable	Ireland guidance says the game must not have been launched after purchase. Consumables bought during gameplay may be delivered immediately, so this is not the same test as for a game download.
Subscription	Ireland guidance says the initial subscription payment request must be made within 14 days of signing up. Any refund may be reduced to account for use, and a free-trial period counts toward the 14 days.
Pre-order	PlayStation’s US pre-order page has separate timing rules: request before release, or within 14 days of purchase if the release date has passed, provided the main content has not started downloading or streaming.

Check the policy for your account’s region

Refund procedures and consumer rights can vary by country. The 14-day game and DLC criteria in this article are from PlayStation’s Ireland guidance; PlayStation’s UK policy supports the stated download/stream limitation, while its US page cited here concerns pre-orders only. Consult the PlayStation Store cancellation policy applicable to your account and check whether local law provides additional rights.
