If the box is wrong, reset it manually by cycling to the required shape, rotating that shape until it matches the wall cut-out, and confirming. On the controller layout used by the available walkthrough, L1/R1 change the configuration, the sticks rotate it, A confirms, and B exits the interaction. Exiting is not described as a progress reset.
Genesis Configuration appears in five mandatory story puzzles: Sunny’s Pillar, Hand Statue, Head Statue, Tongue Statue and Factory Shrine. Each has two sides to solve, and each location uses a different target arrangement. The reliable method is to treat the illuminated silhouette in the wall as the answer rather than trying to memorize one universal code.

What “reset” means for a Genesis Configuration puzzle
The word “reset” can mean two different actions here:
| Action | What you do | What the guides establish |
|---|---|---|
| Reconfigure and retry | Cycle the box to another shape, rotate it, then confirm when it matches the cut-out. | This is the documented way to correct a mismatch and continue. |
| Exit the interaction | Press B on the controller layout shown in the walkthrough. | B leaves the puzzle interface. The guide does not call this a reset or say that it clears progress. |
That distinction matters when a piece appears to be stuck. You do not need a special reset sequence, a reload, or a new save simply because the current orientation is wrong. Return your attention to the cut-out, choose the required overall shape, rotate it into alignment, and confirm again.

The control labels above come from a controller layout documented by the guide. The game is listed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2, so the physical buttons can differ by platform, input device or remapping. Use the in-game prompt that corresponds to the same four functions: change configuration, rotate, confirm and exit.
How the Genesis Configuration mechanic works
Every Genesis Configuration interaction presents two sides. A side is solved only when the box has both the correct shape and the correct orientation. Looking at the shape alone is not enough: a square, diamond or border can still be rotated incorrectly.
- Read the wall cut-out. The empty slot is the target silhouette. Identify the broad outline first, then note where openings, points and side pieces sit.
- Choose the overall configuration. Use L1 or R1, on the documented layout, to cycle through the available shapes. Stop when the box has the same general outline as the target.
- Rotate the selected shape. Move the sticks to turn the configuration. Compare the lit point, gaps and projecting pieces with the corresponding empty areas in the wall.
- Check both axes. A shape can look correct from one angle while its openings or central point are reversed. Continue rotating until every visible feature occupies the matching part of the silhouette.
- Confirm. Press A when the alignment is exact. A correct placement slots into the cut-out and advances the sequence.
- Repeat for the second side. The second side has its own target arrangement; it is not automatically solved by the first side.
If the confirmation does nothing, assume the shape or orientation is still wrong. Do not interpret the lack of progress as evidence that a hidden reset command is required.

Use this sequence whenever you have entered an incorrect configuration or lost track of the current position.
- Stop changing inputs for a moment. Let the current model settle on screen so you can compare it with the cut-out without rotating by accident.
- Identify the active side. The puzzle exposes two sides. Make sure you are matching the side currently presented rather than the arrangement you solved previously.
- Describe the target in plain language. For example, note “diamond,” “two openings facing inward,” “vertical pair,” “four corner blocks” or “border around a star.” This prevents you from chasing a remembered orientation from another location.
- Cycle shapes with L1/R1. Move through the configurations until the outer silhouette is the same family as the target. If the target has a central star, for instance, do not try to force a plain square into it.
- Rotate in small increments. Use the sticks to turn the selected configuration. Watch the bright point and every opening, not just the largest mass of the shape.
- Use the empty slot as the final test. The correct orientation should make the box appear ready to slide into the cut-out. If one edge, gap or point is mirrored, keep rotating.
- Press A once. A successful confirmation inserts the box and advances the puzzle. If nothing happens, return to step four rather than repeatedly pressing confirm.
- Leave only when necessary. Press B to exit the interaction if you need to reset your visual reference or move away. The available guide does not state that exiting erases a solved side or restores an initial state.
All five Genesis Configuration locations and target patterns
| Puzzle | Story access and location | Side one | Side two |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunny’s Pillar | During the “Free Sunny’s Soul” objective, at the far end of the labyrinth ruins. | Turn the square configuration so it reads as a diamond. | Make two parallel structures with their openings facing inward. |
| Hand Statue | After collecting the Hand Statue from Bruno’s House. | Place the two boulder-like forms vertically, one above the other. | Place them horizontally, one on the left and one on the right. |
| Head Statue | In the area opened by the Hand Statue, after picking up the Head Statue. | Use a square with the correct face upward. | Build a border around a star-shaped center, with the gaps turned toward the sides. |
| Tongue Statue | After completing the Well Puzzle and collecting the Tongue Statue piece. | Turn the square into a diamond. | Put one block in each of the four corners. |
| Factory Shrine | On the shrine inside the factory near the elevator to Marlowe and Bruno. | Repeat the square-to-diamond arrangement. | Use the border-like form around a star-shaped center, leaving the openings on the sides. |
These descriptions identify the intended pattern, but the actual on-screen silhouette remains the authority. Align the model to what the wall shows rather than assuming that two puzzles with a similar description share the same rotation.

Sunny’s Pillar solution
Sunny’s Pillar is encountered during the Free Sunny’s Soul objective, at the far end of the labyrinth ruins. This is the first location in the documented set to use the Genesis Configuration mechanic.
Side one: square to diamond
Cycle until the configuration is square, then rotate it so the square presents as a diamond. The important check is the point at the top and bottom of the target silhouette. Confirm only when those points and the side edges sit inside the corresponding opening.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Side two: inward-facing parallel structures
The second side is not another diamond. Select the configuration that produces two parallel structures and rotate it so their openings face one another. If the openings face outward, the pattern is mirrored; continue rotating before pressing A.
Hand Statue solution
The Hand Statue puzzle becomes available after you collect the Hand Statue from Bruno’s House. It uses a pair of heavy, boulder-like forms, so count the two masses and use their relative position as your orientation guide.
Side one: vertical pair
Arrange the two forms in a single vertical line, with one directly above the other. Check that the pair occupies the same vertical channel as the wall silhouette rather than merely appearing close to it in perspective.

Side two: horizontal pair
For the second side, rotate the pair ninety degrees so one form sits at the left and the other at the right. The target is horizontal spacing, not a diagonal arrangement. Confirm after both forms align with their separate recesses.

Head Statue solution
The Head Statue is found in the area opened by the Hand Statue. Because the second side has a central star and side openings, it is especially easy to mistake a nearly correct rotation for a solution.
Side one: square with the correct face upward
Select the square configuration and rotate it until the intended face is at the top. Do not rely on the square outline alone; the face direction is the orientation clue that distinguishes the correct position from the other rotations.
Side two: star-centered border
Use the configuration that forms a border around a star-shaped center. Rotate it so the gaps in the border point toward the left and right sides. If the openings point upward and downward, the configuration is turned a quarter rotation away from the target.
Tongue Statue solution
The Tongue Statue puzzle follows completion of the Well Puzzle and collection of the Tongue Statue piece. Its first side resembles Sunny’s Pillar, but its second side uses four separate corner blocks.

Side one: diamond presentation
Cycle to the square and rotate it into the diamond presentation shown by the wall. Verify the top and bottom points before confirming; a flat square will not fit even though it uses the same base configuration.
Side two: four corners
Choose the arrangement with one block in each corner. The correct target distributes the blocks around the perimeter rather than clustering them along one edge. Rotate until all four corners correspond to the four corner openings in the cut-out.

The final listed location is the shrine inside the factory, near the elevator to Marlowe and Bruno. It reuses two visual ideas from earlier puzzles, but it is still a separate interaction with its own two-sided sequence.
Side one: square to diamond
Use the square configuration and turn it until it appears as a diamond in the shrine’s cut-out. Compare the point locations with the wall before confirming.
Side two: star-centered border
Select the border-like configuration around a star-shaped center. Its open sections must face the sides, matching the pattern used for the Head Statue’s second side. If confirmation fails, inspect whether the openings are actually lateral or have been rotated to the top and bottom.

Why a correct-looking solution may not advance
The overall shape is right but the orientation is wrong
This is the most common interpretation problem. A square, diamond or star border can have several rotations. Recheck the lit point, every gap and the direction of the side pieces. The game expects the complete silhouette, not a rough resemblance.
You are solving the wrong side
Each Genesis Configuration has two sides. If you are applying the arrangement from side one to side two, cycle through the available shapes again and read the newly presented cut-out.
You are using a pattern from another location
The five puzzles do not share one universal code. Sunny’s Pillar, Hand Statue, Head Statue, Tongue Statue and Factory Shrine each have location-specific arrangements. Similar-looking square-to-diamond solutions do not make the other side identical.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe input labels do not match your controller
The documented layout names L1/R1, the sticks, A and B. On another platform or a remapped control scheme, find the commands that perform those functions in the on-screen prompts. A different button label does not change the puzzle logic.
You confirmed too early
Pressing the confirm button while one opening or point is misaligned will not force the piece into place. Rotate again and confirm only after the model visually matches the entire cut-out.
Story progression and when each puzzle becomes available
The guides identify five mandatory Genesis Configuration puzzles rather than optional collectibles. Their story gates provide a useful way to determine whether you are searching in the right place:
- Sunny’s Pillar appears during Free Sunny’s Soul in the labyrinth ruins.
- The Hand Statue puzzle follows acquisition of the Hand Statue from Bruno’s House.
- The Head Statue puzzle is in the area opened by the Hand Statue.
- The Tongue Statue puzzle follows the Well Puzzle and collection of the Tongue Statue piece.
- The Factory Shrine puzzle is inside the factory near the elevator to Marlowe and Bruno.
If a location is inaccessible, check the related story objective or statue acquisition before treating the configuration as broken. The documented solutions do not describe a separate command that unlocks a puzzle ahead of its story trigger.
Quick checklist before leaving a puzzle
- You read the currently displayed cut-out rather than relying on memory.
- You selected the required overall configuration with the change-shape control.
- You rotated the model until the lit point, openings and side pieces all lined up.
- You pressed the confirm control only after the complete silhouette matched.
- You solved both sides of the interaction.
- You used the exit control only to leave the interface, not as a presumed progress reset.
In short, “resetting” a Genesis Configuration puzzle means reconfiguring and rotating the box until it matches the wall, then confirming. The available walkthroughs document no dedicated reset button; use the five location-specific patterns and the silhouette itself to retry the correct arrangement.
