You generally can’t reset Steam achievements with a setting in the Steam client. Whether you can clear achievements for one game depends on whether that game’s developer has implemented a reset feature. Valve documents a Steamworks function developers can use to reset a player’s stats and, optionally, achievements, but describes it as typically intended for development testing.
Can you reset achievements for one Steam game?
Sometimes, if the game provides a supported way to do it. The official Steam client documentation reviewed does not describe a general player-facing achievement reset control. Valve’s Steamworks documentation describes a developer API that works on the current user’s stats for the game calling it; it is not a universal command players can run in Steam.
Check the game’s own menus and official support information for a reset option. If none is available, contact the developer or publisher and ask whether it can reset achievements for your account. The official sources reviewed do not establish that Steam Support resets achievement records on request.
How Steamworks achievement resets work
Valve’s Stats and Achievements documentation describes ISteamUserStats::ResetAllStats(bool bAchievementsToo). A game can call it to reset the current user’s stats, and set bAchievementsToo to true to include that game’s achievements. Valve says the function “should typically only be used for testing purposes during development.”

This is an API for developers integrating Steamworks into a game, not a step for players to perform through Steam’s menus or a command line. The game must implement and expose a suitable reset path; having the API documented does not mean every game supports resetting achievements.
Valve’s ISteamUserStats API reference says the function automatically calls StoreStats to persist changes. The game should then call RequestCurrentStats to synchronize with Steam’s new default values. The API can report success only after RequestCurrentStats has successfully returned its callback. Those synchronization steps are handled by the game’s implementation, not by a player following a universal Steam procedure.

Why there is no account-wide reset button
Steamworks says there is no way to globally wipe stats and achievements for all users. A developer can build its own version-based reset mechanism for a particular game—for example, by changing a hardcoded stats version so that the game resets users’ data. That is a game-specific developer mechanism, not a control that clears every game’s achievements on a Steam account.

Do not treat save-file deletion or disabling Steam Cloud as an achievement-reset method. Steam Cloud stores files a game developer chooses, which may include saves, settings, profile stats, and other user-specific data. Valve’s Steam Cloud FAQ explains cloud storage and save recovery, but does not document deleting cloud files as a way to clear Steam achievements. Achievement resets are described separately through the Steamworks stats API.

Removing saves or changing sync settings can affect saved progress or create cloud conflicts without clearing the achievement record. If you mean resetting in-game save progress rather than Steam achievements, look up the game’s official save-reset instructions; the right process varies by game.

What to do if the game has no reset option
- Check the game’s settings, achievement or profile menus, and official support pages for a reset feature.
- If you cannot find one, contact the game’s developer or publisher and ask whether it supports an achievement reset for your account.
- Follow only instructions the developer confirms are supported. Do not delete saves or alter Steam Cloud files expecting that to reset achievements.
