In The Sims 4, community examples use traits.remove_trait TraitIdentifier to remove a trait. First open the cheat console, enter testingcheats true, then replace TraitIdentifier with the exact internal code for the trait you want to remove. This command is not listed in EA’s official cheat FAQ, so verify the identifier for your specific trait rather than assuming its visible name will work.
Remove a trait with the cheat console
- Open the console. On PC or Mac, press Ctrl+Shift+C. On PlayStation or Xbox, press all four shoulder buttons at once. EA documents these console-opening inputs in its The Sims 4 Cheats FAQ.
- Enable cheats. Type
testingcheats trueand press Enter. EA’s FAQ documents this general step for enabling cheats. - Enter the trait-removal command. Type
traits.remove_trait TraitIdentifier, substituting the target trait’s internal identifier forTraitIdentifier, then press Enter. For example, a community reply identifies the visible Noncommittal trait asCommitmentIssues; the resulting command would betraits.remove_trait CommitmentIssues. This is a community example, not an EA-verified complete list of identifiers. See the EA Forums example. - Check the Sim’s trait panel. Confirm that the intended trait is gone. If nothing changes, check the identifier’s spelling and whether the trait is a special or pack-specific one. The examples do not establish one identifier format that works for every trait.
Another EA Forums discussion uses electrocution as an example with traits.remove_trait, but that example likewise does not establish a complete catalogue. Use a code only when it has been checked for the particular trait you mean to remove.

What “reset” means: traits or a stuck Sim?
resetSim is for a stuck or unresponsive Sim, not a documented way to clear or change personality traits. EA’s reset instructions include resetSim Firstname Lastname for one Sim and resetSim * for all Sims. EA says a reset returns the Sim to a playable state, does not move them back to their home lot, leaves needs unchanged, and cancels wishes and moodlets.
If you want to edit traits through Create a Sim instead of removing one with a command, EA’s cheat FAQ lists cas.fulleditmode as opening the Sim character-creation menu. The FAQ does not give the full trait-editing workflow or promise that every trait can be changed there.

Console players: know the save consequence first
On PlayStation and Xbox, EA says cheats that require testingcheats true disable achievements and trophies for the current save. Other saves are not affected. The console can then be used in Live mode after entering the cheat code, according to EA’s cheat FAQ.
