In Path of Exile 1, refund each allocated Ascendancy point from the passive skill tree. Each point costs five regular refund points. Once all Ascendancy points are refunded, visit the Altar of Ascendancy in a Labyrinth treasure room to choose a different Ascendancy class. These are Path of Exile 1 instructions; Path of Exile 2 uses a different process.

Refund Ascendancy points in Path of Exile 1

  1. Open the passive skill tree and refund the Ascendancy nodes you have allocated. The cited PoE Wiki reference lists the cost as five regular refund points per Ascendancy point: PoE Wiki: Ascendancy class.
  2. If you use the gold-based respec option described by that reference, budget gold at five times the regular refund-point cost. It does not state a fixed gold amount, so check the in-game cost rather than relying on a universal figure.
  3. After refunding every allocated Ascendancy point, go to the Altar of Ascendancy in a Labyrinth treasure room and select the new Ascendancy class.

Grinding Gear Games also stated that Bloodline points can be respecced with Orbs of Regret or gold “like normal ascendancy points (5 refund points each).” That statement appears in the Bloodline respec context of its Keepers of the Flame FAQ; it corroborates the cost but is not a separate step-by-step guide to every respec.

If an Ascendancy node will not refund

Check whether another allocated node depends on the node you are trying to remove. An older community support discussion describes dependencies preventing a starting-point node from being refunded: Path of Exile forum discussion. Treat that as troubleshooting context, not a current official rule; the available discussion is not enough to establish every reason a refund might be blocked.

Path of Exile 2 uses different respec steps

Do not use the Path of Exile 1 Labyrinth altar directions in Path of Exile 2. In the 0.2.0f patch notes, Grinding Gear Games says to refund Ascendancy points through Balbala or the Trialmaster; changing class requires zero allocated Ascendancy points and redoing a qualifying trial that grants the number of points already held. See the 0.2.0f patch notes for that dated rule set, and follow current in-game prompts because those 2025 notes may no longer describe the latest version.

Do not count on a permanent full-tree reset

Grinding Gear Games described a full passive-tree reset that also reset Ascendancy points in its 3.0.0 announcement. That reset was tied to the balance-change update; it is not evidence of an always-available reset option.
