You can remap a standard DualSense controller in the PS5’s Accessibility settings—no extra controller is needed. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Controllers > Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller, choose a button and its new function, then select Apply.

These instructions are from PlayStation’s accessibility guide. The page is in Spanish, so the menu names above are given in English; labels may differ depending on your PS5’s system language. For Sony’s general PS5 support and Accessibility entry point, see PlayStation 5 Support.
What to check in a particular game
Console-level reassignment changes the controller’s button functions, but Sony’s cited instructions do not establish how every game handles remapped inputs or whether its on-screen prompts will change. If you are adjusting controls for one game, also check that game’s own control settings and confirm its prompts match the inputs you assigned.

DualSense Edge: use a custom profile
Edge assignments are configured separately from standard DualSense assignments. Open Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > Custom Profiles, create or choose a profile, then select Customise Button Assignments. Choose a button and its function, and apply the change. Sony says choosing Disable leaves that button without input. See PlayStation’s controller support guide.

The controller has four industry-standard 3.5 mm expansion ports for compatible additional buttons, switches, and other devices.
